More Ep 3 summaries, from bub at F4F:
In act two, Angel & Co. have Nina all locked up while waiting for her to turn into a werewolf. There's a character named Dr. Royce there, a "cryptozoologist". He talks for a bit on the process of turning into a werewolf. They observe her as she is pacing about in the holding cell.
Angel asks Dr. Royce what to do, and Spike pops up and says that they wait for the show. He makes some crack about it, and Angel gets annoyed, asking why Spike is there. Spike says what? He cares. Dr. Royce says that the transformation thing won't be pretty, and talks about how some werewolves injure themselves. Angel thinks they should tranquilize her. Royce says that will work for the night, but is not a good idea in the long run, and suggests familiar scents might help her. Spike gets flippant again, saying that getting her blankie isn't going to make any difference. Fred tells him he's being rude. Spike says the girl is a killer, and eventually she'll get out of the cage. Angel says no, not if she doesn't want to, but Spike ignores him and goes on about how when she's not a werewolf, she'll be dealing with all the guilt, being that she has a soul and all. Angel snips that it never seemed to bother Spike. Spike starts to say something in retort, but winks out, and Angel says he loves it when that happens.
There's a scene where Fred is grabbed violently, and some masked men capture Nina and shove her into a van. An elegant character named Jacob Crane instructs them on the phone to bring it around the back. End act two.
In act three, Nina is being chained to a wall. She's hosed down, and Jacob steps out of the shadows.
Cut back to W&H, where Royce is singing "Jessie's Girl" for Lorne. Lorne gives Angel a "he's clean" thumbs up.
Angel, Wes, Gunn, and Fred are still trying to determine who the kidnapper is. Fred thinks it's her fault.
Fred's apparently following Spike, grumbling to herself about how he slips through walls. She sees some vial that signifies to her that Royce is a bad guy. Royce stumbles in on her, and she chats aimlessly before hitting him with a lamp.
Angel grills Royce violently, asking Nina's whereabouts, while Fred, Gunn, and Wes search Royce's office. Wesley confirms that whatever was in the vial was calendula, which stopped Lorne from being able to read Royce. Gunn asks how Fred found this out, and she says that Spike led her there. Gunn finds a secret panel.
Royce is cowering on the floor, and says that he can't tell, it's a secret, this guy is not like Angel, Angel's a good guy. Angel asks if Royce wants to bet, and vamps out on him.
You can hear the screaming in the hall, as Gunn, Wes, and Fred look in horror at a knife and a piece of parchment.
They rush to Angel's office. Angel says he knows where Nina is. They show him the parchment. Apparently it's a menu.

Oooh oooh, this next bit is more exciting... I never liked Fred, but go girl!!!
Nina is being rolled into a supper club. Elegantly dressed dinner guests look on and clap. She's chained to a garnished serving table, and Jacob Crane turns to the guests, and says that in a few minutes, when the moon rises, dinner will be served. Act four:
Angel, Wes, and Gunn break in, using Dr. Royce as a front. Gunn says he enjoys kocking some guy out, even though he's all lawyerly now. Royce whines, and Gunn says he just better hope Nina is alive. Wes points out that she has to be, because werewolves revert to human when they die. (So, yeah, the people are going to eat her alive.)
Jacob spots them, fighting ensues. Angel unties Nina, and Nina says to just let them eat her. Angel tells her she's not giving up.
End of a conversation where Fred is telling Spike that she's going to find a way to bring him back, *really* bring him back. Spike looks at her for a minute, and then tells her she doesn't need to get dramatic, and composes himself.
More fighting, there's a standoff. Angel says they aren't leaving without Nina. Crane says he's willing to let his men die. More fighting, Angel gets shot, Nina transforms and breaks free. The werewolf kills a "trophy wife", and Gunn shoots it with a tranq before it can attack them.
Another standoff as one of the guards gets a gun to Gunn's head. Angel says they're taking Nina and leaving, and Crane says no, these are paying guests, and he promised them a werewolf.
The werewolf lunges up and bites Royce in the leg. Angel says to crane that in about a month, they'll have one. Crane nods and they drag Royce off as he screams.

Spike winking out whenever he is doubted by nasty old Brood Boy. Doubted about his remorse and soul searching that is... hmmmm.... Angel has to wise up and acknowledge Spike's redemption before he can be "solid"? Maybe? *shrugs* Wonder what Fred is thinking could make him "real".... And it sure seems like he can move around away from Angel's presence, like when he is helping Fred for instance....
Angel is being sorta not very much a nice guy this season, huh?!

As the episode begins, Angel and the Gang are having a Chinese food picnic at night out in the hills, away from Wolfram & Hart. They want to be able to talk freely. It's been a month since they got there. Angel still wants to know why the Senior Partners turned the LA branch over to them. Problem is, everyone is so busy running the company, they don't actually have time to work on figuring this out. They're also concerned about what may have happened when Gunn let W&H tinker with his brain, even though Gunn says he's okay. And they have the additional distraction of Spike.
As they're talking, Angel abruptly asks Wesley if he can borrow his (silver) pen. He takes off, the others staring in confusion, and then a scream is heard. A young woman, Nina is running from a werewolf The werewolf is about to bite her when Angel wrestles him off. They tangle, and Angel stabs the werewolf with Wesley's pen, killing it and causing it to revert to its human form. He looks around, but the woman is gone.
Back at W&H, Angel is orchestrating an all-out search for the woman. He smelled her blood on the werewolf, so he knows she was bitten. The have to find her by nightfall, because it's the second night of the full moon. He sends people out onto the street with sketches of her; the W&H psychics are working with traces of her blood to try to locate her; the staff cryptozoologist, Dr. Royce, has IDed the type of werewolf they're dealing with from the body of the man Angel killed. Spike is sniping at their rescue efforts, irritating everyone.
Nina, back at home, is feeling very weird and out of sorts. Her sister and niece are there; Nina is supposed to be watching her niece, Amanda, while her sister Jill works the late shift. To Nina, everything seems off. The light is too bright; noises are too loud, and she's getting visions of a hairy paw slashing her sister's throat.
At W&H, luck is changing for the better. They found tire treads, and it's an older model. Someone recognized the girl in the sketch and has placed her in East Hollywood. And then Lorne realizes that someone who's just been spooked by a werewolf wasn't likely to be paying much attention to traffic signals. Since W&H is networked into the traffic system, they are able to find her car and its license plate -- and thus her address.
Nina is posing while her niece draws, when she suddenly starts feeling and staggers to her bedroom. She begins to change. Amanda is calling to her, to see if she is alright, when Angel shows up at her window. Werewolf!Nina charges Angel, and both fall through the window, so by the time Amanda has entered the room, Nina is gone. Outside, Wesley tranks the werewolf.
Nina awakes naked in a small cell at W&H, a pile of clothes nearby. She quickly dresses, totally freaked out. Angel comes in and tells her she's safe. She panics and tries to run past him, but he grabs her. Angel takes her to his office and shows her video of her transformation from werewolf into Nina. He explains that the bite from the other werewolf has transformed her. He suggests that she may have felt some of the effects, and she realizes with horror that she had wanted to rip out her sister's throat. Angel reassures her that it wasn't her -- it was the monster inside. He tells her that he's also got a monster inside, but that he can control it. And she can learn how to control her monster too. Spike is still making snide remarks about how it's a waste of time and effort -- sooner or later, the girl will escape her cage and kill -- and then be wracked with guilt the rest of the time. He and Angel are arguing when Spike suddenly disappears.
Dr. Royce explains that the first few transformations are especially difficult, and it helps to have some familiar items on hand. So Fred escorts Nina back to her place to get a few things. When they arrive, Nina's sister Jill tears into her for terrifying Amanda and leaving her alone. Nina tells Jill to get another babysitter; she can't be counted on anymore.
As Nina and Fred are leaving, they are attacked. Fred is knocked out, and Nina is kidnapped. Back at W&H, Lorne starts reading the auras of everyone remotely connected with the matter, since it looks like an inside job. Royce, whom Lorne declared *clean*, is discussing possible suspects with the group when Fred sees Spike, who had been missing since his earlier disappearance. He looks particularly ghostly and dazed, and Fred, concerned, goes after him. She calls him, but he doesn't respond. He just keeps walking through walls, while Fred chases after him. She trips over a trash can and finds a tell-tale vial in Dr. Royce's trash. When the Doctor shows up, she knocks him out.
Angel starts interrogating Royce -- and not nicely -- about Nina's whereabouts. The vial contained calendula, which enabled Royce to prevent Lorne from accurately reading him. Royce babbles to Angel that this guy -- the one who took Nina -- is scarier than Angel. Angel decides to prove him wrong. As Royce screams in the background, Fred, Wesley and Gunn are going through his office. They find a secret compartment. They run into Angel on their way back. Angel tells them he knows where Nina is. Fred tells Angel they know what is planned for Nina. She hands him a menu.
At Dr. Crane's elegant dinner party, the guests and their host are eagerly awaiting moonrise, when werewolf will be served. Nina lies chained to a large, garnished table in their midst.
Angel and the gang show up, escorted by Royce. The gang attacks and Angel starts to free Nina. She protests that he might as well let them eat her, but he tells her not to give up. Crane's bodyguards get into the act, and it's something of a standoff. Until Werewolf!Nina breaks free and attacks one of the women. Wesley is able to trank her, but Crane is still not ready to let them leave. He promised his guests a werewolf, and they have paid extravagantly for the privilege. As they argue, Werewolf!Nina bites Royce, who was near her. Wesley tranks her again. Angel, realizing what just happened, tells Crane that in a month he'll have his werewolf. Crane finds that acceptable, and his men drag a screaming Dr. Royce out.
Meanwhile, back at W&H, Fred discovers a still- transparent Spike in her office. She tells him she's been worried about him -- where does he go when he's not there? He's not sure, but thinks it's the last step before hell. He asks her not to tell Angel. She says that she will help him, find a way to restore him. As they speak, he gradually becomes more solid again.
Angel drives Nina back home. She's safe again till the next full moon. As they watch Jill and Amanda, she wonders how Angel handles it, knowing he's killed. Doesn't he ever want to run off and disappear? He says if you leave those you care about, the monster wins. They arrange for Nina to come back to W&H next full moon.
Back at W&H, the Gang is oohing and aahing over the view from Angel's penthouse apartment. It's the first time he's invited them up to hang. Gunn asks him if he thinks he's got a chance with werewolf girl. Angel indicates he just might.

The trailer for Unleashed is up... and it isn't very thrilling, to my eyes! I guess they had to throw in the controversial voiceover about Angel once loving Buffy and maybe about to fall for wolfgirl, because they really didn't sling in any other hook there. thewb.com/Popups/Trailers/0,8204,133406,00.html

No-one has been very enthused about this ep, right from when the first casting sides came out. But when we only had fragments of info, Spike seemed to be cast in a much better light than the in "preview". I hope it's just the way they wrote up the wildfeed because he sounds incredibly whiny... I know, understand and respect he is scared but I hope James makes his dialogue sound less selfish. And such a shame - the sides led us to believe that he was really trying to help by leading Fred to the office. Now it seems it was pure fluke, he was just going walkabout I hope a US-er can reassure me after the episode airs that Spike doesn't come off as a colossal jerk... coz I worry that Hellbound won't be as stellar as we think if they are really messing with his character development again. S7 Spike was never this whiny or needy

Sorry PK, but I think he did kind of appear whiny and a bit jerky... but you could also tell he was scared, as he kept popping in and out of existance...

Oh dear I haven't downloaded the episode yet, but at least I had no expectations for it! So, overall what did you think of "Unleashed"? Was the weregirl4Angel stuff a bit contrived or did it look like a possibility?

Oh the weregirl/Angel thing wasn't much of anything... just a bit at the end with Gunn saying something about ooh weregirl ya think ya got a chance? and Angel saying well she gave me a look. Not really anything at all. As usual the trailer manipulated the ep pieces into making us think it was more than it was... edited for spelling

Well, being thoroughly spoiled I didn't think on paper it sounded like much of anything, but I guess it could have played differently on screen.. but no! Lol! Brought this over for Marilyn, although she could have done it herself Well, it wasn't Yawnsville, cos of course there was Spike....and didn't I tell you Fred and Spike make a good pairing....love the few fics that are out with the two of them.....but the werewolf has been done to death and even making this one supposedly unique by having it morph into a two legged wolf didn't do anything to liven it up....I'm getting a little tired of the whole Spike in trouble bit already....I hope they don't drag it out forever....I only read ahead one spoiler at a time and next week doesn't seem to improve his situation at all! So I can only say a soso episode with one or two redeeming scenes....in my oh, so humble opinion!

M - is your writing getting cramped or am I really going blind?
Well, I found ep3 to be so, so-so, as already mentioned, shades of Oz! werewolves have been so done, and done, and done. Running out of orignial ideas? And gosh golly but the female wolf was so Buffy-esque. And her dilema could have been solved with a quick phone call to Oz.
I find all this very ironic as I have been watching the S1 Angel and although I still don't find it up to par with Buffy, I rather like it.
And yes, Spike was 'barely' there but not as 'barely' there as what next week looks like.. gor...they've literally 'stripped' him again and there were all kinds of 'viewer discretion' warnings on the previews. Are they gonna keep him as a 'blond shiny toy' or allow some depth? I found his character shakier (deja vu of 'chip' Spike), and not just cos he was popping in and out, in this ep too. I really think they need to come up with a cohesive character plan.

Agree that Spike does come off quite whinny in this episode.
I hope this is not the direction that ME is trying to take his character to this season, 'cause if it is, that's going to be quite disappointing. -- the guy went and got himself a soul, died for love, honour and all the reasons, and what does he get?
Sigh.

I would agree jadea. But although some of the spoilers are alarming in content I think they mean big things for our boy. And his level of annoyingness will vary depending who is writing the show each week. Shouldn't be like that, they should have a plan and be consistent, but hey, not something ME seems capable of these days! Anyway, I just watched Unleashed for myself, and don't have a whole lot to say about it..... which is telling in itself, isn't it?! Lol! Striving to find bits I liked... Okay, I DID like the teaser, everyone all twitchy, all wondering just what in hell they are doing, all suspicious of each other. But Wes' crush on Fred is waaay beyond tedious now! And he seems to have forgotten how to open his mouth this past season or so and just mutters through barely parted lips And I did like Fred and Spike's interactions, all the way through. She sees through him - ha ha, literally too! - and calls him on his crap when necessary, but in a good way. And he gives in gracefully enough when she does. Surprisingly, I didn't find him TOO whiny, you could see how scared he was and how desperate, even though he didn't want to come right out and have a panic attack about it! He's still putting on a front most of the time to feign coolness. That expression he gave her at the end of their last exchange of the ep, when she was vehement in her support of him, was cheeky and sexy and straight out of "Chance".... a front. Of course it was! But the look she gave him back... I think she really "gets" him. Please don't let me be totally misguided in this belief! I also liked Feisty Fred, clocking the sweet doctor from Enterprise... er, the bad guy, on the head. She's bright and smily and bookish, but she knows how to take care of herself (had to, think Pylea) and sometimes her detractors forget that. I didn't like her way back in S2, but she has been changing my mind for a while now. (Didn't like her tazering Connor, have to say, but then I was on that poor boy's side!) Fred says something to Nina along the lines of 'She was yelling and furious but that's good. It means she cares". Angel and Spike snarking at each other.... if they didn't care, it wouldn't happen. JMO The rest of it was pointless and badly written twaddle. And poor old Nina, although a Darla and Buffy graft, was lumbered with being portrayed by a wooden actor. There was probably way more Nina nudity than Spike nudity in ep 4 but there were no Viewers Discretion warnings for this one... double standards! And the stripping, hosing and scrubbing scene was totally unnecessary, at least in the form it took. It could all just as easily have been implied.... Does anyone think Angel really WAS at least a little bit interested in Nina - it is hard to tell with DB's acting. Was he faking his hopeful puppy dog look at the end when talking to the guys about it?! He sure does look all pent up and sexually frustrated, more so than usual. Better not say more for the unspoiled for future eps! ;D
