About 580 km north of where I live. Uhm, that's... uh... like 360 miles? Yes?
I'm afraid the speculation on the boards about who did what to whom has already started. There's blame all around. *sigh*

I shall just reiterate that everyone is free to air their opinions here, and on this touchy subject, but there won't be any bad mouthing of any of the ex Ghosts, or other boards or posters where feelings are inflamed and vitriolic. Nobody has, don't worry, I'm just saying. As this could all turn very very nasty. I too am perplexed as to why we were given snippets of Steve's message(s) to start with and now we have the version that will only make matters worse Mind you, it is all good publicity for the launch of a new incarnation of the band, isn't it?! Call me old and cynical. I won't deny it!

oh PK .. as if any of us would ever badmouth anybody Anyway .. having vented I nipped over to the GOTR forum and posted the following hopefully non inflamatory message ... and now I need tea and a ciggie .. this band thing is really bad for my health Mixed feelings here .. glad the band are carrying on ,glad the album and a tour are planned .. glad that Steve and Charlie were obviously well aware that this day may come and thus had a " plan B" and were evidently getting a website together. sorry that Sean won't be there .. very sorry indeed And I'm terribly sad that the letter from Steve wasn't left in it's edited version There's stuff that needs talking over and sorting out evidently and there's stuff that could and maybe should have been done differently but selfishly I want my memories of GOTR to be positive, I want this ending and this beginning to be handled with grace and I don't want to see the sort of stuff we all say and feel privately about situations to be put out in public ( Yes I know Steve gave permission for the whole thing to be posted .. that's why I'm saddened) My last memories of GOTR are of a fantastic band looking like they were having fun, of the brilliant London Gigs . of the Q and A where the friendship and respect between bandmates was so very evident . I don't know what happened and I actually don't want to know . I just want to pay my respects to a great band and hopefully to have some of the material I so enjoyed hearing Live to be out on CD along with the stuff we haven't heard yet. And then I want to see what this new band sounds like and hopefully become a fan of Gods Of The Radio too. And above all I want all and any dirty linen to be washed in private. I would love at some point a fitting official statement from all five bandmembers that gracefully winds up this chapter and opens a new one. And I wish each and every member of the old band and the new every success in wherever life may take them. Is that too much to ask?

The International site has buckled under the hit strain for time being!
I still think it is all great publicity for a "new" band, and helps garner support for them.
Btw, seeing as I don't have any ciggies to hand to help soothe my savage breast, I have had some not very charitable thoughts about how this debacle seems to hinge around a premature announcement on the websites. Premature in the sense that although there was obviously a knowledge that a Plan B would be necessary, the posting of the news seems to have taken at least two of the band by surprise. And I agree with you Deb, a joint statement would help the situation, or failing that maybe their manager would like to come up with something.... *meaningful silence*
ETA - Int GOTR is back up now.

Great letter, Deborah. And yes, some clarification of the situation by whoever still knows what's actually going on would be nice.
Good point. *wonders if maybe it's all a publicity stunt that the guys came up with over that infamous bottle of Jack Daniels at MR...* ;D
Steve: "Fans won't like't." James: "You know wha'? Jus' blame it all on me. Nah, I mean't. Make'em believe I'm a real asshole. They'll all come to your shows jussa piss me off..."

Couple of things to get off my chest- -other boards have too many rules and don't let you speak your mind..( they hate wheatgrass for that reason) I love to read this one because we can remain free and liberal.(wheatgrass likes that) About the breakup. I was under the impression all along that James was doing this on the side. He did say it in some way shape or form. He also is known to give his all in anything that his does. So the breakup..not a big suprise. He is unable to give his all and that's that. This was the best decision he could have made. He is an exceptional actor--that cannot go to waste. I will repeat Steve's comment about the announcement being "selfish" on the part of James. We may never know the details...but although James is sweet when we meet him (i'm a LEO- i can relate). He states over and over that he has a A**hole side. ie. "selfish" He kinda has the right to be assertive and make statements as such. Even though they were a band and equal. James started it (I know , I know "with Charlie") Without James,It would have been a much longer time for those boys to get noticed. I think that's obvious. I think they are VERY talented and will succeed in music, but James' name and all of us fans, assisted with the take off. I just needed to say something because the 3 concerts I've been to were awesome and something that I will always cherish. All this discussion about who's a bad guy..just sucks. It happens... everyday....to many bands. I will remain as always a James fan.... for his beauty, for his heart, for his passion and his skill. wg P.S. I will give the new band a chance -gods of the radio? Not too sure I can deal with the name though. But talented I concur.

Oh dear I knew I should have kept my vow and not visited the GotR related boards anymore I too am mystified as to why the original email was edited. This is going to turn into WWIII ! But I'm sticking to my opinion, it's not the end of the world, but it is all starting to get very, very sad. That's the spirit (no pun intended) Snow ;D This is the version I am now choosing to believe. Let's hope they are laughing their arses off at all the fuss My thoughts exactly.

Wheatie, we don't see you nearly often enough And no one has picked up on my dig at the person James told us once or twice on the Euro tour to be nice to because he was a good guy Probably just as well, as I'd then have to moderate myself As we have known for months that Gods of the Radio was going to be the name of the new album, it is all awfully convenient to turn it into the new band name. But I sure won't be calling the band Gods in the affectionate way I called the GOTR #1 Ghosts.

You know, I had already written a really long-winded speech about how very well I could understand how Steve must feel and how on the other hand I really don't want to blame anything on James but then I thought why bother? They're grown-ups. They're guys. It's their problem. I just want them to kiss and make-up (okay, the kissing is not obligatory) so I can keep loving them all.

If people want to discuss the "new" band, and/or the board for them, can they start a thread in Artie Fartie please. Ta.

Okay, maybe now we can have some closure and the nastiness that has been apparent elsewhere can crawl away with its tail between its legs. We are going to explain this once again to help everyone move on. The decision to dissolve the band was not a band decision it was James' alone. We are content with his decision not because we have to be, but because we choose to be. We still consider him our friend and we support him in whatever endeavor he gets himself into.
Please don't use fanatical predisposition as a weapon because we never asked for this. All we ask of you is to rock with us, and not to sound pompous but… you either like what we do, or you move on.
We wish you all to stay.
