Pluto says it's very hot in the club, so they've been imbibing Says that the basement vibes suit James and he's sounding really good. He was singing Angel when she texted, and she says there's been at least one new song (one inspired by High Plains Invaders, written in cowboy character! But beautiful, sung acapela). ETA - Seems like gig is over now. Rainbow is texting and dancing at the same time, I think ;D

Sounds great. What's this capella?

Post by nightnurse on May 3, 2009 23:07:26 GMT
a capella ... basically means singing unaccompanied Ditto , comes from the latin for 'in the style of the chapel' when monks sang without any instruments ( ooer missus) ;D

;D James said he hadn't learnt the music yet - he didn't do as many songs as the Union Chapel gig but I enjoyed it more - the club was hot and sweaty and so was James! Rosie gave him her scarf to mop up and I dread to think what she'll do with it now... I don't think James has ever sounded better. I thought it was an interval when he finished because it was over quite early - although him throwing guitar pics into the audience should have been a clue! Teebs, Pluto and I then briefly caught up with the others and had a dance - I only had one alcoholic drink cos I had to drive home from the station - P & T had quite a lot and Pluto didn'yt want to leave - we decided to catch the earlier train rather than the last one home - but left a bit too late and were unlucky wuith the underground - so back at Victoria one minute after it left We hopped on a Brighton train but ended up getting on the late train at Hove 2 hours later - so in at 1.00am - and I still woke up at 7! No work today tho thank goodness... Teebs was lovely company Pluto and I have really enjoyed spending time with her this weekend and are trying to persaude her to come to Hallowhedon * please, please*

Right - first apologies for not getting online - been too tired when Ive got in and then off again early in the morning for more James (been staying at my sisters house out in the 'burbs!) 100 club gig was WONDERFUL!! James rocks, BIG time. Just so so great. Hearing him sing the cowboy song unaccompanied was gorgeous - that voice! Ive woken up this morning singing a combination of Finer than Gold, All that She Wanted and Fall of Night - the 3 songs I love that I havnt got on recording anywhere. Well - theres not one song of James' that I dont love - just some more than others... and I had never heard Dance Slow before and he played it twice this weekend (James you SO have to do a acoustic album SOON!!) And I am now a true fan as I own a sweaty scarf and Im really really happy about it!! Will tell that story in full later (does anyone know how to clone from sweat DNA? ;D ;D ;D ) I have pics of course - not sure what last nights will be like - few good ones I think (my Marstersclass ones should be much better) but it was a rocking good night, even though the hardcore of us that stayed on to dance in the club after got booted out at 10.30pm (we werent buying enough drinks methinks!) and TrulyD and me were kind of jiving together at one point... Its been a fabulous, fabulous weekend - I have no voice again and am coughing from all that time spent sitting on London streets breathing in traffic fumes - but I really dont care. Its just been the most wonderful weekend.... JAMES ROCKS!! Love him so much! ETA - remember last year and Smurf James at Borderline in that blue light? Well the 100 Club produced Pink James - and i dont mean blushing! ;D Hopefully the black and white treatment will help...!

My report:
First off, thanks to DeeDee & PurplePauline for watching my stuff during the concert! And a big thanks to JMLive for organizing this weekend!
This will be my easiest to do first, so here it is. I arrived at the queue about 3:30PM. It took a while to get there because instead of taking a direct route from Finsbury Park (where I stayed with Hawera from CDS) to Oxford Circus on the Victoria Line (which was closed), you had to change at Holborn on the Piccadilly Line to the Central Line. I was between some university students who saw James last year at the Borderline and a firsttime guy who drug his wife there (yeah for more guys)! The university girls were complaining that "No Promises" seemed to have disappeared from his set list. The guy behind me and I talked about Status Quo and other English musical acts he follows (and surprised the he** out him knowing about Status Quo). We got let in and although I'm not a fan of standing concerts, this was 1,000 times better than the Celtic Blues concert.
Set List Vandals Looking at You Lay About Don't Worry Son London City This Town Civilized Man Poor Robyn When We Dance Slow Not a Millionaire Finer Than Gold All That She Wanted Too Fast Fall of Night Dangerous Angel Goodbye
at this point was a short break and I (because he could see/hear me) requested "No Promises" for the girls. James originally said, "No," but caved in from the collective sigh from the audience.
No Promises Moonshot Louise Cowboy Song For What I Need
ENCORE Katie The Truth Is Smile
One of his best concerts, and I like how he ended with saying that we should stick around for half-an-hour and mingel with the other cool people there. An AWESOME way to end an evem AWESOMER (my word) weekend!

*da duddelle dundedundedundedun* That's my Status Quo impression... I don't think it transfers very well to the computer screen ;D That's still a pretty lengthy setlist Thanks Salchi.

Here are the 100 club concert pictures of James. My camera is good in a low light but the lighting here nearly defeated it completely. And being a standing gig I couldn't get much variation in composition. So these are OK pictures - I had to convert them all to black and white and filter them. James in B&WMarstersclass to come - theres a LOT of them!!
