Argh! Cleveland Con got going yesterday (Friday) and everyone seems to be having an absolute blast already. Lucky dogs at the cocktail party were allowed to take pics (we're not, at The Harvest), and also as the table seating was on a rota, everyone got a chance to gab with James - WAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH! To see some of the first pics and a few report snippets, go to www.forums4fans.com/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic&f=6&t=001232&p=8 Pages 8, 9 and 10 give most details..... If anyone has any more pics and reports, do post them or give a link to them here ;D

Somemore news from Crystal, on the BAPS list...
From: "Crystal" <acristleo@earthlink.net> Subject: Cocktail party highlights
Just a couple of highlights from last evening's cocktail party before I head out for another day of fun;
First, all of the guest stars are the absolute nicest and most gracious people possible. Robin entertained us throughout the evening with his musical stylings, singing hilarious Buffy parody songs and some selections from the musical. Iyari is gorgeous in person, and is a pleasure to talk to. James Leary is the kind of guy you'd want to have around at all times. A lot of fun and the life of the party.
On to James Marsters. He came in a little later than everyone else did and God bless the man, I don't know how he manages to deal with us fans. The con staff quickly realized that they had to try for some type of order, and they asked everyone to line up to take pictures with him. When I introduced myself as being from BAPS he said "Awesome! You guys got what you wanted!" *Sigh* He spent nearly the whole evening doing this till he managed to make his way to a table where he started talking with fans. I think Bub ( who by the way is very tall and very pretty ) managed to spend a good portion of the rest of the evening sitting right next to him. I look forward to hearing her account.
After a while fans started filtering out of the party and on to other events but about 30 of us stayed behind and there was a bit of an impromptu Q&A. James talked about how the writers really wanted to portray Spike as the wrong choice for Buffy, but that we (the fans) just didn't get it. Queue the AR. He went on to say that as an actor he feels it is his job to do exactly what the writers want and how they want it, but admits to trying to put something more (more than evil vampire guy) into Spike all along. He talked about how he (James) had a really hard time falling in love with Buffy Summers, with finding something that he liked about her. He said that the chicken hat did it for him (to which one of the con guys said "watch out – now all of these women will be wearing chicken hats tomorrow"). He went on to explain that the reason that worked for him was that here was a girl who had just died to save the world and there she was just doing what she had to do without complaining about it. He also said that Sarah absolutely hated the hat and refused to wear it ever again, and that they had to move away from further exploration of the DmP, despite plans to do so. He discussed the prospect of being on AtS, and said that if he were to go there he doesn't think that they will ever put him in a romantic situation because it would detract from Angel.
More as I remember and have time!
Crystal
Yeah, we the fans didn't get it because of the way Spike had been written over the previous few seasons, subtly changing all the time to become an interesting, compelling and lovable character (helped by James' acting of course - they should have reined him in if he was giving us too much redeemable Spike for their tastes!). And then, Buffy turned into the "evil" ne, resorting to violence on him to express her self-loathing... now where were our sympathies expected to lie? And that is why the AR jarred so horribly at that point in S6 - it was completely out of character for the Spike who had evolved before us...
And as for no romance on Ats.. well, probably good, although no more punchbag Spike please... and it wouldn't hurt to make him happy in some way. After all, he does save the freaking world!! Oops, spoiler alert!!

$6k? Gotta be kidding. For that much you should be able to rent a house on the same block where he lives and see him all the time! Really wonder if all this money people are trying to stuff in his t***g doesn't make him feel like a, well, you know. Must be very strange to be him.

He has been known to throw up his arms at Cons and declare "I am a whore!" LMAO! But at least the money is for charity in this case. It wasn't to pay for him being there or anything. (And you said the T word and I may have to vomit! Lol!)

The 'T' word was only a metaphor. Could well think of other things I'd prefer in the crack of my...Hmmm, maybe I shouldn't say that here. Good to hear it's for charity though. Been thinking about this convention stuff. Sounds like a kick. So how much does it cost to hang at a cocktail party? Let's see, lose about 50 lbs. Get my dancing shoes out of the closet, screw it, I'll go barefoot. Quit smoking and use that money to go to one (since I probably don't qualify as a charity). Could be a goal to go for. I really need a goal. Saw the Dragoncon site, does anybody go to that?

DragonCon is massive and pretty famous. It's an annual sci-fi fantasy thing (and James, and GOTR too, will be there htis year). I do know folks who are going but no-one from here as far as I know....
There is a vid clip just bugging to be downloaded, showing James at Cleveland Con yesterday being presented with scrapbook and stuff to do with the charity fundraising that spun out of the Variety ad campaign. Trouble is, everyone is having problems doing it, all scrambling at once, so it is unavailable right now. When things settle down I shall post a link.

Jeez. Don't know if my system can do a vid clip. Guess I'll find out. Don't seem to do any sci-fi things around here, at least not with James attending as I've checked his appearance schedule, which is why I should find out 'how' to do one, do one, and then def meet the man without having to buy expensive pics and tickets! Keep reading about how tiny he is. Just how so? 5'10 isn't too bad unless that means he's wearing 6" boot heals to make him so. Do have this stupid fetish about someone having to be at least as tall as me with 3" heels. Just better for my legs than flats.

More fabulous pics from the Con - www.forums4fans.com/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic&f=6&t=001242*faints* I am picking up some stuff about comments he made about his future career, and how his manager is mad at him over turning some stuff down.... I would be too on the face of it. I'll investigate more and hopefully have news got Actor James later (after work - grrr!)

Slayerchick is very kindly letting me bring over the Jamesy parts of her Con report, originally posted at Marsters Mobsters ;D James came on a little late, but it was all worth it. I swear, as he walked into the room the temperature went up 10 degrees. The Flashbulbs alone could have lit most of Cleveland. He was absolutely fricking gorgeous. His hair was gelled back and teh roots were beginning to show. SHe wore his tan T-shirt under a beautiful worn black leather jacket. His jeans were nicely worn and he had sneakers on. No nailpolish.
I am sorry to say that I can't remember every question and I might not remember which day some of the questions were, but I'll do my best.
The quilt - You'll really have to ask Spicy for great detail, because he looked directly into her eyes the ENTIRE time while she gave it to him. He really looked greatful and flattered - there was even head tiltage. Spicy really will have to fill you all in on it completely.
The sock - Someone asked how big the sock was. After laughing, he said not enormous, but bigger than average - and no, it would not be for sale on ebay.
Star Wars - He said he is not activlely in talks for the new Star Wars movie, however, they did coem to talk to him about Episode I before it filmed saying that George Lucas and especially his daughter were fans.
Up next- He said his agents are kind of mad at him right now because he just turned down one job and he's pretty sure he'll turn down another soon, but he really wants to play with tthe band this summer.
His ego - He says he ever goes on the web becasue once he went on and read all the great stuff about him and his ego started to swell, so he decided then he jsut couldn't let that happen, but he does love that there are so many people out there that show their love and support. He really is a humble man. EVERy time someone said something nice about him he got an almost shy look on his face. He really appreciates every good thing we say about him.
God, I know there were a ton of question, but now I'm drawing a blank. Hopefully everyone else will remember.
The autograph session was great. He really took the time to shake every fans hand and try to talk to them a bit. It was really touching that he made eye contact the entire time with everyone. He really just didn't take his eyes off you. He really knows how to make a person feel special. I was so nervous, I'm sure I sounded like a complete idiot, but I asked him if he liked the quilt. He said it really was amazing and he couldn't wait to get a better look at it. Oh, and he called my Luv - even though the REAL Luv told me after that I should have pointed her out at the point, I was just to exited that the man actually talked to me to even think straight. He really was just wonderful, but I'm glad we got two autographs, because I was able to be much calmer the second time around.
As with Saturday, James cam onstage with an onslaught of applause and flashes. He was wearing a black Tshirt-one he said was from the show- the same black leather jacket and really nicely worn jeans. This time, the shirt was short enough that when he was getting really animated and moving his arms while speaking it rode up and revealed that beautiful belly hair of his.
He talked about SHakespeare for a while and even did some from, I believe, The Tempest.
Angel - he said that the Angel deal is not final. There is a mone issue. He does not want to be a guest star because he has to dye his hair and it causes him to miss out on other parts so he only can go if he is a regular cast member. They are just not sire the WB can fork over enough money to add on another full times cast member though. The ausience joked that they could lose Connor to get him, but personally I think that ditching Angel and adding Spike would be the best solution.
Star Trek - He said the villian in Star Trek Nemisis was written with him in mind, but he was told to read for it without the English accent and he lost the role because Patrick Stewart wanted and English actor.
Fame- When asked what the thing he misses most about his pre celebrity day, he said that he missed beign able to have a bad day. He said it was great when he was in a good mood and could be with the fans, but he feels bad that when he's having a bad day and wants to be alone people think he's a "dickhead" for not wanting to be around. I felt so bad when he said that. I can't imagine having people expect you to always be in a good mood just to satisfy them.
Again, the autographs were great. Per Luv's suggestion, I thanked him for my friends. I told him that because of our common interest in him I have so many great friends now that mean so much to me. He just looked at me with those wonderful eyes and said he was glad because that's what he wanted as an artist. To be able to do something that inspires people and brings them together. He also said that he understood that friendship because he used to go to Star Trek cons and make friends there. Yep, he really told me that he walked around with the phasers, tricorder andpointy ears. He said that's when he realized that being a freak wasn't so bad and he didn't want to be normal. He really does have this amazing presence about him. The whole time he spoke to me he looked at me and made me feel like I mattered. Did I mention that he called me Darlin'?
Lucky bitca! ;D Thanks Slayerchick!
