Reshoots... More Bad News for 'Dragonball': Fox Schedules Reshoots by Jessica Barnes Oct 21st 2008 // 4:15PM
At this point, I'm starting to wonder why Fox even bothered trying to bring Dragonball to the big screen. Just a few weeks after the underwhelming trailer for the anime update hit the internet, a notice has been found over at Actors Access looking for Tibetan and Nepalese actors for Dragonball re-shoots. The shoots are scheduled to begin on October 30th, but there aren't many specifics on what Fox might have planned. One thing is for sure, director James Wong could stand to make a few changes before the flick hits theaters in April (if you don't believe me, take a look at James Marsters as Lord Piccolo).
Let's just take a moment to consider the history of the project -- because, for me, it all started with the casting of Justin Chatwin (War of The Worlds). As soon as Mr. Chatwin signed on the dotted line as the hero Goku, fans haven't been behind the project like Fox had hoped. Even if you ignore the obvious problem of hiring a non-Asian actor for the role, Chatwin didn't have much to recommend him other than the hair type to pull off anime spikes.
Cut to a few months later, and a nasty rumor emerged claiming Fox might possibly scrap the film altogether. The studio has since debunked that rumor, and according to their spokesperson, they are completely behind the film and loved what they saw. Then again, if they loved it so much, why are they back for re-shoots?
Dragonball is expected to arrive in theaters on April 3rd, 2009. Cinematical

If this person saw the movie it can't have been in its finished state, given the reported reshoots, but still: Positives • Action - I wasn't expecting the action scenes to be as awesome as they were. Simply put the best thing about this movie. The last action scene of Goku vs. Picollo are simply amazing... This fight scene was around 13-15 minutes long. There are other small action scenes that are fun and entertaining with slo mo but nowhere as good as the picollo vs. goku scene.
• James Marsters as Picollo was awesome. He was perfect as picollo... Oh and Picollo transforms into a light greenish color picollo towards the end of the movie.
• Justin Chatwin as Goku. This guy surprised me a lot. I really didn't like him when they casted him as goku but he did a damn good job in the acting department and he nailed the KAMEHAMEHA line.
Negatives • Story - Dragonball fans will be dissapointed with some of the changes they have made with stories and characters etc... High school setting for the first 22-23 minutes was so not needed but ah well typical hollywood garbage of adding bullshit like that.
• Chow Yun Fat as Master Roshi - I was dissapointed with this. I wanted the fucking perverted roshi who fucking grabs breasts and asses like in the anime but alas all of that is fucking gone. Also he acted like Mr. Kesuke Miyagi. You know what I mean. The lines he spoke were fine but I felt he was uncomfortable in the movie. Very dissapointed.
• Shenron the dragon - Ah another huge dissapointment... FUCK FUCK FUCK you fox. So ya they get all the dragonballs and the dragon appears but the dragon is hiding behind fucking clouds and you only see his shadow. The voice of the dragon was provided by none other than Christopher Sabat who provided the voice for the dragon in the american version of the anime. When the dragon spoke it was chilling but damnit it was hiding behind clouds. One can hope they will fix this but chances of that are very slim.

The release date schedule of "Dragonball" has been shaken up once more, but this time it is met with a great news. Having been pushed back for about eight months in early 2008, the 20th Century Fox have moved the action fantasy film' release date two days ahead of its latest changed schedule.
Instead of heading into theaters on April 10, 2009, the James Wong-directed movie will now make its way to the U.S. big screen on April 8, 2009. Though the U.S. schedule is altered once again, it will still be premiered in Japan on March 13, 2009, as reported by Reelz Channel. Initially, "Dragonball" was set to open on August 15, 2008, but to give more time to work on the special effects and reshoots, it has been pushed back to 2009 slate. AceShowbizI guess the Japanese opening date rules out a JM appearance at Hub 2, as surely he'll do press for that premiere.

'Dragonball' Trailer Possibly Moved Back Again
Those who are waiting for the release of "Dragonball" trailer may have to wait longer. Contrary to the previous rumor that the promotional video may be attached to "The Day the Earth Stood Still", Dragonball Movie Blog claimed their inside source suggested that the trailer may not be finished in time.
Of the matter, Dragonball Movie Blog quoted their source at the 20th Century Fox, "We had hoped to finish it in time for that delivery but it looks like it may be debuting later now. Still waiting to hear for sure." Sounding off similar response from Fox, Reelz Channel insisted that a source at the studio has confirmed "the Dragonball trailer debut has indeed been pushed back, and that a new date has not yet been determined." Update: Dragonball Gets a New Title? Source: ComingSoon.net December 4, 2008
20th Century Fox may have extended the title of its upcoming "Dragon Ball" adaptation to Dragonball Evolution. If it's indeed the new title the studio is going with, we should find out for sure soon.
Written and directed by James Wong, the big screen version stars Justin Chatwin, James Marsters, Jamie Chung, Emmy Rossum, Eriko Tamura, Joon Park, Chow Yun-Fat, Texas Battle, Randall Duk Kim and Ernie Hudson.
Opening in theaters on April 8, the film is based on the manga created by Akira Toriyama.

Minor spoiler, I guess. Comedian Teruyuki Tsuchida says he turned down a role in this movie, where he would have played someone who gets attacked by Piccolo because he has a dragonball. (So the spoiler is that PIccolo is attacking people who have dragonballs, as you'd probably expect of him.) So if you see James Marsters out in public and you're carrying a dragonball... just hide it, okay?io9 ;D
