Mine isnt racism its annoyance at the attitude of a lot of refugees. They all want something for nothing and complain when its not a fortune. I worked with many former refugees and even they are disgusted at the attitude of the "New wave" (Their saying) as they were grateful just to be out of danger and allowed to work.

I think you know I wasn't really addressing my comments to you.
I am highly opinionated and politicised but I manage to bite my tongue here most of the time. Some times world events are so huge you just have to say something (like the Iraq business). But for the most part, there are other places to air political views of whatever persuasion, which won't cause huge fallings out here between members who have vastly differing views! We should be able to discuss rationally, but it only takes one person to drop a statement that could have been written by the editor of the Dail Mail at his most unintelligent, and then it all goes pear-shaped. My own biggest failing is being so intolerant of the intolerant, bigoted about the bigots, so for the sake of my health, if nothing else, let's not stray into those areas folks.

I never talk politics in case my head explodes Az - re. your selfish neighbours I am a big believer of respecting your fellowman whilst still being able to have a good time. If D and I have a party we always tip our neighbours off at least a week in advance. We then make a conscious effort to minimise the noise after 11pm. Most of the people who live in our street do the same (it's kind of our unwritten law ) but if, on the off chance one of us gets carried away with the moment and doesn't realise that we are being noisy usually a quick phone call or a visit sorts the problem out. I am very lucky - all our neighbours are great and we all understand that occasionally we have friends over and make more noise than usual. However, the other night one neighbour did have a party - told no-one and was very abusive when my next door neighbour popped over to ask them to turn the music down What is wrong with people? I wonder if it has something to do with the alcohol being consumed. I feel sorry that you had to put up with that kind of disturbance when you were feeling so unwell. People are so caught up in themselves these days that they really don't give a toss about anyone else. Like I said - I count myself lucky to have the great neighbours that I do - I'm never moving ;D

I've been nosing around this board for awhile trying to make up my mind whether to join or not. It seemed like a fun and friendly place until I read the last lot of posts on this thread. Is it common to get abused for voicing an opinion here? On the one hand it seemed fine for everyone to write abusive comments about the poor folk trying to have a party in their own home (perhaps you all need to get lives outside of James) but when another person speaks out about refugees they get jumped on. Therefore, I have come to the conclusion that this isn't the place for me - I don't like to be inhibited about voicing my thoughts on a subject. Moderation of a board is necessary but shouldn't be taken to such extremes.

That's entirely up to you, but please note the posts weren't deleted and I have reminded people that we aren't here to discuss our politics (see my previous post). There are plenty of other places to do that (and I do, for one). I am as guilty as anyone of going off on one, so I censor myself pretty heavily.
And you guys all live in detached homes, don't you, Toy? That is very considerate of y'all. A bit different to Az living in a flat...

Hmmm Yes PK we are detached so the noise def. isn't as bad but you I think you still have to respect your neighbours. I really don't want to fall out with mine - they look after Syd when I'm away (i.e. Sunday) ;D

[quote author=Guest-Kaitlyn M link=board=general&thread=1069893017&start=63#4 date=1081173133]I've been nosing around this board for awhile trying to make up my mind whether to join or not. PK, you can delete it if you wish, it doesn't matter to me... the broom doesn't hurt that bad... If this isn't the place for you, why not just leave? Why bother commenting, and basically insulting the regulars on the board? I had to deal with stuff like that all the time at work. People liked to complain about the way things were run instead of just leaving. As for the "abusive comments about the poor folk trying to have a party in their own home", one person's rights end where another person's begin. To disturb your neighbors with loud music and people, especially to the extreme that one member had, where her neighbor kept the party going until after 6 in the morning, is just plain rude. All of us here have had similar experiences at one time or another, and discuss them to make ourselves and each other feel better about that kind of thing. Yes, we all have "lives outside of James". Have you read the General Prattle thread? James brings us together as a group, but we discuss plenty of other things, including what's going on outside of the internet. On the subject of moderation, PokerKitten is the best moderator of all the boards I have visited. She is fair to everyone, while at the same time maintaining order. I doubt you'll come back to read this, considering your position, but I had to write this anyway. There are plenty of non-moderated boards on the internet for you to choose from. edit: Ooh yes Toy! You must post some pics of Syd! ;D

And a lot of boards don't even allow guest viewing, let alone posting.
You hit the proverbial nail on the head there, Cy. Some people have forgotten that we all belong to society, they don't even think about the knock-on effects of their own actions, let alone care about them. I would say it is my age that allows me to remember more considerate times, but as you are half my age that's not it, is it.

I actually am a confirmed Daily Mail reader ::snerk:: You are a sure reader of character Pk. I have thawed out now and I knew I was gonna get jumped on for being so intolerant and it is fully justified, but I was in a bad mood. Can I just say I am not racist in case I've given the wrong impression (feel a bit ashamed now, like I knew I would). All borders are wrong, the world belongs to all of us, but I'd still like to kick that hook handed devil out though. Please feel free to delete PK. Kaitlyn, you are wrong, this board is a lovely place, the peeps here are the nicest in the world. Don't be put off by some of our rants, we're all very mellow really. Lol at the neighbour trouble, our neighbour is such a nut, some peep burned his door down to teach him a lesson. He threatened to cut my trees down. I threatened to cut his bollix off. Everything is fine now.

It is... Ditto is so cunning she has distracted the neighbour with a hunt for the meaning of the word in a dictionary ever since, hence his being all quiet and good now And the guest poster can be put off if she wants to..... I haven't deleted anyone's comments on the subject, btw, only amended my own so as to be a bit more even handed ;D

I dont need to say much regarding this post as Cyrus has said just about everything I wanted to. (Thanks Cy couldnt of said it better) I for one are pleased that you decided not to join this forum as I dont like rude people, nor do I like people with that kind of ignorant attitude. It will also make it far easier on our moderator as from your attitude it appears you have no respect for rules and she would only of had to be deleting a ton of crap. As for the neighbour having a party that I complained about. The music was blasting out for just under 24 hours so I think I was more than justified in my rant, but of course rude people like yourself wouldnt find this a problem. Most of us have known each other from between one to two years and I think we are more than justified in been honest with our opinions about whats posted. The moderator pointed out why she didnt want that kind of topic discussed here. In plain English it means that kind of topic has the tendency to bring out the ignorance in people and you proved that perfectly

Heh, I'm just being bad! We seem to be discussing neighbours here, there and everywhere... but I thought you would like this - an email from my mate, who you all know by name, but who I shan't identify further so you have a get-out if the police come round: Oops! She's been giving him grief for a few weeks now, and as he has to get up at 5-00 to go to owrk, he needs his sleep. Well, we all do.... Anyway, he tried going up there and asking her nicely, before this one! Hotmail told me I didn't have any new messages when I signed in earlier, but I didn't believe them. And infact I had 10.
