This being the 100th episode, it is attracting lots of attention. Press folks who have seen previews have been reviewing. I think this is safe enough to post here, but don't click the link unless you want to run headlong into some wee spoilers As a milestone episode, this one certainly lives up to its billing. Everything is heightened, from the emotional narrative to the feature quality look of the photography. As an actor, Welling has come a long way from the first season. The episode puts Clark on an emotional rollercoaster, and Welling hits every high and low with precision. The rest of the cast turns in strong performances as well, with the exception of Kreuk, who has yet to come in to her own as Lana." Now Playing

I was surprised by how anxious I was to watch the ep! I thought it would be one of the parents, but I thought it would be Ma Kent before Pa. Actually I was happier when it was Lana . . . I can do without her.

Guide WatercoolerSmallville Even though the hype factor spiked to something like 25 on a scale of 1 to 10 regarding Smallville's 100th episode (you know, the one where someone close to Clark will die!), I really tried to be good and stay spoiler-free. But, of course, that didn't stop my inquiring mind from speculating. And I felt in my gut that the doomed one was going to be either Lana or Jonathan. And when Lana died, I just knew it was too easy. That first half of the show seemed like the recent Lexmas dream: It was all very fleeting and just not real. So when Clark begged his bioDad to let Lana live, I knew Mr. Kent was in trouble. After I finally accepted the inevitable — that Jonathan was gonna die — I became a tad bit weepy. Not so much for the character, but for the actor. John Schneider rules!
More 100th episode thoughts: - I actually felt good about Clark telling Lana the truth about his identity. Finally, I could breathe a sigh of relief, 'cause now she can shut up about how he lies to her all the time. Then, of course, Clark stupidly chose to relive that day. Consequences, Clark. Look 'em up. - The two Lana-Lex scenes at the Luthor manse when the Bald One was all broody and drunk over losing the state-senate race to a farmer, were perfectly and utterly intense. Just thank the master of mayhem, Michael Rosenbaum. - Why did the writers beat us over the head with these way-too-happy moments, ones we knew were just about to get shattered? I know, it ups the ante on the drama when the happiness is destroyed, but a little more subtlety would have been much appreciated.
Say what you will, but this whole major-character death did get some watercooler buzz. Some of my peeps at Guide Channel (my day job), plus friends and family, were all talking to me about it. And I guess that's a good thing in the world of . But still, it's not a good day when you have to say bye-bye to Bo Duke. — Bettina Charles

I've been thinking more about it. (PK, this is all your fault, I was perfectly happy not liking Smallville and then you made me give it a chance!!) I realized that Clark sees everything from the perspective that he's the center of the world. Its all about him. He believed that Lana died because she knew the truth, when actually, she was gonna die either way, except that the second time he had enough warning to save her first. Meanwhile, Jonathan could have had a heart attack later the first day anyway, but since Clark made the clock turn back, we don't get to see. So really either one or both of them could have died that day regardless of Clark and his self-centered, "its all about me" attitude. It makes you wonder. Do we all only see everything as though it revolves around us? I also felt like Clark was more upset about Lana's death than he was about his own dad's death. The evil stepchild.

Considering I had Boyfriend over? umm no. Though I did see the first part with the proposal. It's recorded on computer; will eventually watch.

Interesting BG. Clarkie is still trying to find his place in this world and feels alien often enough. Especially when he became yer ordinary boy at the start of the season and then was rudely thrust back into super-powerdom.
He knows he is special, if not quite unique, but trying to figure out how to handle that still makes his brain hurt, bless.
And yeah, I think every teenager thinks they are the centre of the universe, don't they? ;D

That's true PK, I guess its all part of teen angst to think that everything revolves around you. Of course, as adults, we know better. For example, now I don't think everything is all about me, I know it is!! ;D

WHOA!! That lived up to my expectations. Interesting that Martha wasn't one of the candidates for death, nor Chloe despite all the pre-episode specualtion when it first was due to air; whereas Lana, Lois and poor old Jonathan were. I think I am getting too sappy in my old age because when Clark made the engagement ring it could have/should have been gag-worthily nauseating, but I was going aw, that's sweet! Maybe because I knew what was going to happen, huh? I'm sad about DaddyKent but my mind keeps returning to Lex in that blue sweater, shallow gal that I am. GAH! Michael was great in this ep, and not just because of the sweater hotness! Tom, on the other hand, just about scraped through. He needs more scenes with MR to raise his game, I reckon. I'm worried for Martha, with Lionel sniffing around. And Lex just running his fingers up Lana's arm pre-scorching kiss was hotter than any Clana action we've had, so looking forward to more Lex/Lana. Nice use of music and snow, throughout.
