I think this means we can have it - if not, I'll grovel in suitable fashion! Con reports from Housewife, as originally posted at MTS (link given earlier).
Steve Himber welcomed everyone to the Concert and introduced James at 6:20pm. When James came on stage, WHAT A PRESENCE! He certainly is an Entertainer, Singer, Songwriter! Fabulous! He's so damn cute, has a beautiful smile and MAN, THAT MAN CAN PLAY GUITAR! I was so impressed with how calm and pleasant he was to the audience; and I must say, we had THE BEST audience. Everyone was in a fun mood and welcomed James with smiles, laughter and awe! He sang in order:
1. Every Man 2. This Town (crowd favorite!) 3. Angel (first song he wrote he thought was good) 4. Birth of the Blues (Again, MAN THAT GUY SING SING! YES! JAMES CAN SING! JAMES CAN SING THE BLUES!) Intense passion...you could feel what he felt as he sang this song; and Spicywings told him to stop apologizing for singing the blues (James still says he has no business as a white man singing this type of song) 5. Smile 6. Civilized Man 7. Goodbye 8. Bad 9. Dangerous 10. For What I Need (definitely a crowd pleaser!) 11. Louise (crowd favorite!) 12. Finer than Gold (James actually got choked up singing towards the end; very intense for us to watch him express himself that way.)
He sounded amazing! He moved about with his legs and guitar displaying his emotion as he sang. He looks delicious (hair filled in, nice black shirt, dungarees...even Pocket looked happy to be with us!) The Concert was THE BEST, his voice...timing...guitar playing...just rocked the house! He's quite the entertainer, did I already say that!? After every song, the audience gave him a huge thunderous applause, well-deserved and sincerely appreciated by him. He is so damn cute, sipping away on that water bottle in between songs. Did I mention how when he smiles his whole face lights up...making others do the same!? He's demeanor is so contagious!
The Q&A began at 7:15pm - James was very relaxed and forthcoming with his answers as always! I took a few notes to give you an idea what types of questions he answered and these are just a few:
Spiceywings of MM was the first to raise her hand and ask James about his sexual prowelness (sp?)...James replied it's an impression of him we want to have of him and still do (perhaps from BtVS, Season 6 "the flesh season"). (I'm sure others will post the exact question and detailed answer at a later date).
Spikemovie - audience members knew more than James about the Director/Writer of the project; now whether James was being coy or not, the audience felt empowered with information James supposedly didn't know anything about, yet. Yay! for the audience!
Milton Fine - James really likes working with Michael Rosenberg and Tom Welling. Said the few scenes he's already made with Michael were intense because James has to go "over the top" in his character; but looking into Michael's eyes when acting opposite him... Whoah! James is certainly impressed with him and Tom Welling. Mentioned that Tom is extremely intelligent and enjoys working with him, also.
Talked about his hair - he had it straightened and it looked much darker, but nice, had a slick wet look to it but much fuller. Made us laugh, said when we first see him on Smallville it will look like he's wearing a wig; but it's his real hair, just combed different.
About his CD - he's 70% happy with it; 30% of the songs he felt didn't come out right, the way they were suppose to sound.
Someone asked what his Biggest Achievement was: he replied quickly, "My kids!"; and his Biggest Regret: he said he hopefully didn't have any regrets; except perhaps he didn't brush his teeth in his twenties.
Favorite Color - Green, Mother Earth.
Any new material for another CD? - Ya, sure! Some of the songs he sang tonight; 2-3 songs on the back burner; has the chords down, working on lyrics. A lot of his songs seem to be about self-pity...is working on that.
When it comes to acting, do you use a visual technique? James replied, No time to use that for t.v.; need to allow yourself to release into the imaginary "house" created for the scene; likes dirt about...gives scenes a real feeling, even in clean scenes he knows dirt exists and is lying about somewhere on the set!
James talked at length about many different topics which I'm hoping others will post for you! I have a few left:
James said the pace of t.v. keeps him from thinking too much...he let's go of his intellect; the camera catches everything about you...
He was wearing a band on his left hand - speculation from an audience member, is that a wedding ring James? No! I don't need a wife, I already have two kids, what do I need a wife for?! audience jeers...and cheers when he proudly says, "Men can be good parents, too!" But then he shrugged his shoulders and ended with, "God, I need a wife!?"
Has a nice trailer at Smallville, has his name on a director's chair which made him feel welcomed and part of the cast, immediately.
With the role of Brainiac he has a very clear objective on how to play him...so he's happy with his acting gig.
No DVD of London "Words & Music" - Steve explained copyright infringement laws because someone asked James what material he has planned for London in October; he replied his material is from Living Playwrites, has his director and material but needs to work on the presentation of it; he's very busy these days but will be ready when the time arrives. He's looking forward to London.
Oh, oh...he said he loves Boston! loves Boston! Has been here twice, and said "Boston, rocks!" For me and my daughter, that was nice to hear coming from him.
My daughter asked James a question, "Because Smallville was pretty bad last year, and this being their 5th season, do you think you'll make a difference on the Show?" James replied, "Every actor hopes their contribution makes a difference, I'm very excited about what I'm doing, ya, I hope so!" Then he smiled and said to her, "...but I'll talk to you in private about it, okay". That moment was all hers...I was so happy for her. The audience laughed.
We headed outside, across the street to Joe Badalis, Overdraft pub. Dinner served buffet style, pub atmosphere. James was seated in an area to do the personalized autographs; Steve welcomed everyone in the line and handed the item to James mentioning our names for him to sign. It was written like this: For _________, James Marsters in white pen (that's what he used on photos my daughter and I handed him). What a signature, even that has style!
A birthday cake was brought out to him by a waitress about 10:30pm; we couldn't see his reaction... (others will have to post this for you), but we sang really loud...HappyBirthday...and he sounded pleased. It was cut up into small pieces and left at the buffet table; the cake was gone in a matter of seconds, but we ate cookies! (Another B-D cake is being presented to him after the Concert Saturday night. Tonight's cake was unexpected by us, the fans, but it was a huge hit when it happened.)
People are waiting for me to log off now...so I will wrap this up quickly...sorry, don't want to be rude to others waiting to post con reports.
James did not mingle, the evening for him (someone used this phrase) turned into an autograph session. He did walk about once (for what reason? We thought men's room (not sure, though; someone else will have to post; someone following him!) and just ask jwbea01 who was my witness to this; the line of ladies following him looked to us like a line-up of ducks following the mother; so I guess you could say James has "all his ducks in a row." He was very pleasant and kind to say thank you to everyone before saying, "Goodnight".
Spiceywings is one classy lady! She made me laugh, made me feel loved and I will always remember her and others for their kindness.
A very special thank you to Carmilla, Mrs. Tigger, ostile17, AngieT, deepblu, scooter who are the best buddies another member could ask for! They were always checking on me, chatting with me and making me feel like "one of them". A special shout-out goes to SpikesGurl4ever a nice, sweet girl who was having a great time being here! And, she enjoyed being with all the James fans, said she felt comfortable "with her own".
Oh, oh...I met vee! Beautiful, gracious, vee! She is even more beautiful in person and so, so nice; I love vee!
Well, how'd I do, my first report!? I'm editing this at 7am the next day now. Ladies, last night I had quite a "buzz on" when I was originally typing this up; just added a few things here and there this morning <snip>So, I can finally say: I saw and met James!
