Mum was mostly sleeping during my visit , but she did wake up when I spoke to her ...only due to the noise I reckon She's at that stage of her dementia now that she's pretty much forgotten how to eat and drink and is now just having subcutaneous fluids to keep her hydrated and comfortable The idea was for her to go back to the home and her own room , but as of this morning they say they can't cope with the subcut fluid regime, could only keep her mouth moistened with sponges , basically leaving her to die of dehydration , and the district nurses don't have the recources to go in and manage it To say we and the hospital are outraged is an understatement , but the hospital are going to find her a bed and say they're happy to keep her and that we can visit at any time .

That is so sad for your mum, but the hospital sound very caring so maybe that's the best place for her. It's absolutely ridiculous that there is not enough funding for the District Nurse. Take care

Sadly ,there's no point in finding another Nursing Home even if we could manage it Mum is basically just being 'kept comfortable ' , but we all know that she won't be coming back from this latest illness We are just devastated that she won't be allowed to drift away in her sleep in the only home she's known for the past ten years with staff who know her . The hospital, God love em , have found her a side room on the ward and she is being kept hydrated although we have said that we don't want her to be rescusitated should her heart stop , or a feeding tube put up her nose ...she wouldn't tolerate it , and to be honest, you need to be conscious and able to swallow to get one down anyway , and mum is just sleeping most of the time , and her swallowing reflex has gone . Thank you for all your support my lovely girls

Big hugs from me, too, NN..... I know, too, what it's like to be told nothing can be done, and all you can want for her is to be comfortable and not in any pain, and that seems to be the case.....

Have I told you lot just how much I love you .... Going to be away for a few days as it's been decided that Mum is to go back to the Nursing home this evening with all that entails, i.e no drip , so it will now be just a matter of days and we're going to head off as soon as we can . Talk soon

Okay...where to start ? I suppose with the news from the home this morning that mum is 'fine' !! We got back very late last night after a nightmare journey , and I'd left the home with mum still frail and sleepy , and not as bright as she'd been the day before where she'd been awake more and taking fluids from me ...a veryy slow process , but at least progress . I left feeling that she was comfortable , peaceful and ready to go , and that it would be a blessing ...and then on ringing this morning find out that she's pulled off yet another Houdini escape ! To be honest, I don't know if this is just a temporary improvement , and she could just as well take another turn for the worse, but it seems she's yet again successfully fought off an infection that should have , according to every doctor we spoke to , carried her off , but to say I'm stunned is an understatement This time 2 days ago I was discussing funeral arrangements with my brothers ..and she's done it to us again ;D P reckons that as soon as we turn off the M25 and head north , she thinks 'I'll show the buggers ' Once again , thank you all for your good thoughts and wishes...you've no idea how much they've kept me going
