No he most certainly didn't! Way back, when the project was first getting a push, James ummed and aaahed at a con &A and said Cage might want a different type to him. But he had nothing really to base that on, as far as we know, and was forever fielding Dresden questions then as it hadn't even been greenlighted. *** And finally the thorny question of the Harry/Erik name change is laid to rest, by the scriptwriter himself: Ex IsleIf you follow the thread there, you'll see Jim himself pop up, and some intriguing info from writergroupie re James:

It's probably a number 2022 casting choice- any role James goes for, he's bound to be the best and get it! I'm glad he's getting lots of projects lined up now, I was wondering if we'd ever see him again after Angel finished, and now Smallville and various movie offers...yay for The Marster!!! ;D

A few things to ponder. Steve left the postcard campaign info up at the JM site, even when other things were taken down, so I took that as a positive sign. I heard that filming was going to be in Toronto, but thought for a one-off movie that wouldn't be a problem. I'd love for it to get picked up as a series of some sort but that's in the future. However, I guess the producers and whatall have to plan for that eventuality, and if all filming was to be there, it's highly unlikey James would go for that. Too long a commitment too far from home. Arses. Tonight teebs alerted me to activity on the latest DF thread at Ex Isle, and I'm coming over all pessimistic now. Jim Butcher has jumpd in to wave the James flag, but is also tempering his lovely posts with reasons why it may not happen, and you can't help think.... *looks glum* Go check it out. However, I don't think Jim is right in implying that James would rather be available for a Spike gig or anything else Joss-related than for Dresden or for any other work. We know how far off anything like that may be, afterall. And James isn't one to hang around forever on the off-chance of a bit of work from Joss, it seems to me.

While there is still the faintest flicker of hope I shall keep this thread alive! *sticks fingers in ears and pretends James never said he was about to start filming a little movie, a thriller, in November* *takes them out again because, you know, in my fevered brain you could stretch a point and describe Dresden that way* So here is a fun review of the movie script - Ain't It Cool, and you may want to scroll down and read some of the feedback and the James For Harry talk!

Well, they found a director just the other day; and the movie is scheduled to start filming on 28th November. Doesn't sound like a lot of preparation time but hey, what do I know. Not looking good, what with JM filming Shadow Puppets for about 5 weeks (not to mention Steve saying at W&Mthey hadn't been contacted about the role as yet.

WAHHHHH This is Paul Blackthorne He played Stephen Saunders in '24', and has had various roles in British including Plastic Surgeon Guy Morton in Holby City, and there was some talk of him being the next James Bond..but then that list included the world and his wife ;D He s 6' 5", so I guess they went with the height thing

Poor misguided cretins. The height thing is the least interesting thing about Harry, for feck's sakes.
I'm sorry, but I won't be putting myself out to find ways of seeing this, as much as I love Harry. If it is miraculously made easy for me, I'll give it a look, but I don't think that will happen.

If it appears on here I'll watch because love the character, but as you say, won't be breaking my butt to search for it Still, putting a brave face on things, we may get a new album and another visit to our shores next year

Well, the visit won't be any use to me. I need him on an easy to obtain 22 part series, tsk. I can imagine Sky buying the DF pilot, so again, no good to me. I'll have to stick to the books and audio.

I thought it was a Sci-Fi channel thing ? We get the Sci-Fi channel , but again I think you need Sky to be able to watch .
I'm thinking after JM bumped up WBs ratings , he'll be back on Smallville S6 ;D

Yes, Sci-Fi is a satellite channel (me no subscribe), but its programming isn't exactly the same as the US, is it?

Oh dear, our man Himber had another gentle rap over the knuckles from Jim B last night (remember his comments posted earlier in the thread about his misgivings re the last postcard campaign?). This was put up at www.jim-butcher.com/news but has since been deleted (along with the comments from visitors who were posting in a JM positive way for the most part). However, it was also posted on McAnally's, and as such is still there. I can see how it would look like Steve had jumped the gun, and maybe he shouldn't have disclosed the actor's name, but hey, he was putting us out of our misery and calling a halt to the postcards (which will save people time and money). Oh dear.

And still it rumbles... although I wouldn't be posting the rumblings any more but buried within this particular one there's a telling remark: I'm not sure "coy" is the right phrase. My webmaster posted it as a "rumor" because, well, that's what it was. When I heard that he'd actually put it up on my "official" website, though, I asked him to take it down, as it seemed, to me, a little bit off for an "official" website to be posting rumors.
But my statement to my mailing list stands: that I wasn't really aware that the agent of an actor who regretfully refused to audition for the role was in a professional position to make announcements and release information about the movie. My experience in the industry is quite limited, but that seems a little unprofessional to me. Perhaps I have a skewed viewpoint. Well. More skewed than usual, anyway.
That said, I'm in the same boat as Robert, though another link or two down the information chain from him. As far as I know, no official word has come out, and I'm waiting around for it like everybody else.
*taptaptaptaptap*
Jim Jim B on the Ex Isle forumSo it would seem that James turned down the chance to audition (and as we've discussed the filming location and timing being problems, you could see why he might)? Although Steve said they hadn't heard from them? Oi. Oh, and without confirming or denying anyhing, RHW gave a stonking clue with his Lagaan comment a few posts up from Jim's, as Paul Blackthorne was in that, apparently. Heyho.
