This is what Herc thought of it: AICN www.aint-it-cool-news.com/display.cgi?id=17404
Herc’s Seen One of the Last 5 ANGELs!! I am – Hercules!!
Angel 5.18 FAQ
What’s it called? “Origin.”
Who’s responsible? Teleplay is credited to Drew Goddard (“Lineage,” “Damage,” “1943” and the big upcoming ode to Buffy Summers, “The Girl In Question”).
What does Guide say? “Angel's son, Connor, who has no memory of his old life, shows up at Wolfram & Hart and a prophecy reveals that he's the only one capable of vanquishing a powerful demon. Elsewhere, Hamilton (Adam Baldwin) tries to strike a bargain with the exiled Gunn; and Wes makes a stunning discovery about the gang's pact with the firm. Connor: Vincent Kartheiser.”
Whoa whoa whoa!! What “stunning discovery” does Wes make with regard to Team Angel’s pact with the firm? It’s only stunning to Wes. Loyal fans have been aware of the pact since Tim Minear’s geniusy 4.22.
If Connor has no memory of his old life, what compels him to visit the firm? He gets hit. Very hard. With a large motor vehicle. A cop suggests his family visit an evil law firm familiar to us all.
What bargain does Hamilton offer Gunn? Does Hamilton offer Gunn a bargain? Did I miss this? Admitted, he does pay a visit … (Herc reaches for that rewind button).
Does Gunn accept? Does Gunn even have a clue as to what Hamilton is discussing? Hamilton has no problem with removing the magic necklace. Hamilton may remove it again. If not this week.
The big news? Wes has his memories restored. Even those involving the slashing of a certain ex-watcher throat.
What else is Guide not telling us? Cyvus, who’ll be back, could be related to that song-happy demon from “Once More With Feeling.”
What’s doing with Spike? “Testing her might be hard without getting someone seriously hurt,” admits Wesley Wyndam-Pryce. “We'll make Spike do it,” explains his boss.
And Krevlornswath? I think he tells someone someone else wants him. Not a big role this week. Hi Andy!!
What’s good? The versatile, versatile Amy Acker, who really should have been in that FHM top 100, and who looks very very good in blue. What I perceive as the references to “Unbreakable.” “It’s okay! Found it.” “Let’s be clear about this. I’m not a little girl. You and I won’t be making love on this couch anytime soon.” “Do you spend all your time making out with other vampires?” “This one is lusting after me!” Angel’s excitement at Stanford. “I built your son. I am not the sort of man you want as an enemy.” “Strange. There’s not much activity on the ‘Rescue Gunn Front’.” The way Dennis Christopher reaches to protect his throat. “Is this your 30 pieces of silver?” “Was Fred the price?” “I thought sunlight burned you up!” “Like the Pope has." Can I just say again how fucking brilliant it is that the series is set at Wolfman & Hart this season?
What’s not so good? Vincent Kartheiser looks like he’s about 37.
How does it end, spoiler-boy? “You got to do what you can to protect your family. I learned that from my father.”
Herc’s rating for “Angel” 5.18?
***1/2

I am seriously beginning to doubt Herc's sanity... or at least his eyesight! I thought he looked even younger than in S4! At last had time to watch the ep, and although it wasn't as good as I'd hoped it'd be I still really enjoyed it. Vincent was terrific. I was always one of the few who liked and sympathised with Connor, and how nice it was to see him relaxed and content. Things I wasn't thrilled with - Illyria is starting to get on my nerves now.... and her trailing around after Wes with bulging eyes is kinda boring. As is Wes, full-stop. And Angel eagerly offering Spike up as a punchbag, and Wes' emphatic "GOOD!" weren't exactly amusing to me either. What was going on with Spike's accent in his short time on screen?! I could give him the benefit of the doubt and say the wayward London that was coming out as he bantered with Illyria was part of him putting on his macho front; we've heard it many times throughout his history but this was his worst stab at it, IMO. And what was with her calling him a half breed? (a character in one of my fics called him a half breed once, but with more cause....) Does Illyria call Angel that? Stuff I liked - Trying to block out the accent, I managed to enjoy Spike's thing for his clipboard. And him screaming "Filthy tart!" at Illyria. I have a feeling It might like that, though. It was certainly enjoying the messin' with Spike more than I've seen It react to anything. Actual changes in facial expression. So the pet remark was quite fitting... but I had a nasty image of poor Spike on a leash like Sebassis' poor slave; not in a good or sexy way at all.... Hamilton - who is enormous! - telling Angel they wouldn't be making love on the couch any time soon was very funny! Angel's pleasure in Connor thinking he was cool. Connor's remark about always having liked older women, and Angel's muttered "They were supposed to fix that" LMAO! Poor brave Gunn. Connor being clumsy, like his dad. And him getting the old Connor look of badass just time to decapitiate Sahjann. The Orlon window thing was purdy. And I totally saw it as Connor having received his memories back like the others, but being able to handle them and doing the mature thing. His comment about learning to take care of family from his dad was so poignant I had tears in my eyes. I love how Angel is with Connor to care for (baby or teen); he is at his most likeable for me. And it actually makes me really sad for him

I actually came close to liking Connor in this one! Enjoyed the ep overall. Have to agree that James accent was hit and miss...is he missing ASH's imput? Gunn...so brave Wes seems to be unravelling, but can understand why with Illyria continually a presence by his side. Angel....I did feel for the man, so kudos to BB for making me believe .....shame it took so long for him to actually learn his craft, and I think the addition of James is a factor here....it was probably an 'up your game or get thoroughly overshadowed kind of deal for him....and that goes for the whole of S5, not just this ep. Oh....and who here wouldn't want Spike as their (well loved ) pet ;D

I've ventured into this thread tonight because I feel strong willed. Normally i don't come in here because I'm worried I'll "spoiler" myself but ......... I'm going to reply to PK's comments because, well, they seem interesting I want to have my say ;D I am seriously beginning to doubt Herc's sanity... or at least his eyesight! I thought he looked even younger than in S4! Did you??? I thought he looked older (but then I do have to wear glasses when watching tellie ) I've always loved Wesley but I have to agree that his character is kind of boring now. I thought that was hilarious! Typical Angel in my book. Agreed. Spike's accent is 'way' different from when he was in BtVS. What's up with that I have no problem with that. I guess when it comes down to tin tacks he "is" a half breed. Ooooh! I'd have Spike on a leash anytime and I did find it sexy (Okay, pent up frustration showing here ;D) LMAO! I though that was pretty funny too! I found that quite endearing and sad. I actually felt sorry for Angel. LMAO too! I love lines like that. So clever ;D My heart was aching So brave, so remorseful Cute IMO. I loved that scene. Very well acted. I actually cried at that. The look on poor Angel's face It was a brilliant way to end the show I thought.
