James Marsters will finally get to play one of the good guys.
According to DigitalSpy.com, Marsters, best known to 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' fans as evil vamp Spike, announced that he will play Troy, leader of a gang of superheroes with substandard powers, in Syfy's new series 'Three Inches.' The project was previously announced in March with the pick-up of a 90-minute pilot episode from 'Twin Peaks' writer Harley Peyton.
In a March press release, Syfy Executive Vice President of Development Mark Stern said, "'Three Inches' is a fun, smart, offbeat spin on the superhero genre. It introduces a new group of crime fighters who possess some imaginative -- if not all that super -- powers."
The show revolves around a man named Walter who gets struck by lightning and finds he can move objects with his mind -- but he can only move them three inches. He is then recruited into a superhero gang full of people with similarly lackluster powers. Marsters' character, Troy, is the gang leader. His power(s) have yet to be revealed.
Marsters' cred as a crime fighter will be complicated, considering he has a history of playing troublemakers rather than authority figures. As Spike on 'Buffy,' he was ostensibly a bad guy but really more of a schemer and a pest than truly evil. As Captain Jack's ex, Captain John Hart, on 'Torchwood,' he caused problems for the team when he tried to get back together with his former flame. Marsters has also played Brainiac on 'Smallville' and religious fanatic Barnabas Greely on 'Caprica.'
'Three Inches' has potential, since there is a long tradition of un-traditional, ne'er-do-well superheroes in the comics ('Ambush Bug,' 'The Legion of Substitute Superheroes,' 'Lethargic Lad') and on the screen ('The Tick,' 'Mystery Men' which were also comic series, 'Blankman'). It's an appealing idea, bringing superheroes down to earth. When done well, it can be great.
But there's also a towering heap of used tights from projects that were worse than their heroes' powers. Marsters' involvement in 'Three Inches' is a good sign. So is the fact that Peyton, who also penned the screenplay for 'Less Than Zero,' is writing the series. Fox Television Studios, which is producing the show for Syfy, is promising something a little twisted. So far, they're off to a good start. Squad

Some more info on the rest of the cast and what their 'abilities ' are ;D tvbythenumbers.com/2010/08/26/syfy-pilot-three-inches-casts-james-marster\ s-andrea-martin-stephanie-jacobsen-more/61110
SYFY PILOT THREE INCHES CASTS JAMES MARSTERS, ANDREA MARTIN, STEPHANIE JACOBSEN, ANTONY DEL RIO, NAOKO MORI, KYLE SCHMID AND BRANDON JAY MCLAREN
Alona Tal, Craig Eldridge and Julian Richings to Guest Star
Production Commences in Toronto August 30
New York City, New York – August 26, 2010 – Syfy's Three Inches has added an all-star cast to the 90-minute pilot, starring Noah Reid (Strange Days at Blake Holsey High). James Marsters (Smallville, Caprica, Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Andrea Martin (My Big Fat Greek Wedding, SCTV Network), Stephanie Jacobsen (Melrose Place, Battlestar Galactica: Razor), Antony Del Rio (The Super Hero Squad Show), Naoko Mori (Torchwood), Kyle Schmid (Blood Ties) and Brandon Jay McLaren (TRON: Legacy, Harper's Island) will join the action-adventure/fantasy as series regulars. Alona Tal (Veronica Mars), Craig Eldridge (Covert Affairs) and Julian Richings (Supernatural) will guest star in the pilot episode. Three Inches, from Fox Television Studios and Landscape Entertainment, will begin production in Toronto, Canada on Monday, August 30.
In Three Inches, professional daydreamer and underachiever, Walter Spackman (Reid) is struck by lightning, and develops a unique "super" power — the ability to move any object using just his mind… but only a distance of three inches. He's soon recruited by a covert team of superheroes each gifted with their own extraordinarily ordinary abilities. Together, the unlikely band of heroes proves that "super" is simply a state of mind.
Jace Alexander (Rescue Me, Prison Break) is directing the pilot, written by Harley Peyton (Twin Peaks), who also serves as executive producer. Fox Television Studios is producing with Executive Producer Robert Cooper, through his company Landscape Entertainment. J.J. Jamieson heads up television for Landscape Entertainment.
James Marsters will star as Troy Hamilton, a former government agent who takes Walter in to his own team of "super" heroes who fight evil wherever they find it. He is a father figure to Walter.
Andrea Martin will play Belinda Spackman, Walter's mother, a brutally honest, comically cynical force of nature that loves her son more than words can say and will do anything to protect him.
Stephanie Jacobsen plays Watts, a beautiful "super" hero who has the ability to shape the emotions of anyone she meets at close range.
Antony Del Rio will portray The Human Smell, an adventurous, often irritating teenager who is able to emit a pungent gas through his pores that disables anyone nearby.
Naoko Mori plays Annika, a woman who can duplicate and broadcast any sound she hears.
Kyle Schmid will play Brandon, the "super" hero team leader with all the cockiness and strength of a true action hero, minus the superpowers. He is the opposite of Walter and sees most of the team as freaks.
Brandon Jay McLaren plays Macklin Sportello, Walter's best friend, a big talker with not a lot to back it up. His relationship is tested when Walter begins to change, but he's the friend that will always be there for him.
Alona Tal will guest star in the pilot as Lily Theroux, the kind, pretty girl next door and Walter's long time crush who loves him but "not in that way."
Craig Eldridge will guest as Todd, part of Troy's team of "super" heroes who can see two minutes into the future at the cost of a massive disabling headache.
Julian Richings will also appear as a guest star playing Ethan, a man with the ability to communicate with and control the insect kingdom.
Be still my beating heart ... Kyle Schmid , another small but perfectly formed ex-vampire in the cast ;
