THE SKINNY: Well, Joss Whedon has said he would like to do a SPIKE made for movie spin-off from his BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER/ANGEL series and today the WB press tour, Entertainment President David Janollari revealed that they would like to see a SPIKE movie too.
"We would love to do a SPIKE movie with Joss Whedon," says Janollari. "Joss Whedon is fast becoming a big-feature filmmaker. He's currently working on an adaptation of WONDER WOMAN for Warner Bros. He's simply just not been available to us. But he knows and you guys all know, the door is open any time that he wants to do that -- for us to do that movie. We're thankful that James Marsters is on SMALLVILLE this year, keeping him alive on our network." iFMagazine

More of the usual, but it's worth posting for the last paragraph alone Spike Fans Rejoice - WB Eager For New Vampire Tale
According to the SciFi Channel, David Janollari, president of entertainment at The WB, told reporters that the network is eager to air a movie based on the "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" character of Spike - played by James Marsters - if creator Joss Whedon becomes available.
"We'd ... love to do a Spike movie with Joss Whedon," Janollari said in a news conference at the Television Critics Association winter press tour in Pasadena, Calif.
Just one problem - the "Firefly" / "Serenity" director is already helming two large feature film projects. Whedon is currently working on an adaptation of "Wonder Woman" for Warner Brothers and the supernatural tale "Goners" for Universal. According to Janollari, however, "the door is open any time" that Joss decides to do a Spike film.
In the meantime, Marsters, who played the vampire character in both "Buffy" and its WB spin-off series, "Angel," has a recurring role on The WB's Superman series "Smallville." Audiences last saw Spike as he was taking up arms with Angel against the armies of hell in the "Angel" series finale in May of 2004.
Despite the deafening sound of the Browncoats (fans of the "Firefly" 'verse) crying out for more adventures with the Serenity crew (yes, I'm one of those folks), Whedon has said that he's interested in returning to the Buffyverse with a movie at some point.
For his part, Marsters has expressed interest if the film can come together before he's "too old" to play the supposedly ageless vampire. Heh. Now that's just what you'd expect him to say. In my opinion, it was Spike who kept both "Buffy" and "Angel" from getting stale in their final seasons. His torrid romance with Buffy and his incessant jabs at Angel always made for great dialog. If a Spike movie is made - with both Marsters and Whedon - I'll undoubtedly watch. --Shannon Nolley

From nancy12b: Did Amy say anything about the Spike movie? Funny you should ask. 'Cause I did. "[Joss and I] had dinner last night," Amy told me, "and he was still talking about doing the Spike movie." When I asked if she'd want to be a part of it, she said, "If it's Joss, of course I'll do whatever. I'll, like, be the costume designer! I don't care!" But for the time being, James Marsters is tied up with Smallville, so we shall see, mes cheris.
Kristin ChatWonder if the WB/UPN merger will impact at all on the possibility of this ever happening...

With everything I've read, there seems to be a big question about the timing of the "Spike Movie", when it would take place; either pre-Buffy, or post-Angel. What if it were right in the middle? Durring the time that he is trapped in the amulet. We know from both shows that another world's view of time is completely different than "earth" time. Maybe while in the amulet he is in a time of remembering or reliving who he his and what he's become; how he got there and where he thinks he's going-- that kind of thing.
Not that my opinion is worth that much, as I didn't ever really watch iether of the shows when they were on, but became very captivated through the wonderful world of re-runs. That just seems like the perfect time to place him in a situation that focuses on only him, yet allows fans of both the evil and the good Spike to see him in their favorite fashion.

That's not a bad idea, although it did seem when he roared out of the amulet into Angel's office that it was like a split second in time to him from going all ashy to being resurrected. But it would satisfy my flashback cravings!
That being said, without some of the key actors appearing in the movie, it would be hard to pull off his reminiscences.

True, I think I read somewhere that Sarah said that she had no interest in playing the roll of Buffy again. Sad, because how could they do a Spike movie without Buffy-- unless they used cheesy cuts from the shows; but you know, in all the pics of seen of conventions and in the clips on the DVD for the end party that they had at the end of seven, I never saw her in anything-- I always found that odd. The split second thing could be explained in that throughout his time in there he finally ends his self-reflection right back at the point where he entered the amulet. It would be interesting to see what Joss' brain would come up with

<offtopic> but you know, in all the pics of seen of conventions and in the clips on the DVD for the end party that they had at the end of seven, I never saw her in anything-- I always found that odd. I don't find it odd at all. There's a reason why SMG is nicknamed The Princess. Ya know she didn't even go to the BtVS wrap party after then finished filming the last ep! She had to rush off for Scooby Doo or something. </offtopic>

Yeah, funny how Seth Green managed to make it to the party though, huh... We can all survive a Spike movie without Buffy, methinks. But Angelus made him who he was, so the lack of David would be hard in a retrospective. Anyway, I can forego my flashback jollies for a good meaty post NFA tale.

Hannigan casts doubt on 'Buffy' spin-off Monday, February 6 2006, 09:38 GMT -- by Daniel Saney
Alyson Hannigan has stated that she feels a T.V. or straight-to-DVD movie centring on her Buffy The Vampire Slayer character may spoil the show's magic.
There have been many rumblings of spin-off movies, particularly one revolving around Spike (James Marsters), the sometimes-friendly vampire who met his end in the show's finale. The possibility of a feature focusing on Hannigan's character, Willow, has also been mooted.
However, the actress told Sci Fi Wire that she would be afraid of tarnishing the show's legacy in a spin-off without the guiding hand of Joss Whedon. “I think I would just be too scared to sort of go back and possibly tarnish it in any way”, she explained. Joss is too busy. He's not going to write it. He's not going to direct it, you know?
"I'm sure he would get great people, but there's nothing like the Joss touch. I think by all means they should absolutely do the Spike movie. I think that's the logical next step, but ... I don't think Willow is the next step." Digital SpyHe didn't write or officially direct most of the series... And personally, I was never interested in seeing Willow. Bored now.

yup as you said PK "Bored now" I think they're trying to keep the Spike Move in peoples heads, but (here's my foot in it moment they will never make a Spike move *now with my luck they will announce one tomorrow * ) everyone has gone there seperate ways and I think only James will be willing to do this Movie as he always says and Joss is doing his other projects and Steve de Knight is doing Smallville so as you said Bored now

JW: I have high hopes, I am working on it but I haven't had any kind of word yet.

If it gets made at all it'd never be for thearical release; but we could get a shiny DVD straight away, instead of having to wait until it had done the cinema rounds so that's fine Joss hath spoken again And you can hear him here - Five Live (it's on the Listen Again list there for a week) Joss: "Right now I've been concentrating on trying to do a movie with Spike. A DVD Movie with Spike. And we're trying to see if that's financially feasible.
Simon Mayo: "Spike Lee?"
Joss: "I'm sorry. Spike the character from Buffy. Spike Lee is a different person."Blimey, concentrating on it?! Colour me surprised. Not so surprised at Mayo's ignorance *** A much better fit was Joss' interview on the lovely big geek boy Phill Jupitus' show this morning (Friday) on Radio 6 - he's on the last half hour of the show so just forward through the rest of the show to hear it. Nice interview but not a single mention of Spike/Spike movie. He had the chance to bring it up if he really is concentrating on it, but he only talked about Wonder Woman as his next project.

Joss is talking 'financially feasible' again... But how about the Buffyverse? You mentioned in the webchat you guys did with us when the film came out that you were hoping to return to that soon.
We are trying to put together a Spike movie – I don’t know if it’s financially feasible. That’s what I’ve been working towards for the past several months, and I should know fairly soon whether or not something’s going to happen with that.Empire Online

Joss was on MTV UK tonight (which I don't get), but Simon at Whedonesque reported that James says he's interested (yes Joss, he told you and us that an age ago), they have talked, and we would find out what would happen after the end of Angel. Anyone see this? Meanwhilke, I'm still tittering over the 'explicit requests' SFX mentioned but didn't dare print, and the brownish eyes they gave Spike (and the constipated Angel).
