Oh dear..... A message from Charlie
Much to your surprise as well as mine the band Ghost of the Robot created by me and James Marsters is no longer. Although I do not agree I must respect the decisions made by my fellow band member. My aspiration in life is to rock as hard as possible in every aspect of entertainment, I will continue to do so and I hope that you will all join me as I hope you will go on and support everyone in the band in whatever they decide to do. I leave you but only for a moment with the lyrics to a song by a band called Power Animal. Some of you might remember them as the group that turned into Ghost of the Robot, some of you may not. I thank you all for your continued support and I thank you for giving me the chance to bleed...
Hear we bleed
We see you, seem so far away. We hide it, in our own little way. We want to, go so far away.
Is this what you wanted? Is this what you bleed? Did you take for granted, this means everything?
So hear we go, So far away.
Is this what you wanted? Is this what you bleed? Did you take for granted, this means everything?
We see your expressions, We feel how you care, We notice your motions, And where you hold your stare.
So hear we go, So far away, We'll never know, Just what to say.
You never, I never, You'll never, We'll never. know.
We thank you for giving us the chance to bleed....................................through. All the other lines, they should have been mine.
And now it's our time to rise up, to the challenge. YEAH!!!
Regret you, and do it everyday, They left you in a shallow grave, You like this or go so far away.
- Charlie DeMars

Does that mean they'll go back to being Power Animal and we'll get more music, I wonder? Wouldn't be quite the same (she says loyally), but it would be nice... *sigh* guess we'll just have to wait and see. Talking of turning points, I must've missed the fact I passed one myself. A year or two back I'd have been having tantrums over this and throwing things at the walls (my poor neighbours!). Now I just feel... sad, and deflated, and other things I can't quite put words to. Accepting - it's a decision that's been made and can't be changed - but still sad. It's as though my heart's turned to molten lead. That's the best way of describing it.

Will it be the same without James if the others stay together?

Some of them were in bands together before - Soccer Hooligans, Power Animal. If they want to, they can do that again. And let's not forget, Steve has other fish to fry too.

I guess we just have to wait and see.
James is such a performer, though, he really carried the band; music-rather-than-James-fan who came to a gig with me commented on it - it's not just me saying it! He has more of a stage presence than the others, prolly thanks to being an actor. So it wouldn't be quite the same spectacle to watch, I guess... no more lollipops...
But the music itself might be just as good, and I'd certainly be interested to hear anything that came from them, as they're all very talented musicians.

So it was a surprise to Charlie as well? Now I'm even more annoyed! And he doesn't agree with his decision! They were all probably looking forward to Oz! I'm fed up with James today.

Aw, Ditto, BIG hugs! That's not like you! It can't have been an easy decision for the poor guy - you can tell how much he loved performing. But there was a gig that didn't go well, wasn't there, and weren't some people really critical about his singing? That's gotta knock your confidence, however good you think you are, and he did say he didn't think he could cut it as a singer (not true, he's actually pretty good). But if he's feeling that way, he prolly feels it's best to stick with what he knows best rather than get beat down by musos all the time. Don't get me started on musos and the bitchiness of the musical world. I've spent my life in it, and this is an escape for me - no musos here, thank God! Some people will say harsh things just to hurt you and knock your confidence and to make themselves feel as though they're better than you - whether what they say is justified or not. Anyway, no more soapbox about that I hope he hasn't taken all that rubbish too much to heart.

When i read this at school this morning , i just couldnt believe it, i know james hinted about it but i thought, he will still have some spare time he cant leave the band, and now look whats happened. I am so upset! Luckily i saw them at cov but i was looking forward to going to more gigs because they were so good and now i'm left wondering what the hell is going on behind the scenes and why james feels he cant cut it as a singer - is he Mad! someone needs to talk to him lol Charlie doesnt sound too impressed and originally i thought this was a group decision but obviously not

Aw, hugs, babe! We're all pretty upset. I'll tell him it's rubbish he can't cut it as a singer, you just watch! lol, if I can stop my knees from shaking long enough to make it sound convincing! Knowing how scaredy I am, it's so not gonna happen! No, not, mad, just lacking in confidence as a singer. It's harder getting up on stage to sing stuff than it is getting up there to act. Acting - well, you're acting another person who may or may not be like you. But to sing... it's YOU up there, looking at all those people, laying your soul bare for them to rip to shreds if they choose. If they do it to your acting, you can say it's the character. If they do it to your singing, it's you, it's personal, and it cuts unbelievably deeply. I think it's brave of anyone to sing in public, particularly their own songs, because you put so much of yourself into it. But he's first and foremost an actor, so of course he's going to have more loyalty to his acting career... and wouldn't it be a bit strange if he didn't?

Ok .. I've had a think ( I'd have liked a drink but that would have been a bad idea ) And this is what I just posted over on the GOTR boards.. where I have to say there are a lot of supportive comments and the odd downright nasty one. , anyway here's mine Ok Thank you James and Charlie for starting this band in the first place thank you to Kevin and Steve and Aaron for joining and for becoming such a wonderful band and for using your talents to produce such amazing music and such great shows Thank you to Sean for rocking like a B*stard and for stepping in to take over the skins .. I'm so sorry for you that it didn't last longer but you are a great drummer and I expect great things of you Thank you to the management and the band for bringing the band to Europe, for making the LP for working so hard on the songs and the music and for making the stage shows such a blast . And thanks James for being such an energetic engaging front man .. It will be a sadder world with no GOTR gigs to look forward to And thank you also James for continually striving to improve your singing (damn ,you were getting good) .. and for putting the band forward in the public eye.. for stepping back and making sure that Charlie got his time in the spotlight.. for arranging those Q and A sessions.. for using your fame to get some very talented musicians out where their talents could be seen .. I wish them all well and look forward to seeing the next incarnation of the band ( whatever that may be) I'm inexpressably sorry that this anouncement has been made , I'm hoping against hope that the " Gods Of The Radio " album will be finished and put out for us, if nothing else than as an epitaph for a fine band and a fun two years of fandom. If I had one wish it would be for a farewell gig .. I know that it isn't going to happen but I'd travel anywhere to see the band play one more show and bow out on a high. Charlie was the one who wrote " I want more than this, something without tricks something on my own" .. well Charlie you got your wish .. seize this opportunity and lets see what you can do .. I have no doubt that GOTR fans everywhere will give you their wholehearted support. I for one will be haunting this board and waiting to see what the next thing is . A band takes work and trust and talent and it also takes time .. If James feels that he cannot give it 100% anymore then maybe he is right to let it go.. but I hope with all my heart that somewhere, sometime we willl see this band together again and we will hear James sing again .. because something is missing from my life right now . Yes I will watch the films and the shows and follow James' career with keen interest but my happiest memories are of him on stage at The Forum with 2,000 screaming fans and the amazing group of musicians who were GOTR . It just felt so right and I will forever cherish that memory. Thank you

Just because we understand the reasons for it happening doesn't mean we're happy there's no more band! How horrible would it be if we were all "Oh, well, it doesn't really matter...". I think it's nice we care and we will get over it in time - whispering in case Ditto hears me...Also, a big thumbs up to pretty much everything deb said (but I'm not going to quote it - too much to say! I'm glad most people are being supportive. It's never easy giving up something you love, even if you know it's the right decision...

Is it just me, or did anyone else think james' statement didnt sound like him, do you think a publicist wrote it because i cant imagine james being all ' I hope you support ME' i imagine him saying 'i hope you support us all'

I have seen people posting this all day. I expect it was his publicist; probably usually is when his thank yous and statements are posted on his and/or GOTR's site. You would expect him to give it the once-over before it went live, of course. But *shrugs* so what? Doesn't change anything. I'm not going to nitpick over semantics; life's too short.

lol, doesn't change anything. You could tell he loved the band - maybe he just felt too chewed up over the whole thing to really notice what his publicist had written *shrugs* not that it really matters all that much. GotR is still over, we'll still support him, we'll still support the rest of the guys. As, I suspect, he is very well aware.
