I'm really looking forward to this one ;D
WB blurb for the ep:
PROFESSOR FINE CONVINCES CLARK TO DESTROY THE FORTRESS OF SOLITUDE – After Martha (Annette O'Toole) contracts a strange disease and is given hours to live, Clark (Tom Welling) turns to Professor Fine (guest star James Marsters), who convinces Clark that Jor-El is the one responsible for her illness and the only way to save her is to destroy the Fortress of Solitude. However, once the two arrive at the Fortress, Professor Fine tries to free Zod and kill Clark.

Another ep description, this time from .comWhen Martha comes down with a strange disease, Professor Fine convinces Clark that Jor-El is responsible and that the Fortress must be trying to eliminate the father of Kal-El. But Professor Fine has an ulterior motive which comes to fruition when they arrive. And you'll find an episode clip at the same link Naughty Professor

Probably just because I like seeing James' name here, there and everywhere, here's another ep description: best bets
SMALLVILLE - Professor Fine (guest star James Marsters) tells Clark (Tom Welling) that the strange terminal illness that's stricken Martha (Annette O'Toole) is Jor-El's doing, and he must destroy the Fortress of Solitude to save her. (8 p.m., WB)North Jersey Media

Well, well...that was a fine how do you do! Prof. Fine goes bye-bye! (For now, anyway...) Yeah, it was a pretty good episode. Lots of James in it, which is always good. Despite of the one-dimensional writing style, James managed to make Fine a watchable character. How does he do that? Dunno, it's a mystery...oh, wait, no it's not. It's called talent! I was kinda sad to see Fine go all "poof" at the end. Call me twisted, but I was kinda happy to see Clark get the smackdown! The special effects were great during the fight scene--lots of niffty wire work. And I just never get tired of that super-speed effect --very cool.

Review of the ep at Squad[shallow]I've seen a couple of screencaps where Clark looks like he is enjoying the straddling fight with Fine a tad too much ;D

Guide's Watercooler Smallville Professor Fiiiine takes a giant leap in airtime and what does he get for the effort? He gets spiked! Ironic — yes? But you can't keep a big baddie down for long. I’m thinkin' Milton will be back.
In Smallville, Kansas… some cosmic thing zaps MamaKent with a mysterious incurable disease. You know what that means, right? There's a cure. We just have to wait until the end of the episode. But ImpatientClark is really worried because of Jorel's prophecy: Someone close to him will die. Mr. Gullible then falls for Fiiiine's line of Jorel BS. Basically, Krypton Daddy is a bad, bad dude. He's all evil and tortures people — including the peaceful Zod. Uh-oh. Something's not right here. No Zod I know is peaceful (and I know at least three Zods).
In the cave… Spike and CK get transported to the Fortress of Solitude where Clark gets ambushed and learns that Jorel isn't dictator-like bad, he was just made to look that way. It was all a ploy to try to free Zod. Hey, now I'm thinkin' someone needs to create "Free Zod" T-shirts. Who's with me? Anyone? Bueller?
Back in Smallville, Kansas… Martha's fine. Chloe saves the day and awakens Lois' inner journalist. We're hit over the head with not-so-subtle hints about who will be the one to die. It's Chloe! No, it's Jonathan! We were also treated to a cover of Chris Isaak's "Wicked Game" and a Superman Returns trailer. I'm sorry, but I dig the Superman comics; Justice League of America Saturday-morning cartoons; the movies (well, 1 and 2); as well as Lois and Clark and Smallville — Superman Returns I'm just not sure about. But I'm still trying to get over my Batman Begins obsession, so I guess anything can happen. — Bettina Charles

I wndered. This reviewer is very keen on Fiiiine as she calls him, and as far as I have seen Fine is so not Spike-like. Tsk.
I've watched now, and maybe it's because I know there are more eps, and that Brainiac is such a big dude in Superman lore, but it seems clear to me from Fine/Brainiac's oily smirk then his sudden *poofing* and the ship's *poofing* that he has just popped off to regroup.
Hurrah!
Kneel before Zod, you pathetic earth creatures ;D

4 stars out of 5 from SFX mag, and: A surprisingly strong episode that unwraps the mystery of Milton Fine - if a tad soon. This version of Brainiac is far removed from the comic strip original - no green-skinned, electrode-headed baldie here, and somehow I doubt he'll be trading under the none-more-kitsch nom-de-plume of Brainiac - but Marsters makes for a brilliant, underplayed villain. Seems like Milton Fine was only the beach-head for Zod.......yeeeeeeaaaaah

Yes! Another ep I'll be watching again and again. ;D And in future I'm going to try to resist watching just the James bits before we get the eps here because you have to see the bigger picture. Brainiac's been a very naughty boy. Or a very good boy, depending on whose disciple you are Loved seeing a wee glimpse of Zod whirling squarely towards us... even if his release this time was doomed. And everyone's getting their knickers well and truly twisted about the ship going *poof* You silly creatures, you can't get rid of an oily robot type thing so easily *evil cackle* Lex bantered and angsted and glowered by turn in great style tonight. And Lois was hit by the Daily Planet bug, yay! ;D And is it just because I'm spoiled, but could they have made it ANY clearer who was going to bite the big one in the not too distant future? Surly if nothing else did it the closing brief snatch of dread and foreboding music did?!
