We have just resurfaced from our sweaty pits, so will get to some detail later. The venue was cute - small, VERY hot and sweaty. And the staff were really cool and helpful. The support band were okayish, but weren't on long... not complaining!
Stage was very small so GOTR filled it all up! Proved a bit restrictive when Charlie was doing his thing running round the stage... they could have taken a nasty tumble if they had really gone for it!
James was wearing what looked like a burgundy GOTR shirt (but that could just have been the lights... on some pics it looks black), that he said his manager had told him to wear! And we could buy them at the back if we wanted to look like him! Lol! Charlie a red one, Steve in white, Kevin in blue, Aaron in white....
Hair (how shallow is this stuff?!) - James' hair seems really blond still, although with roots, natch; Charlie, very long and ultra floppy; Aaron, such gorgeous poodle hair! Steve nice and short; poor Kevin, I didn't really notice his hair, but Marilyn think sit was a wee bit shorter than when we last them....

Okay, we awere on a raise dup platform near the back, but it wasn't raised enough, especially as I was in a chair! Couldn't see any of the guys from the waist down! So no thigh stroking are crotch grabbing tales to tell, I'm afraid. ! also didn't bother taking any pics - too many heads in the way! Marilyn said she took a few. Many people have said it before me... as much as I do like their studio sound, this band are just MEANT to be seen and heard live. They totally rock, man! I mean seriously, raunchily, vibrantly ROCK! And they do have fun, so everyone else does too. The sound system wasn't too bad, although I often couldn't hear what James was saying between songs, and sometimes lyrics got sucked up in to the music but not often. They did the usual thing of taking pics of the audience beforehand, and sauntered on stage one by one. And Aaron held up a big Union Jack (we don't feel the same about our flag as you Americans do yours, so nice gesture, but no need!) Charlie struck a rock guitar god pose.... The intro built with Aaron, Kevin and Charlie.... then Steve, and then James burst on and the music exploded into Liar. On the CD, it is my least fave track but live it is hot. And then came my big surprise of the night..... Goodbye. Oh man, I have been listening to James sing this song for years, and even on the CD...always liked it but those guitars!! YES!! My fave song of the evening. The intro to Mad Brilliant was cool. Then came Dangerous, which is when James really started to work the audience! Got a lot of over the head handclapping going part way through. Angel came next and of course he strapped on his guitar. The crowd were nice and quiet and James sang it beautifully and clearly. And he head tilted virtually the entire way through *sigh* He is still dedicating the goddamn thing to Helena

Back to the report....
Next up was one of their new songs, Over Now. Sounded real pretty and sad, but I couldn't really hear the lyrics so not gonna comment too much. But James was still playing guitar.
Oh yeah baby!! Call 911 kicked ass! Had been really keen to hear this live and I wasn't disappointed. Was singing along and dancing in my chair by this point!
Another new one, Katie, was so purdy and yet raunchy and rocky at the same time. One to bounce to. Charlie was really bouncing about the stage at this point and it was real apparent it just wasn't big enough to contain them!! Charlie's hair was flopping madly and then ooopsie, he was standing on his hands!
Valerie live. Infinitely better. Rockier and punchier. Just soooo different to the CD version. James was doing a cute spinny dance in this one!
Food break now! More to come....

Next part.... There was a pause while the guys were chatting to each other and then out to the audience. Steve was asking if Ted someone was in the crowd.... was he? I'll never know, lol! Amidst the banter James suddenly yells "Steve, get naked!" And there was quite a roar of approval... he didn't though ;D Then they launched into Blocking Brainwaves. ;D Good job they were real LOUD because I was really sibnging along by then ;D Another new track... it started out as New Man 2000.... it's up to 8000 now! Made me lol! There was a lot of crowd playing now, lots of arm swaying and stuff, orchestrated by James.. David Letterman is so damn good! James told the story of how DL likes the song and his people do too, but he feels it would be not good for them to come on the show and play it... well, let them play something else then Steve came to the front of the stage *shock, horror* for German, Jewish (he really is getting into the audience action more.) Infact he, Charlie and Kevin were all to the right of the stage for their big guitar moments in this one and woohoo, they were HOT!! It was a real rocking, bouncy way to bring the set to a close. Off they go for a coupla minutes then back for Goodnight Sweet Girl, which was awesome - one the CD this is my fave track. And it was gorgeous live too. james held the notes real good, and screamed out the lyrics in all the right places *swoon, thunk* It was now that the ignortant girlies started getting into their "Get yer kit off!" shouts, which were largely ignored. It must get to be a real bore.... And they finished off with a kickass version of Vehicles Shock Me, which is another of my faves. James said we had been a real great audience, we really were, and off they trooped They played plenty, but it was over too fast Overall impressions - they rock, the guitars are powerful, Aaron is a genius, James is improving all the time vocally. They have lots of energy and enjoyment in what they do and that transmits to the audience so we feel the same. I'd love to see them in a bigger venue with a real good sound system and play for longer!
