I guess this is where I would write about Jim Butcher? If not PK, you can scrape it up with a spatula and flip it to the right spot, lol! Yes, Jim and Harry have their own thread HERE, tsk! So have moved your comments M - PK

Good one Marilyn. I'd like to meet JB. I've got NightNurse's recommendation for the flight out.
Edit/ I read 'The Lincoln Lawyer ' by Michael Connolly and it was excellent. Thanks NN.

Although I don't read nearly as much as I used to ...it's more convenient to read magazines at work as i can put them down and pick them up agai without losing the plot , I have read a fair few since my last lot I love the Mark Billingham books featuring DI Thorne and his gay pathologist friend Hendricks ( who's Mancunian btw Ditto ;D), the books are humerous despite the sometimes gory storylines ;D I especially liked 'Sleepy Head' , the story of a girl left in what's known as Locked-In Syndrome after what the detectives think is a botched attempt at murdering her by some nutter applying pressure to a certain point in her neck to induce a coma . Turns out that said nutter has killed several other victims , and they were the botch jobs . We read the story from the victims POV as well as the detectives, as , even though she's paralysed and unresponsive , her brain is unaffected . Just finished his last book 'Buried' An ex coppers son is kidnapped and Thorne is seconded to the kidnap unit . this story doesn't just involve kidnap, because a seemingly unrelated racially motivated killing turns out to have a huge bearing on the case ..it gets even more interesting when the couple who kidnapped the boy are murdered .... I've always liked Lynda La Plante even though her writing isn't the best Her plots are excellent , and 'The Red Dahlia' is another goodie . It's about the murder of a young woman that has all the details of the infamous, grisly and still unsolved case of the Black Dahlia murders in the USA in the 40's Kathy Reichs and her 'Bones' books are still good value if you like the ins and outs of pathology Break No Bones was the last one I read ...can't remember the plot now though cos it's been a few weeks and a few books since I finished it ;D What else..... Oh yeah, Jeffrey Deavers The Cold Moon , another cracking Lincoln Rhyme novel Lee Childs 'The Hard Way' with the ever fabulous Jack Reacher once again solving problems for those lucky enough to find him ;D White Knight , natch.... ;D Last but not least ,Peter Robinsons ' Piece of my Heart ' ..another Yorkshire/ Derbyshire based detective series . This one takes place in two eras ..the late 1960s and present day , and a murder that spans both starting with the murder of a flower child at a rock festival then and how it leads to the murder of a music journalist in the present day ..cracking story , one of his best ;D

Which is why I'm posting....it was so to see the USA today column in the paper today....'what people are reading' and Jim Butcher's latest 'Small Favor' is third! Yeah, JB! ;D

You can say that again hon ;D So, what have I read since last time ...mostly the same old psycho killer thrillers I love John Connolly 'The Unquiet' ...JC is one of my very favourite authors , he writes beautifully even though his subjects are mostly to do with death and destruction ;D Michael Marshal 'The Intruders ' , another fave for his writing style James Patterson '6th Target' ...another of his short chapter page turners ;D A new author to me Chelsea Cain and 'Heartsick ' ...forgot what the plot was cos I'm always looking to the next book , but I remember enjoying it Bit of a departure with Piers Morgan's autobiographical thing ,quite enjoyed it surprisingly Karin Slaughter 'Skin Privilege' ...I was distraught at the ending ! Paul Johnson 'The Death Code ' ..another new author to me , and again can't remember the gist of it because this was further up the list , and others made more of an impression ...obviously ;D Just started 'Small Favour ' and I'm ekeing it out ...which is hard when you practically inhale novels , but I want to savour it ;D

I enjoyed the Piers Morgan autobiog too - also suprisingly. I've always thought of him as a smug annoying little shit ;D, but he was pretty self-depreciating, which made it funny. Being that books is my job, I read a huge amount - often several books at the same time. I had 3 new ones for L A - the new Lee Child (I love Jack Reacher!) Remember Me by Sophie Kinsella and Jill Mansell's An offer You Can't Refuse. I re-read a lot too - re-reading one called Simply Heaven at the moment by Sheila Mackesey - very very good! I love it. I'm always picking up books at work and reading bits - one of the few jobs where no one minds if you read on duty!! ;D

YAY! Another Jack Reacher fan ...they so need to film those books ;D I imagine finding a 6 foot 5 inch built like a brick sh...outhouse actor who can actually act in the miniature world of Hollyweird film stars might prove a tad difficult though ;D
I'm like you rosie , usually have several on the go at once ...it's no wonder I forget the plots !

Hey! I ordered the Small Favor on cds...read by James, of course, but I'm going to get the book too, eventually. I just couldn't resist hearing JM and enjoying the storylines of JB. ;D I read two or three books at a time, too, usually in different genres cos that's the way it usually works out....I'm wading thru 'the Ruins' which just came out at the movies, but for me, it's slow going....very slow plot development, but I'm determined to get it done, lol! And rereading (yep, I like to do that, too, Rosie!) Tanya Huff's Blood Series....and don't laugh....Amanda Quick, who writes English romance/mystery books that I love.... Reminds me of the old days when I used to devour Georgette Hyer....love those times and lovely English heroines!

oH YEAH NN - my deputy manager and me at work have been discussing for YEARS who could play Jack Reacher. (she introduced me to him) Think they would have to find an unknown to do him justice. the only well known actor we think could pull it off would be Tommy Lee Jones, but he's too old now. We haver been converting people at the library as well - whilst Ive been manager there we have gone through 3 sets of his books cos they get read so much, they fall apart and I have to order new ones!! ;D ;D Incidently - ive been looking at Jim Butcher (cos of James!) just requested the first one (in book form to try out - think I might have to get the CDs tho- just to listen to James ' voice...

I'm going to try and finish Small Favor tonight M ...I can't be arsed to lug it about all next week, but neither can I bear to leave it alone for a fortnight ;D Hmm. Tommy Lee Jones as Reacher ...too old , and way too short LOL , but the acting would have been good ;D Brendon Routh who played Superman is the right size ...unfortunately he can't act his way out of a paper bag The only other bloke I can think of who is the right height is Jared Padalecki from Supernatural , but he's too young ..pretty though ;D I always thought Clint Eastwood in his younger years would have been perfect

Ive discovered (thanks to colleague at work) the Black Dagger Brotherhood books by J R Ward - sexy vampires!! Does have a tendency to take itself all a bit seriously at times, but its a good fun read - well written, tight plotlines and pretty hot! Can get a tad M & B ish, but the sex is down and dirty!)
The whole Vampire set up in her world is COMPLETELY different to Buffyverse, took some getting used to. Theres few other series around in the same vein I think I might try - but again - everyone has their own take on the vampire myth and mythology, so have to learn what each new authors is!

I read Stephen King's 'Cujo' again this week. I'm in a mood for rereading old faves at the mo and give Anita Shreve's a rest...

I love Anita Shreve though havn't read any lately. Have you read the ones set at Fortunes Rock Ditto? Just read The House at Riverton and The Forgotten Garden, both by Kate Morton . Sobbed and sobbed at end of both If you like social dramas about families spanning several decades and classes they are a good read. Very clever too as the author effortlessly slips backwards and forwards across the years and everyone is somehow related. Beautifully written and told stories

Just copied this over from BT Just finished reading Hollow Earth and I found it really enjoyable It's an ongoing plot so obviously much more to come but has some characters that I really want to get to know better. I found the children a bit annoying but that's because it's based at their age for main readership and I'm reading from an entirely different perspective The scenes from the Middle Ages blended well with the present and like most good fantasy stories provided themes to expand on. The book has a couple of maps to refer to which I love and gives a sense of scale. I'm looking forward to part two. Teebs I'm going to check those out - some interesting titles there
