I am surprised and amazed that James would choose to do this, given the bruhaha that went down during and after his last Vulkon and the complaints against the organisers, but I think there have been some groundrules laid down for this one... Anyway, Vulkon have announced at their site that James will be attending their Houston Con in April (1st - 3rd). Infact, the event has been rearranged (again!) from its February slot, presumably to accommodate JM. AND the venue has been changed. From the Vulkon message board, posted by one of the organisers: Huge Houston Changes! New guests: James Marsters & Amber Benson ! « on: Today at 02:11:39pm »
--------------------------------------------------------------------- Hello everyone. Well as Houston tickets were selling poorly for the February event, a drastic change was in order - so here it is!
Effective immediately the Houston guests, hotel, and dates have ALL changed!
The New dates are April 1-3rd 2005
The New Hotel is the Sheraton North Houston Hotel 15700 John F. Kennedy Boulevard Houston, Texas 77032
The New Guests are: James Marsters , Amber Benson, and Andy Hallett. And Bonus stars: Jonathan Woodward, Jenny Mollen, Kelly Donovan, with more "bonus stars" TBA
Yup you read it right! This is James Marsters ONLY CONFIRMED 2005 US appearance at this time ! And this is a rare opportunity to see and spend time with Amber Benson and Andy Hallett.
Plus (yes there is more!), James Marsters will be in Concert on Saturday night at this event!
And (yes still more), Andy Hallet and Amber Benson will also perform at the Cocktail party and the Banquet!
Much more to tell. I will post it all up online today at www.vulkon.com and send a newsletter tonight !
Hope you like the changes, this was a huge undertaking to make all these changes to make this a bigger and better event. However be advised that only 500 total tickets will be sold to make the event a better experience for everyone ! And YES gift giving for James has been cleared and aproved with Steve Himber his manager - who will be onsite at the event!
Thank you for your patience and understanding. The changes were necesary to make the event possible. Special arrangements are being made for those of you whom already bought tickets to this event, with special discounts to help compensate for any expenses incurred for changing of airline tickets for those of you who already bought them!
Plus we are also allowing payments for those of you interested in a Platinum ticket!
Regards, Fernando & Joe / Vulkon Vulkon Forums

EEK....doesn't that clash with the Celebrity Poker thing in Vegas?

Wouldn't that only affect Andy? And he might still attend both (one day at Vulkon, for instance) if he was well enough.

I was thinking more of M ! Poker, or James LOL

Post by PokerKitten on Dec 2, 2004 23:39:04 GMT
Yeah, admittedly M is a "crossover", but the two events are otherwise very different and the poker crowd ain't necessarily the Vulkon crowd. And the locations are more of a concern in the US where travelling distances can be vast.
Personally, I am staggered that JM is doing this Con, given what happened last time and how upset so many of his fans were. Maybe being bad-mouthed by the organisers both at the event and after doesn't bother him either, if he has the whip hand *ponders a while on that thought* this time around. Plus it eases him into gigging with another concert in front of a largely converted audience.
I don't think I'd want to hand over dirty great wodges of dosh to those two guys, James or no James....

Yep I was surprised to read that it was a Vulkon event he'd signed for and I think with SH more involved they may very well have set down a shitload of conditions to the guys. I haven't read any other boards threads on this yet, but I imagine great dollops are hitting the fan big time....I may go and have a shufti if I can muster the energy Whatever, I hope they've had to eat their words and shell out big time! The organisers that is, but I expect it willbe the con goer who ends up bearing the brunt

It's hardly a rumour when it is posted on the Vulkon site by one of the organisers. It might be a case of them jumping the gun, gawd knows they've done it before AND been told to retract. But that's a different thing entirely.

Although James' official site has been updated, no Houston info has been added. Vulkon, on the other hand, have made the Houston changes (date, venue, guests) on their main site now, not just their forum - www.vulkon.com/upcoming.htmAnd www.vulkon.com/houstonslayer2005/
Vulkon is proud to announce our all "NEW" Houston Texas event with New dates and with an all New Confirmed guest line-up, for this - our first Houston Texas event !
Guests are:
· James Marsters who played "Spike" on both Buffy & Angel. James appears both Saturday & Sunday for autographs and photo sessions and will also perform in Concert on Saturday Night! In collaboration with Himber Entertainment - This is James's only confirmed 2005 US appearance at this time.
· Amber Benson who played "Tara" on Buffy. This is a rare appearance for Amber whom will attend both Saturday & Sunday for autographs and photo sessions, plus will attend the cocktail party and will also perform at our banquet!
· Andy Hallett who played Lorne on Angel appears both Saturday & Sunday for autographs and photo sessions, plus will attend our Karaoke Cocktail Party & Saturday night Banquet. Andy will perform at the Karaoke Cocktail Party - health permitting,
· Kelly Donovan, (Nick Brendon’s twin brother) who was Xander's twin & stunt double on Buffy, appears both Saturday & Sunday (Plus will attend Cocktail Party & Saturday night Banquet) Note: Kelly is a "Bonus Guest"
· Jonathan Woodward who played Knox on Angel appears both Saturday & Sunday (Plus will attend Cocktail Party & Saturday night Banquet) Note: Jonathan is a "Bonus Guest"
· Jenny Mollen who played Nina Ash on Angel appears both Saturday & Sunday (Plus will attend Cocktail Party & Saturday night Banquet) Note: Jenny is a "Bonus Guest"
Attendance to this event will be very limited at only 500 tickets total. We recommend you order early to guarantee a seat! And, ALL SEATING at this event is RESERVED, so you don't have to "camp out" to get a good seat and you can come and go as you please knowing that your seat is there for you all weekend. Please be advised that you must stay in your assigned seat when in the ballroom at all times, no sitting on the floor or in the aisles will be permitted.
Tickets go on sale Saturday December 4th at starting at 5pm for Platinum tickets.
Gold tickets go on sale Monday December 6th at 8 PM.
Silver tickets go on sale Wednesday December 8th at 8 PM.
Tickets sales are staggered to prevent the crash of our online server as happened last time.
It is very unfortunate that so many people have had some really bad experiences with Vulkon, their organisation, their promises never fulfilled, and the organisers themselves. They love to spin things around and blame everyone but themselves when things go wrong, and they bad mouth their biggest draw, in front of fans, so that kinda pisses me off. Nevertheless, James and Steve would seem to have agreed to do this and in the way they want (hence the in collaboration with Himber Entertainment), so let's hope there are no further incidents and the people who do go have a great time. More details coming up....

Back on the Vulkon Forum, it looks like they are trying to correct some of the things that went wrong at Oakland, in there Avoiding long lines at Houston thread. Once again, it seems to me, that they are trying to hint at others being at fault and not themselves. Oh how noble and self sacrificing, and how to piss people off even more who were actually there and know what they saw and heard! Then Fernando follows up with the arrangements Steve and James have come up with for this event. So in fact Himber Entertainment has concentrated on the solutions, it would seem to me.

I think SH had to take some sort of control of James' schedule because he was well aware of what went on at Oakland, and whether JM was contractually obliged to do a Vulkon con or not, I doubt they would have got him to sign the contract otherwise
