I hear that James' Andromeda episode "Into The Labyrinth" is being screened in the UK again soon - Sky One on 14 and 15 May. Oh those jammies, and the wonderfully, sexily camp attitude! Here's a little something to whet your appetite....

He may be a bit sniffy about it now but it is a lovely piece of camp fun and there was certainly room to develop the character and explore his edges in more episodes.
Anyway, UK channel 4 have just started their run of S2 this afternoon, and Into The Labyrinth is ep 8, so we'll be seeing him in this jimjams again pretty soon ;D

I don't know about the rest of you, but by god Andromeda is a dire show! I remember whatching the first episode of it on a sky a while back and thinking that this is the kind of series that could put Sci-Fi back 20 years. If nothing else the costume designer should have been taken out to the back lot and given a good kicking, as the costumes look liked they came from an old episode of Buck Rogers. Hell, did you see what they dressed JM's Character in? I know the character was ment to be camp, but lordy, It looked like they'd got hold of Spikes duster in dipped it in a tin of gold paint! And as far as the script and direction went, well every five minutes I expected someone to leep out and shout ''Crackerjack!'' Yes it was nice seeing James doing something abit different, but hell, I wish it had been in anything but this dire bit of retro nonsense. Yes as you might have gathered not a big Andromeda fan here!

Nooooo, I would never have guessed! As a big sci-fi fan, I know there are those who will sneer at me for not despising the show. But it is fun! Harmless, fairly mindless, fun. And I love the camp costumes! It's the kind of show to have on when you are flicking through a magazine, and just raise your eyes when the music gets interesting, lol! Actually, I do it a disservice. if you watch a few eps week on week you do start to develop an affection for some of the characters.
Ultimately, there is no real point to it. As far as I am concerned, Star Trek was so deep, vivid and varied in its many incarnations that there was no need and no room for another series set on a spaceship ever again (yes Joss, that includes Firefly!). But I would still opt to watch Andromeda over a plethora of British soaps and reality shows ;D

Sorry, much as I despise reality shows with a firey vengence, even I would have to think twice if one of the shows offered was Andromeda. My god, it shows the love I have for James by sitting through such tripe, just to see him. Blimey the CGI work was (and still is) the best thing about it!
A couple of years ago at the very first SFX event in Blackpool I had my very first encounter with a breed of fan that uptil then I didn't even know existed....Andromeda fans! They where a very nice bunch, but I remember them telling me that they where in contact over the web with some of the original Andromeda script writers and that all the writers knew it was poor, but laid the problems at the feet of a certain lead actor who really didn't want complecated stories or anything that would engage the brain too much.
I still find it dificult to understand why Andromeda got such good viewing figures at the time, and yet at the same time Buffy did not. Sometimes I feel like weeping at the ignorance of some of the viewing public in both England and the States.

But the two levels of show don't have to be mutually exclusive, do they? And one person's idea of ignorance is another person's idea of harmless fun. Andromeda at first would have been carried by the Roddenbury name, and beyond that there are always people who fall in love with a show BECAUSE it is kinda poor, but plucky! Kitsch, camp, silly, whatever. The "so bad, it's good" syndrome. Did you just watch the one episode (or two, because of James )? Don't worry, if that is the case I won't exhort you to put your loathing to one side and try to watch more! But it would seem harsh to condemn a show on a couple of viewings - I expect the same has happened many times to Buffy and Angel. I'm pleased there were Andromeda fans at SFX; if I had run into them I would surely have taken a drink with them, but I didn't spot them! I'm not a fan of the show, but I wouldn't trash it either, because trust me, I have seen far far worse, both on and in the cinema. (Needless to say I watch very little these days!). And I can see why some people would enjoy its easy humour and spirit, hokey scripts or not. Btw, have you seen KS in Hercules? He seems to have carried over his acting style and philosophy from that show ;D

Don't mistake me, people can watch and enjoy what they like, is just sometimes it irritates me to when I see lots of generally good shows fall by the wayside, and some 'less inspiring' stuff so to speak sits on the schedules week after week! Especially when some production companies/writers are finding it so difficult to create fresh and original shows these days! I didn't first watch Andromeda because James was in it, I started watching it from the pilot episode onwards for it's first season, giving it the benefit of the doubt and seeing if it would improve in time as most series do. Well after watching subsquent episodes I have to say in my opinion it didn't! So apart for the episode JM was in I didn't bother with it again. Lovely as our boy looked in his blue 'jim-jams', it would have been nice if he'd been given better dialogue, something that didn't read like it was worked out on the back of a fag packet the night before. But as you say there's no according for tastes. ;D

Fresh and original... a startlingly revolutionary concept to execs ;D The freshest and most original programme I have seen in years is Six Feet Under, but if we are talking mainstream then I'm stumped. So, you gave Andromeda a fair crack of the whip and didn't form a bond. Fair enough... to be honest, I watched most of the first season on C4 (I don't have Demon Sky) and I still don't remember most of the character names ;D They go by "The Blue One", "The Little Cheeky One", "Muscle Man" etc etc. But none of it offends me. Can you imagine the character of Charlemagne Bolivar in the writing hands of someone like Drew Goddard?! Now that would be good ! ;D I'd like to think the Andromeda writers used the back of an envelope, maybe from a utility bill, rather than a fag packet.... hey, I can dream ;D

Ah yes ''Six feet under''. now you're talking! ;D I love that show! Have you ever visited the official HBO website called ''The Wake'' it's incredibly well done. A true work of art! I'm not saying that every program has to be the next ''Six feet under'', but I don't know about you but I hate the general ''dunbing down'' of these days. When bosses are looking at ''Big brother'' as something to be emulated then we're in trouble! Ah yes the lovely Drew, he would have brought Charlemagne Bolivar's dialogue upto new heights wouldn't he!

I have, but not for a few months. Another program I have to wait eons to see I have always maintained that more choice in the form of a zillion channels actually means less. Cheap and (sometimes) cheerful is the order of the day. Maybe we could recreate Andromeda with our own fantasy team of writers and storylines ;D Actually, respect to Kevin, but I can see David Boreanaz as the leader (I am no DB fan btw, but I'm sure he could carry off the role with a combination of some Angelus swagger and Angel moody).

Okay, been reading with interest about Andromeda and Hercules and Kevin Sorbo in general.....Hey Sue and PK! ;D I'm gonna give you my rambling humble opinion about all of the above.....but you must remember I am fresh from watching Hercules and KS was turned into a piggie...wearing a cute little leather outfit! ;D And I watched the whole thing....Hercules/pig philosophizing about the goodness of people with another little piggy...very eloquent, btw.....and then returning to his human form much the better for having been turned into a pig....now come on...you gotta love that! ;D I watch shows like Andromeda and Hercules strictly for the amusement....you don't expect to get intellectual stimulation from it.....I like to believe that it's my whimsical nature...but I think I'm just easily entertained....lol! Andromeda is scifi fluffiness....good looking guys...a neat computer/hologram woman, smart alecky computer geek.....I think you either get it or not....you have to remember I am an early Star Trek...Lost in Space....Battlestar Gallactica fan....cheesy special effects weren't cheesy then...you suspended your disbelief and enjoyed it... Danger, Will Robinson, danger...lmao....always wanted my own robot....and the clincher for this whole thing is, when I had JM sign an Andromeda pic at SFX, he said he was a cool guy...nuff said.... ;D (Told you it would be a ramble! )

LMAO, that pig episode sounds like fun! And with a moral too! ;D Lost in Space!! Gawd, how I loved that show as a child. One of my earliest memories (sorry M! ). I even dreamt about it a few times! Probably started me on my love of sci-fi ;D Yeah, I have heard JM say Kevin is cool, good to work with. I am still replacing him in my Andromeda Reflown scenario though!

Ouch, that child dig hurt, PK.....cheeky woman! I think that DB might fill the spot equally well, but I still like Kevin Sorbo better....be still my heart! ;D

There's a big ol' pic and and an interview with Kev in October's SFX, M. I didn't know your sordid secret until tonight, otherwise I would have mentioned it before! ;D
Did you know that they are filming the third season right now, and it has been guaranteed for another four years?! Hey, who is that screaming? Sue? Sue, are you okay?!

Well, he seems quite confident about it, and says there have been a number of changes and the show is improving all the time.

Ok I'm a bit on the fence where Andromeda is concerned. But def on the side of KS. I loved him in Hercules not seen all the eps but liked the ones I did catch. Like you M we got JM to sign a photo of him and KS in Andromeda at SFX.
As for Andromeda itself I only watched the one with James in. It was too fast paced for me and not seeing it before I was totally lost with the characters. But since then I managed to buy a dvd of Into the Labyrinth and watching it a second time found it a bit more interesting. Like M and PK said it's a bit of sci-fi fun with some cute and interesting characters. I could easily get to like them if I watched more eps especially the character played by KHC.
I also used to love Lost in Space that Dr Smith was great. I wonder what Will Robinson looks like today??
M did I see you say you saw Marc Singer at Dragon Con and he was still buff. I loved that film too. ;D
