The official album launch! Although that does seem a bit strange with it having been available for a while now, lol ;D The surroundings and the restricted numbers, never mind the interview and the handing out of CDs by the artist himself should make it a slightly different affair to the first two gigs of the tour

Just back from Coventry! Taxi ride went well both ways, although we got a little lost in Coventry going there, but no biggie! The Guildhall is lovely and made for a good atmosphere and acoustics. NN and I were in the front row because iof the wheelie, although I sat in an ordinary chair for the first part of the proceedings, which was an "interview", with Lisa asking some good - and cheeky - questions of James, mostly focusing on his music (although she did mention fanfic and hinted at the RPS stuff which is out there, at which my eyes went very large! James didn't much rise to the bait, thankfully ). I had intended to take notes but felt it was a bit rude, being so close (a yard or two) from them, so probably won't remember much about this. I'll confer with the others on their return ;D As everyone will ask, yes James had been forced to shop and so was wearing a nice shirt - subtly striped, and what I would describe as kinda burgundy shades, but others tend to see colours differently to me! - blue jeans minus the rips and holes, and black trainers. And he was relaxed and seemed to be enjoying himself, bantering with Lisa and being naughty Afterwards, there was a raffle with some pretty neat prizes. NN actually won a signed trading card of Spike and the Shark (frok Tab Ras). There was then a short break... somehwat shorter than we anticipated, so James had launched into 'Every Man Thinks God Is On His Side' before me and NN made it back upstairs (via an exciting stair lift which was like a ride at a theme park, lol!). We had to loiter at the back until he'd finished, before then going hell for leather back down to the front! Back in a few - must have a tea break!

This is for Marilyn - I love James' voice! I always wanted to see him solo, after hearing the stuff back in the 14 Below days but he is like a different man vocally to then, and to the GOTR days. Pix will make some more technical comments about his voice, but I have many many albums of singers I adore who don't have nearly as good a voice (Billy Bragg for one!). And the emotion and depth he puts int conveying his own lyrics is very moving and satisfying We can't get the songs in the right order, but like I said, he kicked off with Every Man Thinks God Is On His Side and we also had This Town Katie Angel Smile Goodbye Bad Poor Robyn Patricia For What I Need Long Time No Promises Civilised Man... and Finer Than Gold - just written in the last couple of days and absolutely stunningly beautiful. He was quite emotional singing it, too. More about our favourites in a moment. ETA - forgot the encore of Dangerous Birth of the Blues

Lol, I'm finding it hard to express myself with only a rolly eye smilie and a kissy face smilie to be had! I'm happy you found it even better than you expected, PK... ....and I'd love to hear the new song As for myself, I sometimes find myself cringing with some of the offkey notes.... BUT....like you say, he puts lots of emotion and....himself....into what he sings and seems really pleased when it is well received....which keeps me coming back whenever I can.....

We've just been discussing if there were any bum notes and really, sincerely, if there were two or three slightly flat through the whole set, that was all. And they didn't jar or make you wince.
He isn't sure "Katie" works solo but I absolutely LOVED it! It rocks almost as much as with GOTR and is such fun and bouncy.
I adored this version of "This Town" and you really get involved with the story of it.
"Angel" and "Smile" are still faves and were jsut so beautiful and emotional. tears were pricking in Angel, actually.
"Poor Robyn" had been my fave from what I'd already heard from the album and was just amazing live.
The new song "Finer Than Gold" is frankly stunning, given that he started writing it in Leeds. So beautiful, heartfelt. We're all raving about it here right now.
His guitar work has improved out of all recognition and I was frankly astounded at some of the songs - particularly in "Patricia" and Civilised Man".

Its me Mistress Whiplash NN ;D What can I say that PK hasn't ...apart from the 'little' lost in Coventry ....I thought we were heading back to PKs several times during the taxi ride through the city..40 minutes to Cov...45 minutes trying to find the venue ! Oh and the shirt was hideous Should have taken it off altogether ! Faves for me were Finer than Gold...just beautiful, and almost knocks This Town off the top of my list ;D Katie was so much better than the band version...Dangerous was wonderful....and yeah...For What I need is sex standing up, but if he doesn't put Finer than Gold on the 2nd album (7 songs already gals it will be a hanging offence ;D

Have to say, that's a gross exaggeration. She doesn't know the meaning of lost in Coventry!! And she's wrong about the shirt too, it was fiiiine!
Right, after the gig we were all supposed to get our signed copy of the CD from James himself but it was taking so damn long Steve (just ask NN about her mate Steve, lol) came round and dished them out to the last few rows... Now, WE should have been amongst the first few out as we were in the front row but some bright spark thought the wheelies should wait til last. Grrr argh!
However, that didn't mean we didn't get our moment with James... oh no - heh heh! He was working the queue *dramatic pause*
My 'moment' was him saying "You were in the front row, weren't you?" And me looking a bit startled and wary! Mumbled something like "Yeah" - thinking, yeah, what of it mate, huh huh?! What did I do?! He said he could see me just closing my eyes and getting into the music and he was thinking yeah, that's what I should do. I told him well yeah, I'd always enjoyed his music. And he said I must go to more of his gigs. And that.... he needed me!
What I should have said then was - no, nothing dirty! - well, I would if you would just make it easier. But I was then grabbed and hugged and kissed (nice and moist, oh yes!) so couldn't really say anything, as I'm sure you'll understand.
Hah!

Pix here now... we're not trying to confuse you, honest!
"Finer than gold" absolutely blew me away... it's so beautiful, amazingly so... I almost cried!
Will write more fully when less tired and fluttery after all the lurve... but quite honestly, as a musician, I have to say that the whole thing was brilliant. I seriously think it's the best I have EVER heard him sing, and forgot everything other than the music, including the lusting (YES! I forgot about lusting, and just got completely swept away by the music, it was just such a fantastic evening, wonderful performance!) I seriously CANNOT stress how great James sounded tonight, and how wonderful the whole thing was.
Anyway, will write more when less of a flutter!

must say firstly, that i'm completely jealous as all hell for the kisses you all got ...
can anyone remember any of the lyrics to the 'gold' song which has captured so many hearts ?
the photos are wonderful, and i have to put a YAY vote in for the shirt ... dressed up is always better than dressed down imho ..and we don't see enough of James in button down shirts *drool*
its lovely to see him looking so happy, and reassuring to hear that he seems relaxed and happy atm
*snogs everyone on the board*

Meant to say last night Wil, but your pics are fab, really clear and purdy! A few tiny details of total lack of consequence. We were almost sitting at his feet so I noticed what said feet were doing, lol. So cute, standing with his toes pointed in towards each other; and then bouncing up on one foot. ;D And when he did the leg on the speaker thing for "Patricia", his jeans were runkled up on his sock, aw bless
