No Dragonball Movie this Year Source: ComingSoon.net March 5, 2008
20th Century Fox has pushed back the studios' big screen Dragonball adaptation from August 15, 2008 to April 3, 2009. On the old date, it was facing The International, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Tropic Thunder and Wild Child, while it is currently by itself on the new date.
Written and directed by James Wong, the movie stars Justin Chatwin, James Marsters, Jamie Chung, Emmy Rossum, Eriko Tamura, Joon Park, Chow Yun-Fat, Texas Battle, Randall Duk Kim and Ernie Hudson.
Dragonball is based on the manga created by Akira Toriyama; the work was also turned into a Japanese anime series that played all over the world. It tells the story of an alien sent to destroy Earth, who has a change of heart and decides to join the humans in their fight against various aliens and bad guys.Coming Soon

I think it makes perfect commercial sense to avoid the likes of Star Wars when there is no need to go head to head with big movies like that. It also gives them more post-production time if they choose to use it.

I don't know enough about Piccolo to say he's Spike-like but he seems to have much larger ambitions! And he's green and bald ;D Bad news, Dragonball Z fans. Your long awaited film adaptation won't be coming this year.
20th Century Fox has chosen to delay the film's release until April 2009, due to it facing massive box office competition from The International, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Tropic Thunder, and Wild Child. All of these films are being released the same day to battle it out, and Fox was having none of it.
This begs the question of why they didn't just choose a release date later this year -- or even move it up. Delaying it an entire year not only disappoints fans, but it makes the film look unfinished. The audience can forget all about it and dwindle away.
I don't follow anime at all -- and my only encounter with this Dragonball phenomenon occurred in a Pokemon shop, where the owner shrieked "Oh my God! Your hooded sweatshirt -- it is Dragonball Z!" It was just an ordinary Chinese dragon, but he was so excited that it hurt to disappoint him. So in looking this up so I could properly write about it, I learned two things -- first, what half the spiky-haired guys at Comic-Con are dressed as. Secondly, this has a very impressive cast that includes James Marsters, Chow Yun-Fat, Emmy Rossum, and Ernie Hudson. That is star power that can make a successful 2008 release, so shame on you, Fox. One of the other boards I lurk on has been flapping for sometime and everyone seems to be convinced that once Dragonball comes out, thats it, James wont do anymore conventions cos he'll be too big a star (and probably charge too much!) so this news is good as far as they are concerned - there's much talk of trying to get to see him this year as its going to be their last chance. Dragonball coming out in August would mean all the promotion stuff and appearences and so James wouldn't be free to do any conventions then - or afterwards if they are to be believed - so putting it back to April next year is good. I would hope that he would still do conventions - he knows he's got a loyal fan base, and who is to say Dragonball will be a success - it could turn out to be pants! And he seems to like meeting the fans...!! ;D ( I am hoping he does do one of the cons later in the year - as I reckon I might be up for going again....!!! ;D) What do you think? (course, this does gives me an excellent question to ask him at Grand Slam!

I think we've been here before. In the past some people bemoaned the fact that he wasn't doing enough 'proper' work and too many cons, now he's working a lot they fear for the personal appearances. If anything, whether it bombs or soars, it could open up even more con appearances, albeit in an area of which a lot of us know very little and for which the gals might have to battle through the adolescent boys to get to him ;D

From Stage 1 at CDS Edward French has little teaser photo of applyling make up on Piccolo but his face blocked out here for obvious reasons. www.edwardfrench.com/recent_photos.htm French DB asked French about work with JM on DB Quote: Edward French the special makeup effects artist of the Dragonball Movie (please visit his website here), has very very kindly accepted to answer to my questions...Thank you! He can't show Piccolo make-up, but he very very kindly says that: " I can say that it was a 4 hour make-up that I applied many times over a month and a half andthat James Marsters was a very pleasant and professional actor to work with. In fact, I enjoyed working with him more than any actor I've applied prosthetic make-up to. He was very patient and enthusastic about playing the role and I admired his work. [...] Publicity pictures were taken for advertising and i'm sure they will release them soon." Thanks again for the answer...and the picture! dragonballfilm.over-blog.com/

Bleeding hell, these people really have it in for James at the moment! First, dredging up the old accents thing, now kicking him in the Dragonballs! It's a 'click if your blood pressure's normal, give it a miss if not' thing - io9

I'm linking to Marsters Daily for the Piccolo pics that have hit the net recently, as that's most accesible I think. The poster has made some icons too. I reckon he looks like Gary Oldman's Dracula
