To all fans of the band Ghost of the Robot,
After two great years of music making and touring I have decided to dissolve the band Ghost of the Robot. This was not an easy decision to make but one that was thought out thoroughly with consideration to you, the amazing fans and my amazing band mates. There are no bad feelings or creative differences that lead to this decision. I have always given 100% of myself to my craft and I felt that the band and the fans would suffer now that I will be devoting all my time to new film and television projects since “Buffy” and “Angel” are no longer in production. Please know how much I have appreciated everyone’s support of me and of the band. I hope that you will continue to support me in my future film and television projects. This decision will not affect me participating in or attending any conventions. I love the feedback I get from my fans and look forward the next time I see you.
All my best, James Marsters _______________________ www.jamesmarsters.com/home.html

I really wasn't expecting this to happen so fast, despite what James was saying at the Moonlight Rising con. At least I can say I saw them four times, and they made me feel young again So, does this mean no GOTR in Oz? Guess so And what about the new album? They had worked so hard on it already. ETA - JM's publicist says they will def not be playing Oakland con, so I guess MR was their last show... Oh dear, what a way to bow out!

poor Aaron thinks he has a job when he gets back... oops...Certainly they'll do reunion tours... *crosses fingers* That was awfully quick. And didn't James say he was going to try to juggle it with his other projects like he did before?

No, he'd changed his tack when talking at MR con, hadn't he? He was saying how he couldn't cut it as a singer for one. But more importantly dropped hints about not having time for the band with the Macbeth project and other work coming up. We were still hoping he could squeeze the band in as well, of course.
But it was not to be....

How's James gonna let loose all that Tigger energy he's got? Poor guy will probably go back to smoking because of stress.

Er, I don't think he ever did completely quit.... He'll have to cut back on the Red Bull to calm himself down a little!

Oh, I think the Jossverse paid quite well in the end. He's not short of a dime or two. He said in a recent interview )paraphrasing) that he was comfortably off now and didn't have to grab the first job that came along. He could be picky. And with all that lovely funding for Macberth, I expect he has factored in his writer's etc fees. ;D And I don't think GOTR ever paid the bills; was the other way round at first! ETA - definite NO on the Aussie con as well now, so that really is all folks

After the MR Q&A I knew this was coming. But heehee I got to see them at their last gig ever! ;D Yup Oakland & Melbourne are officially cancelled & as far as I know, the album won't come out either but let's hope that isn't true. In James' defense, he always did say that the band came 2nd to his acting & other pursued career moves, & he does have other personal things that take his time too. It's more fair to the band that they can pursue other things than have a singer/member who's not focused on them. But I'm still sad to see them break up.

I really wasn't expecting this to happen so fast, despite what James was saying at the Moonlight Rising con. He doesn't do things halfway, does he? At least I can say I saw them four times, and they made me feel young again I feared this since I read the reports from MR but didn't really expect it that early. At least not before the upcoming gig in Australia. Poor Toy! And right now I'm not sure if I want to be sad about the news or mad at James. It's very rare for me to be actually furious but I really feel like throwing stuff to the wall while screaming at the top of my lungs right now. Which, unfortunately, I can't do. It's 5 AM here. What a way to start my day... Sorry, but in this pathetic little life of mine these concerts really meant a lot. Whereas conventions don't really do much for me. But after a GotR concert I usually felt like on an emotional sugar high for two weeks... And Wouldn't it at least be polite to say something about his band mates future projects here? Just saying... Sorry for the rant, PK. Feel free to delete or move to a more appropriate spot on the boards. /off to sulk now/

Oh what a sad day! I'll forever be grateful that I got to see GOTR and especially that I got to see the gig at The London Forum which was, to my mind an almost perfect show. I sort of wondered if this was coming but I wanted the band to finish the album and go out on one last farewell tour.... I guess the tour isn't gonna happen but oh how I want that album .. please guys... surely that at least is possible, if not the whole album at least some of the stuff that's finished could be put out on a couple of Eps But thank you James and Charlie and Steve and Aaron and Kevin and Sean .. it's been a blast, you've given me some of the best evenings of my life. And whatever you all do in future I'll be cheering you on And now I may just have to go down a corner and cry !

I am so Bloody James Why couldn't he wait until after the Melbourne con? To say I'm not happy is an understatement. This whole con experience has turned into somewhat of a disaster. Thanks for all the kind words girls. I appreciate it. I'm going to give James a when I meet him!

I am so sorry you won't get to see them Toy, but who knows what has gone on in the background... If they knew it was the end of the road it would have been a bit "flat" performing in Australia. And if they had done the BDU gig, they maybe would have felt they should do Oakland..... Carrying on when you know it is really over is never a good thing. Er...? *nods* Maybe not two weeks for me, but two days. And then a big stupid grin for another week... to everyone.

I saw them twice, and they were so good... I've never had that much of a high, even from being on stage myself... felt like flying (and no, I wasn't on drugs). Can't believe they've split up!
Maybe one day in the future when Macbeth's over, they'll get together for one last tour. The Pixies did it, lots of people did it, why not them? Fingers and everything else fervently crossed.

I would say all the band bar Steve (lol) are at crucial ages and points in their lives. In three years time who knows where they all will be and what they will be doing?
And I can't really see James at 45+ deciding to hit the rock tour trail again - once the movie is made it has to be promoted, and he also has to get more work acting/producing. This is a turning point for him.

I know... I just hope he doesn't give up on his singing entirely. I've lived in music all my life, and it does funny things to you... such a powerful thing. I can't explain it, but if it means that much to you and you're not involved in it for a while, it's as though a part of you is missing - a part of your soul, or something. I really hope he keeps up with it, even if it's just singing in the shower... it's such a feel-good thing. I hate to think of any former-musician giving up music for good, it's just dunno. My heart bleeds for people who have to give up something like that because of other things in their lives. Seems such a shame that we can't always make time to do all the things we love. Sorry, that was a bit rambling, hope it makes sense.
