I posted an interview with Joss in his own thread yesterday but forgot to bring this bit over. Seems to me like, after a heady few weeks of extreme positivity re a Spike movie, we now are consistently having cold water thrown over us, largely by Joss. Unless he is wearing his poker face... SSC: Going back to the future of a Buffy, Angel, or Spike or film project, is there a realistic timeline for something happening sooner rather than later?
JW: We've talked about a Spike movie. There are a lot of characters that I would be interested in seeing again: Willow, Faith, Oz, Illyria, and Spike, obviously. I'm still dying to do Ripper . There's a lot, but right now, I can barely keep my head above water, so nothing is on the front burner. Sideshow Collectibles interviewAnd of course, James has possibly gone out and got himself mucho other work now...

Yeah naughty Joss, James can't wait for ever to see if he will decide on a Spike movie, Joss may have waited too long now and with James's other projects he's not going to be availiable but no Ripper for me please Joss

Oh, I wouldn't mind that at all, so long as it had strong storylines. And he's been leading Tony on with that project for years! But I still see that as having stronger British legs than something that would interest a broader US audience.
But if any Buffyverse/Angelverse type project keeps getting put on the backburner the momentum will be well and truly lost for those that aren't diehard fans.

I don't much care so long as it has Spike in it.

I'm only bothering to post this as information gathering is in my blood. I don't particularly set any store by it. Kristin at eonline Insider: Yes, it's really me. Kristin Veitch. (Soon to be Vartan.)
So ... HOLY POOP!
Just talked to Alyson Hannigan (LOVE HER) at CBS' panel session for "How I Met Your Mother." When asked about the possibility of a Buffy movie, she said "last I heard, they were doing a Spike movie" and that it would be "straight to DVD." (!!!) Could this be the "big new project" James Marsters was alluding to?
<snip>
xo, KV
And I do hope it's NOT the project... he kinda sorta intimated that was a series, not a Spike DVD. Even though that'd be cool - we'd all get the chance to see that. But not instead of a series, please.

And let's not forget what Emma Caulfield said at SFX about Aly being a practical joker par excellence... it would be cooler than cool, however! ;D

Thanks PK Yep Joss certainly does seem to do a lot of 'talking to James'.......Personally I'm very happy to see him in other genre's, but if there ever is a 'Spike' movie great I'll be as pleased as everyone else, but I won't hold my breath.

Spike movie tidbits from Kristin's chat with James: Rumors have been swirling about a Spike project. I know you had said you feel like there's a time limit on doing something like that. Do you still feel the same way? Yeah, I do. It's weird. I just got off the phone with someone who talked to Joss [Whedon] yesterday, who claimed that it was very much on the front burner. Joss has never told me anything like that. He's checked with me twice, to see if I was interested. I said yes twice, and both times he's been very clear that this doesn't mean that anything's going forward, [he] just wants to have [his] ducks in a row. What he told me was, the first question to answer is if there's a story worth telling. I thought there would be a lot of stories worth telling for Spike, but I think it has to be a story that he feels is worth telling, one that excites him enough. And I think if he finds it, there will be a Spike movie, and if he doesn't, there probably won't and there probably shouldn't be.

Yeah. Thing of it is, many of us could think of a million and one Spike stories still to tell. And I bet some of the old writing and production team could too. Joss could let them come up with stuff and then do the 'teacher wielding a red pen business', as his sees fit. Tsk.

And there was I thinking someone like Drew Goddard, when I posted that, as he seems keen; although I'd prefer him working alongside someone else, like Steve deK or the Furious One. But Tim Minear's name has been thrown into the mix... He wrote my most fave Angel episode EVA!!! (Are You Now Or Have You Ever Been...). Oh, and Darla, the FFL crossover type thing episode (which he directed too). And a shitload of others too, of course. Anyway, some mild squeeing may be in order... As posted by Simon on Whedonesque, Tim says:

I'm building on yesterday's mild squee to something more guttural ;D From Herc at AICNSPIKE THE VAMPIRE On Mutant Enemy’s “Front Burner”?? FIREFLY God Tim Minear Asked To Write And Direct?? I am – Hercules!! How giddy does that headline make you? I can tell you it makes me super-extra-giddy!! The funniest, smartest and best writer or director on “Angel” not named Joss is Joss Whedon’s pick to write and direct a new “Spike” movie?? Fuck. Me. From zap2it.com, July 22, 2005: The "Smallville" stint may not be the only work on The WB for [James] Marsters. Network head David Janollari says he would "gladly" do a movie featuring the Spike character if Marsters and "Buffy"/"Angel" creator Joss Whedon want to do one.
From E! Online, Aug. 19, 2005: “I just got off the phone with someone who talked to Joss [Whedon] yesterday, who claimed that [the "Spike The Vampire"] project was very much on the front burner. Joss has never told me anything like that. He's checked with me twice, to see if I was interested. I said yes twice, and both times he's been very clear that this doesn't mean that anything's going forward, [he] just wants to have [his] ducks in a row.” – James Marsters
From Whedonesque.com, Aug. 20, 2005: "I had lunch with Joss and he asked me if I wanted to write and direct some blonde vampire movie thing. Should I do it? (I of course said yes right off, still) Anything under 13 hours scares me. And anything over 13 hours... um. I got nothin'." – Tim Minear
Now, Whedonesque (rather irritatingly) does not reveal to whom Minear told this, or where the quote appeared, so I wrote Tim and asked after its legitimacy. Mr. Minear’s reply:
Yeah, that's me. Probably shouldn't have said anything, but what the hell. You're behind this somehow, aren't you?
Whatta maroon!! Yeah, Tim, sure. Like some fucking little Internet gossip is going to play a role in getting you hired to revive the entire Buffiverse! Heh

Oh, I know we've learned to be cautious about a possible Spike movie, and also we are excited about Smallville, but I can't believe the most recent Spike movie news hasn't provoked a response!
Okay, it may still never happen, but this is the most positive stuff we have heard about it. We have a writer/director, and a lead actor ;D
So I am dusting off my wish-list. I'd like a movie to be:
- Spikecentric, no pushing him into the background, thanks - Post-NFA (don't mind by how much or how little) - Illyria would be cool alongside him, and if Joss would allow Gunn to be reprieved, that would be fine and dandy too. - if any Buffy characters have to be in it, let it be short and sweet cameos. - flashbacks would be good (but I am a flashback ho)
How about you guys?

I agree with you on most of your wish list PK Absolutely..... Yep, would go along with that too, although not bothered about Gunn I'm afraid Me too, and I'd love the flashback's to include Juliet Landau, the chemistry between Spike/Dru was wicked..... I'm not that fussy about BTVS characters, with the possible exception of Willow.
