I wasn't going to bother posting this but figured if I didn't, someone else would anyway. ExWanda was obviously just at the same press junket as everyone else, is notorious for getting hold of the wrong end of the stick, and when you get right down to it this is stelling us nothing new. Oh well. Angelic Words: First, the good news. I spoke with Garth Ancier, the new CEO of the WB, and he says he's committed to trying to bring Angel back in teleflick form. When I asked if he agreed with the decision to cut Angel loose, he replied: "I wasn't there. I don't know what choices the network really had in terms of new programming. But I certainly recognize and appreciate the loyal fan base of that show. We've had serious conversation to do some Angel movies, and that's a definite way to go, as long Joss Whedon and David Boreanaz ultimately feel that they want to embrace that as well."
According to insiders, the movies could each focus on one of the characters, seeing what happened to them after we last left off--possibly because David might not be as willing as the other castmembers.
I asked Ancier if he thinks this will actually happen. "Probably...I think so," he answered. "I haven't had a conversation with the creative forces yet, but I'm hopeful that will happen. I think the fans would love it. The show was great quality, and I don't know the specifics of why it's back or not, but if there's a way to keep it alive for the huge fan base, that would be great."
I've officially started the I ¢¾ Garth Fan Club. Who's with me?

O, No! Omarosa Graduates to a New Level; Plus, Spike's Rising Star and Eye-Opening Blind Items by Kristin Veitch | Aug. 21, 2004 (The artist formerly known as Wanda)
Rooty Tooty Spike and Fruity: Angel fans, you never cease to amaze me. Though the show is long gone, and we have nothing left but our anger at the WB to cling to, you've still managed to turn it around and do something positive. (Omarosa could learn a thing or two from you.) This week, I received my very first fruit basket from the fruitcakes (I say that lovingly) at Support Spike, along with a 12-inch-tall collectible doll that is making this a one-handed column as we speak--I cannot bear to release my kung-fu grip on wittle Spikey.
The fan publicity kits were sent to the WB, Mutant Enemy (Joss Whedon's production company), Fox Studios and a few press types like moi. Their mission: stir up support for a Spike-centered event movie or spinoff series.
And I have only one word to say about that--Please?
Now, the good news. According to sources at the Frog net, WB boss Garth Ancier is still pushing for the WB to do at least one Angel movie this season, possibly a few, focusing on individual characters. Since David Boreanaz is not expected to sign on, I'm told James Marsters (Spike) is getting "the most buzz."

I know there is a thread for this somewhere.... , so you can delete it, PK if it's already there.....just the little article in Guide...DB saying he won't bother with a movie for Angel, has to be proper movie or nothing....

Yeah, he said this in an interview a few weeks ago and it keeps getting rehashed in others. Although I am into the Spangel, we can have a movie without him

Yep, can do without him, but I think if push came to shove, he might find himself "convinced" to take on a movie....his career is not exactly skyrocketing!

Argh! Some execs really don't earn their keep. At all! www.tvguide.com/news/askausiello/050126.asp
Question: I'm pleased to hear you plan to ask the WB folks about Angel movies, but please, what we need are Spike movies starring James Marsters. So, if those WBers try to brush you off with a generic "David Boreanaz is busy," you'll help us out and ask specifically about Spike, won't you please? — Grace
Ausiello: As you predicted, WB president David Janollari immediately played the "[Boreanaz] has a lot of other things going on" card when I asked him for an update on the Angel movies. But I was ready with my Spike follow-up. "I've never thought of that," he said of doing a Marsters-centric telepic. "I had not thought about it. We always thought Angel would be the character the audience would want to come back to see. We may give some thought to the Spike movie. That's interesting." I can't be sure, but I think I just pitched a show to the WB.
Dickwad! Even if he doesn't know who the frilly heck the other characters are, there was meant to have been talks about a number of movies featuring them, so he could at least pay lip service to knowing what goes on at his own company

Shall we blame it on his being new?.....NOOOOO! It cracks me up how many execs know F-all about programmes people actually like , and think they know what we would rather see...i.e reality ...and more reality, interspersed with crap teen fare

No coincidence that the WB have been having a torrid time of it this season in the ratings and reviews! They say they have seen the light now.... Reality saturation may not have been such a good move afterall. And if you are going to produce teen oriented shows they need to be better than The Mountain!

Are they for real? DB is marvellous but it's James we want to see. If we get DB as well, that's bonus, but not necessary.

Lol, here is Herc's response: A Spike-Centric Buffiverse Movie?? Er ... I am – Hercules!!
We’re aware of it! So you can stop writing now! If you, gentle reader, are one of the 17 Americans who are not aware of it, here’s the what. Someone named Grace wrote Guide’s Mike Ausiello with this: I'm pleased to hear that you plan to ask the WB folks about Angel movies, but please, what we need are Spike movies starring James Marsters. So, if those WBers try to brush you off with a generic "David Boreanaz is busy," you'll help us out and ask specifically about Spike, won't you please? — Grace
Ausiello replied: Ausiello: As you predicted, WB president David Janollari immediately played the "[Boreanaz] has a lot of other things going on" card when I asked him for an update on the Angel movies. Some 900 Coaxial News readers immediately wrote to ask if I’d heard of this “ Guide” publication and if I’d seen the news. One AICN reader, we’ll call her “Marie,” asks Herc:
What did you think of the WB's comment about the possiblity of a Spike movie? They must have known there was fan support for it. Was he being stupid or just oily?
Whaaaa? Neither! “We may give some thought to a Spike movie,” he says! And I say thank you, Mr. Janollari! Thank you thank you thank you!! Can someone quickly organize a pilgrimage to Burbank, Calif., so that we may grovel gratefully en masse before Mr. Janollari’s lushly appointed office and groan thanks for his possible willingness to think about devoting two hours of valuable WB airtime - airtime that might otherwise be earmarked for an exciting two-hour “Summerland” event!! - to one of the most popular and compelling characters ever to grace American television?
Can we bathe his tasseled Italian loafers with our tongues, pausing only to howl gratitude to the passing WB programmers who canceled “Angel” but spared “One Tree Hill”? Can we at last be allowed to personally acknowledge their roles in filling the consequent primetime void with serialized marvels like “The Mountain,” “Blue Collar ,” “Jack & Bobby,” and “Drew Carey’s Green Screen Show”? Can we construct please football-field-size signage hailing “David Janollari: Programming Genius”? Can we assign massive Army cargo helicopters to dangle said signage over Hollywood Way from now until the end of eternity?www.aintitcool.com/display.cgi?id=19267Made me choke on my cappuccino! Really. It wasn't pretty!

Hee! Ask MattQuestion: Do you believe that WB ever had any interest in the idea of telemovies for Angel or are they frantically dissembling? I, for one, would be very interested in a telemovie showcasing the prodigious talents of Mr. James Marsters, reprising the role of Spike. I'm very surprised that WB claims never to have considered this idea as likely to be popular. What are your thoughts on this matter? — Carrie
Matt: When WB let Angel get away — a mistake if you look at the network's current impoverished landscape — the suggestion of possible movies revisiting the Angel or Buffy worlds was no doubt lip service intended to assuage the grief of Joss Whedon fans everywhere. (Didn't work.) And since Joss has for the moment suspended his operations, it's pretty clear that this was a pipe dream at best, but more likely just hollow PR from WB with no basis in reality. Of course I'd like to see a Spike movie, or series, or even just have him show up in an episode of something random. But I'm not counting on it.I think it's safe to say none of us are counting on it, but isn't ti good to see critics/commentators/reviewers still feel like we do about AtS, Spike and James?

And Aly too?! www.tvguide.com/news/askausiello/ Question: Tell me honestly: What do you think the chances are of WB doing a Spike movie? — Renee
Ausiello: While I have her on the phone, let me ask Ms. Hannigan: "That's a great idea. I just talked to somebody today who was saying, 'Why don't they do a Spike movie?' That's who they should do — forget Angel or Buffy! Do the James Marsters movie. That would be huge. He's bigger than anybody!" No argument here.

James has said this before but good to know he's still saying it.... Question: I think a Spike -movie would be great! — Teri
Ausiello: So, apparently, does James Marsters. In his first interview since I pitched WB president David Janollari the idea of doing a Spike telepic, the 42-year-old actor told my colleague, Ben Katner, that he's game for resurrecting his soulful Buffyverse counterpart "as long as I could do it within, say, the next four or five years; past that, I'm too old. Spike's a vampire, man, and I've got high standards — you have to believe that the guy has not aged since we met him. There's a little poetic license, but I don't want to get into a situation where the script says, 'Well, he was drinking pig blood and he aged,' you know? [Whatever Joss Whedon wrote] would be funnier than that — it would be delightful — but it would be taking away the coolest thing about a vampire, which is that he's iconic... he does not change." OK, Mr. Janollari — the ball is in your court.
