From James' Houston Q&A:
How did I get involved in recording the Dresden books?
Um, they just called me up; which was strange because it's a book that so doesn't need an English accent. And that's all I was really known for. Uh, but I was so happy to kinda give it the old Sam Spade try; you know.
But yeah, I had a great time. I think that Dan is a really good writer, you know? Excuse me, Jim, sorry. I was thinking of Dan Brown. Someone gave me the Da Vinci Code this morning. I for an autographed copy of the Da Vinci Code [gleeful face, happy clapping motions!]. So, sorry Jim Butcher, sorry. I know your name!
He has the ability though. His plots go quickly. he's able to define characters with the minimal amount of language ands he is able to get into psychological truths that really make me feel uncomfortable. You know like one or two scenes per book there's some character that you may find out a little bit more than you even wanted to know.
[didn't get all of the next sentence]
It jsut helps, psychologically..... being unsettled as you go into those mysterious worlds

Just wanted to say that this board officially is of the opinion that the Buzzy crew are cool, and we know how much they like working with James It's payday today and my James tour is over - short but very sweet So I can maybe take the Grave Peril plunge now. Almost dreading it, in a way, as the book made me sob! Gawd knows what listening to James reading it will do to me

I got my Grave Peril a week or so ago....only a day or two after I ordered it....and I agree with PK....Buzzy media people are great! Ever since Dragoncon, when the nice lady at Buzzy gave me my audio book then and there ( I had ordered it online) so I could get it autographed by both JB and JM...well, :-/s to her and them! Anyway, about the book....it's so fantastic, that I have to pace myself....and I sometimes use my headset and listen to audio books when I'm having trouble sleeping, but I get so wrapped up in the GP story line that I find myself finishing one disc and digging around in the dark for the next....lol, very quietly snapping the lid open and shut, so I don't disturb B! JM's voices are wonderful, very easy to picture the character talking....and of course, the story itself was a page turner book and now a delicious listen! Can NOT get enough of Harry!!

Chicago based wizard/detective Harry Dresden is back and in more trouble than ever in Grave Peril, the third novel in author Jim Dresden’s The Dresden File series. Like it’s predecessors, Storm Front and Fool Moon, Grave Peril is now available from Buzzy Multimedia on unabridged audio CD, read by James Marsters.
Having already tackled a malevolent sorcerer and rampaging werewolves ( along with vampires good-but-hostile fellow wizards, human mobsters and a reporter girlfriend) Harry has his hands full this time out with a variety of overlapping problems.
When Harry and his friend Michael a Knight of the cross try to discover what has driven a ghost to attack a hospital nursery they find themselves up against an evil entity that infiltrates the nightmares of the living Harry must also fend off his faerie godmother who wants to collect on the soul he owes her; and resist attempts by the vampire’s Red Court to use him to start a war between the bloodsuckers and the wizard’s White Council.
There’s so much going on at once here that it’s amazing writer Jim can keep it all straight. For himself or for us but he does so in, er, wizardly fashion, displaying great imagination in both events and description. Jim also shows a great gift with his characterisation of Harry our hero and narrator, who is better company than ever.
As the reader, James has a ball bringing to life Harry’s exasperation, stubbornness, cheerful sarcasm and occasional misery and terror, and he also has a lot of fun with supporting characters.
Standouts include the aforementioned faerie godmother who James reads as an oh-so-sexy bad girl ( it works) and Harry’s sidekick Bob a spirit who inhabits a skull and speaks with a posh, droll, English accent. Arguments between the cranky American Harry and the erudite slightly distracted and ever – lustful Bob that were amusing on the page are an outright hoot in James’ performance, which is so energetic that it’s easy to forget we’re listening to a one-man show. James also does a creepily good job with his portrayal of a seriously disturbed young girl, and brings an inhuman quality to the snarling nightmare.
The Dresden series is now up to seven books and counting-and the most recent Dead Beat, just came out in hardcover. Jim Butcher’s narratives and characters coupled with James’ voice are an unbeatable combination-here’s hoping there’s much more where this came from.

Q&As re Dresden Files at Toronto Con in August, transcribed by helcat:
Q: Will he do the other Dresden books
He wants to do as many as they want him to do.
Q: How does he come up with the ideas for the Dresden character voices
He tries not to think about things and just goes with what he feels. They can always do a retake if he does something that doesn’t work.

Finished listening to 'GP' yesterday...*sniff*, absolutely fantastic. I think I'm going to have to buy the rest of DF series to read as I'm totally hooked on them now, and need to know how our Harry manages from now on. *memo to self* tell family so I can get them for crimbo

I've only just finished the first CD as I am easily diverted, but am loving it. Well, I knew I would as it is still my fave of the books. I'll try to get some more of GP under my belt before I have to go back to work.

News from Jim Butcher's site.Buzzy Multimedia (www.mediafans.com) is producing the audio version of SUMMER KNIGHT, book 4 of the Dresden Files. There is no word yet about who will be reading the book, but as soon as we know, we'll announce it here. They've never mentioned James' name until he's signed on the dotted line before, so here's hoping. They get someone else at this stage? Sales drop anticipated

Jim B's missus Shannon posted this at the forum at JB's siteWe just got word from the ladies at Buzzy that James Marsters has agreed to read SUMMER KNIGHT! He's done such a great job with the first three books and we're thrilled they were able to get him again.
I'm not sure when the audio will be avalailable for preorder, but when it is, you can get it here: www.mediafans.com ;D Not my fave of the series, too many fairies for my liking, but James will do great things with it I'm sure

Aw, seems like they are aiming for a January 2007 release for Summer Knight. A late Crimbo present, then ;D Lovely interview with Buzzy's June about the recording of the books, James as Harry (James IS Harry ;D) etc at www.jamesmarsters.com/james/summerknight.htmlIt being my least fave of the books so far, this quote makes me glad: "The recording went very well. James was superb. His attention to detail, his skill as an actor, and his always professional attitude came together to bring about an even higher than usual energy, making this the best recording ever."
Infact the interview is one big lovefest, and is quite fascinating in the details Can't you just see James in this little space, "acting with his entire body"? Infact, you literally can see him do just that in one of the pics ;D
