Yup, why waste his time, and everyone else's, on something that wouldn't challenge him and his character. Best to be clear about that before they get too far down any other road. Absolutely, co-star or support is definately 'been there, done that, bought the t-shirt', why bother.

Ask Ausiello - talking to Joss: You spoke to Tim Minear about writing and directing the Spike movie. Where do things stand?
Things stand that all of the art guys — the people who would be involved artistically — have been trading phone calls going, "Wouldn't this be cool? Wouldn't this be cool?" We don't have a paradigm set up yet. We don't have anything solid to announce. I'm just making sure that the creative people I need are in place before I set up a whole deal and then James Marsters goes, "Gosh, you know? That's kind of behind me now." Or [if] I don't have a writer I can trust, because I don't have time to do it all myself; I need one of my peeps. And there's no greater peep for something like this than Mr. [Tim] Minear. I'm optimistic that I will actually have something to say in the near future, but at this point it's still me and my buddies going, "Wouldn't it be cool?"
Have you spoken to David Janollari at WB yet?
I'm not going to go into the deal-making stuff at all.
Can you tell us if you've spoken to anyone aside from James about appearing in the movie?
Yes, I have.
Amy Acker?
Yes, I have. Well, you know, I see Amy a lot, I see Allyson [Hannigan] a lot and Alexis [Denisof]. I've spoken to a couple of people just because we're making conversation, and they don't hate the idea. The worst thing that could happen is that somebody would be too busy because, as we know, all of my alumni are taking over the world.
Do you see Allyson/Willow being a part of it?
You know, if I get a chance to use Allyson, I'll use Allyson. That's a given. There's no maybe about that. The maybe is, does she have time? And if she does have time, shouldn't she be busy doing Veronica Mars, where we need to know more about her character?
No Willow, PLEASE! And perhaps talking to James himself might be helpful Joss! He's saying YES (with certain caveats), if you did but know it

From Ain't It Cool NewsBig scoop came in earlier this week. Joss Whedon's been in town recently promoting SERENITY, and got to speaking with our new (and highly anonymous) scooper. "He told me that it's 99% likely (his words) that a new series of "Buffy" and "Angel" movies of the week will be happening soon. Spike will be the kick-off point followed by, hopefully, one with Illyria (sp), and Willow - depending on 'everyone's schedules, naturally'.Springboard Spike again... I guess I don't have a problem with that; although my interest would most definitely wane for subsequent movies featuring other characters (seeing as how Gunn and Lorne are never mentioned, and I couldn't give a toss about any of the others from either show. Apart from Angel of course, but we know that he isn't an option).

I never thought she was going to have anything to do with it, but hurrah for the confirmation! Guide
TVGuide.com: Regarding your ties to Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel, which you produced, will you be involved in the oft-discussed Spike movie?
Noxon: I don't think so. I think either Tim Minear or Drew Goddard will probably write it; I don't think Joss [Whedon] is planning to write it himself.
I'm pretty lucky in that my plate is pretty full right now, because I'm working on a movie, too, so I haven't had the time to even think about that.

SLAYING STRAIGHT TO DVD 10.27.05 By Devin Faraci Contributing sources: SciFi Wire Ah, the good old days, back when Joss Whedon wasn’t calling my editorials hate bombs. Back then I interviewed him for Serenity, and one of the questions I asked was about the future of the Buffyverse. I reasoned that most fans had come to Firefly, the show that Serenity was based on, through the DVD box set. To them that was a direct to DVD show. Why not continue Buffy stories that way – which would allow you to go beyond what censors would allow without having to worry about pleasing the big audience of a theatrical movie.
Whedon was impressed – I was the first person who had said that to him. He confirmed that talks were in progress to do just that, and that he didn’t want to spill the beans yet, so I agreed to not run that part of the interview. I guess the beans are spilled, though – Marti Noxon told SciFi Wire "There are serious discussions going on about bringing some of the characters back and making a few movies that will go straight to DVD, but they will certainly be the quality they have always been.”
She says that it would probably be secondary characters, and when I spoke to Whedon it was in the context of a Spike film. That’s what I would expect to be the first of what will most likely be a very lucrative series of films.

Joss speaks Spike movie (and a lot else besides) on Whedonesque. Movie-salient bits: Speaking of Darkhorse Comics, they are starting a new Buffy comic, and as I understand it, it will take place after the end of Buffy and Angel and be canon in the Buffy world. And I understand it that way 'cause I'M WRITING IT. I'm kicking off the book with a four issue arc that finds Buffy -- you guessed it -- living in Italy with The Immortal. (Scott -- don't be mad I spoiled the announcement -- saying it means I have to finish it.) Then I'll be overseeing the book more closely, to make sure it remains true. Gonna be interesting. And it just might tie in to...
The infamous Spike movie. Still haven't finalized anything, but I feel that very soon I'll be able to go to James and say something a lot more interesting than "Wouldn't it be cool if..." 'Course, I just hope he's free some time this decade. See how my peeps is all actifying! WhedonesqueSee, I like the Immortal. He's a bit of a lad. But Buffy... *shrieks and runs* Makes me kinda to wonder how the Buffy/Immortal comics would lead in to a Spike movie... unless Spike and The Immortal get together in some shape or form

The Dude: Any truth to the rumors about the direct to DVD Buffy films? (The premise being 2 hour films that focus on ONE main character each from the gang, as is best to my understanding).
Joss Whedon: I don't know if there's any truth yet. I'm trying to find that out myself. That I can not answer. Ummm...ahhh...uhhh..... (lots of stammering).
The Dude: I made you uncomfortable, I'm sorry.
Joss Whedon: NO! No, I'm just working on it, and.... Movies OnlineBored now. Unless by some miracle they end up being made of course and then I'll be buying the Spike one. So I am a hypocrite.

Oh, blah-de-blah Joss... How true are these rumors of a Spike movie? They're true rumors, but right now they're still just rumors. Things don't move fast in the world of anything, you know? I mean, trying to get deals made and trying to get something set up is ... I think the Sistine Chapel took less time.
But you're all for the idea.
I've been pushing for it -- I'm in fact, the secret mastermind behind it all!
You don't think James Marsters is getting too long in the tooth to wear that leather trenchcoat, eh?
I think his teeth are fine. But he and I both agree those teeth have a shelf life. They're not on the shelf, but when they are, that shelf life will be over. The glacier speed of the executive world means that we could run out of time. Or, you know, the people that I am trying to line up could become unavailable. There's a lot of factors involved, but I'm working my a-- off, as always.

I was in two minds whether to bother with this, but hey ho. Sci-fi have a poll on the right hand side of their home page for you to vote for the Joss project you'd most like to see. Obviously, the Spike movie is an option or it wouldn't be here at all www.scifi.com/scifiwire/

Oh my, SFX magazine is really asking for it! In the new issue just arrived, they have a wee feature headed Spike Movie, with one of the S6 Spike bluey greeny pics. Then: It's been hinted that a series of Buffyverse movies could be on the cards, so we want to know what you'd like to see in the Spike movie. Obviously James Marsters will be there, but what should he be getting up to? Should Buffy be there? Or should it be set in the past, showing what the bleach-blond vamp got up to long before the Buffster came along? Maybe you just want to have lots of scenes with him not wearing a whole lot, eh fangirls? we want to know all about it!
Send your comments to sfx@futurenet.co.uk (please title your email WISHLIST). Please remember to include your name and location! Or get in touch via our forum (http://forum.sfx.co.uk) Closing date for your comments is February 17thThere ya go, what are you waiting for?! In my ideal world it would be a post-NFA story co-starring Angel with lots of fabulous and detailed flashbacks all about them and writhing with hot sex. And Buffy would never even be alluded to... They have so moved on But that ain't gonna happen forum.sfx.co.uk
