How nice to be able to open a shiny new thread in this section ;D As posted on James' site: JAMES TO CO-STAR IN FEATURE ADAPTATION OF “P.S. I LOVE YOU”
JAMES MARSTERS has been set as a co-lead in the feature film “P.S. I Love You” for Alcon Entertainment. The film stars Hillary Swank, Kathy Bates, Gerald Butler, Lisa Kudrow and Gina Gershon. James will portray the role of ‘John’, the best friend and partner of Gerald Butler’s character.
The film is based on the novel by Cecilia Ahern and will be directed by Richard LaGravenese. The picture centers on a widow whose life is rejuvenated when letters left by her husband send her on a series of adventures. Production will begin mid-October. The film will be distributed by Warner Bros.
There have been a lot of ads for the book on UK lately, and it has been riding high in the charts

I know movies sometimes veer away from the books on which they are based, but info on the book gives us something to get our teeth into until we know about the film I know CeciliaA is growing in popularity all the time, and this was her first novel. I've seen her on a couple of book review shows and she is pretty funny in real life too. Cosmopolitan said:
‘A sensational debut novel that proves true love never dies.’ A young married couple, Holly and Gerry, have a joke between them: If anything ever happened to him, he’d have to write her a list or else she’d never be able to cope without him. “The List” grew to encompass advice for any eventuality, a joke all their friends shared. When Gerry’s severe headache is diagnosed as brain cancer and Holly tragically loses him in a few short months, she is devastated and unmoored. She hasn’t just lost her husband, she’s lost her very identity. And then it arrives: a package marked “The List.” Gerry has kept his promise, and inside this package are ten envelopes to be opened over a period of ten months. Each letter offers specific instructions to guide Holly through grief, and ultimately grant her permission to return to life. Of course each letter ends with PS, I Love You. The novel includes a cast of raucously funny and memorable characters, including Holly’s best friends and four siblings who range in personality from the pink-haired world traveler Ciara to stick-in-the-mud Richard. Set in Ireland, the book has a wonderful Irish atmosphere reminiscent of Maeve Binchy and Marian Keyes. PS, I LOVE YOU is a warm, witty, heartfelt and romantic story about the blessings of friendship, family and the eternal nature of true love.

And the synopsis from her own site:
Some people wait their whole lives to find their soul mates. But not Holly and Gerry.
Childhood sweethearts, they could finish each other's sentences and even when they fought, they laughed. No one could imagine Holly and Gerry without each other.
Until the unthinkable happens. Gerry's death devastates Holly. But as her 30th birthday looms, Gerry comes back to her. He's left her a bundle of notes, gently guiding Holly into her new life without him, each note signed "P.S. I Love You."
As the notes are gradually opened, and as the year unfolds, Holly is both cheered up and challenged. The man who knows her better than anyone sets out to teach her that life goes on. With some help from her friends, and her noisy and loving family, Holly finds herself laughing, crying, singing, dancing - and being braver than ever before.
Life is for living, she realises - but it always helps if there's an angel watching over you.

Would you have been tempted yourself, teebs? There's that little matter of a passport... Yes, good that the timing was as it was as you can just see what could have happened. I guess it's for charity an' all, but background artists have their pride and might ban the winner from their canteen ;D (Okay, I've watched too much Extras ;D)

Apparently he goes by both first names; silly boy! He looks just like I reckon Gerry should, even just from book reviews - looks like he has a sense of humour, and is easy on the eye for a dead guy ;D IMDB

Strikes me that sales of kleenex may rocket when this hits the theatres. Gotta love material that makes yo laugh and cry at the same time. I remember when Fried Green Tomatoes was on release, they gave out little packets of tissues as a promo when you bought your tickets ;D So, John was Gerry's bestest friend; he's 33, he's married to Sharon and they are having a baby (a boy). Who won't be able to stop themselves reading the book to find out more?

Okay, you got me! I had an order pending with Amazon anyway so I went and added it last night I think it's the kind of book that I could get through these days, what with my diminishing concentration spans an'all; especially as it's so character driven. I think it was one of R&J's summer book club reads last year and I remember going awwww when it was reviewed and Cecilia was interviewed (young, talented and pretty, the bitca ;D). Although in the past it wouldn't really have been my first choice of reading material.
