I don't really mess with QuickTime too much, so that's probably why I hadn't figured it out by now... But my camera saves its vids in .mov format, so I'll probably start messing with that... ;D Thanks for the tip! ;D

Well, I just tried it with something in Real Player and I couldn't do it. Had to save the whole screen and then really edit that baby down.

On Macs we have this 'screen grap' thingy. With which you can just mask off any area of your screen and take a 'photo' of it. I tried taking stills off various episodes etc and it seemed to work fine.

Big big to Cy, cos now I've got a link to my msn group in my sig (though nothing pretty to put in it yet, ho-hum), and my wee avatar thingy, all thanks to this post! I used to know how to do all this stuff when I posted on SS, but, well, got out of the knack of it, needed my memory jogging. But I only ever COULD do the basic stuff. Cy, how do you get the different emoticons you use? Some of them are so cute... are they hiding somewhere, or do you do them yourself, and if so, how?

From Prattle: Hey Cy, the error message I'm getting is a different one from the illegal operation thingy....says an error occured and do I want to send a report.....I think to MSN?? If I say no, it closes me down straightaway, and if I say yes, it goes into another window.....shows a file icon being sent, and THEN it cuts me off.... Know anything about that, Yoda?? Okay, first thing... since you're getting that kind of error message, you must be using Windows XP. (Versions of Windows prior to XP say you've performed an illegal operation, but XP says "This program has encounterd a problem and needs to close. We're sorry for the inconvenience. Do you want to send an error message to Microsoft?") By default, it is set to ask you if you want to send a report of your error message to Microsoft. I used to always say no, until I found a way to turn off the annoyance: Right click on your "My Computer" icon. Choose "Properties..." Click on the "Advanced" tab. At the bottom, there's a button that says "Error Reporting". Your screen should look something like this. What you then need to do it change the options in that second box so that it looks like this. In other words, click the little circle beside the option to "Disable error reporting" and check the little square beside the option to "But notify me when critical errors occur." Then click "OK" in all the boxes until you get back to your desktop. That will solve the problem of it asking you to send a report to Microsoft. Now as for what is causing those critical errors: which program is doing it? Windows Explorer? (and if it is Windows Explorer... eeek!) Internet Explorer? (if it's Internet Explorer: Get Firefox) Outlook Express? Microsoft Word? It's important to know what program is crashing. It will tell you when the message box pops up. Are you getting one of these consistantly or just every once in a while? Is it the same program or different programs? The next time it happens, before you do anything, take a screenshot and sent it to me. Hit "prt scr" on the keyboard (probably right above the "insert" key) then open Microsoft Paint (Start -> Run -> mspaint) and hit CTRL V (paste) and save as a JPG. Then email to me as attachment. If you're not sure if you can do it, ask Travis to help you; I'm sure monkeyboi in all his internet porn ventures will understand how.

Lol, no, not porn. Just info of a James nature and it doesn't happen often even then (as I do that every day it is actually a pretty infrequent problem). Oh, and if I forget to wait til my inbox opens properly in Outlook (which I only use for work) before finishing logging in I get it too.

It happens to us at my parents' (well it used to, till Command Antivirus nuked the virus that was causing it to crash...). Or we get funny little error messages if we try running too many programs at once (oops... : . Funnily enough, (touch wood) I don't think it's ever happened to me on my laptop... even though I use it every day for long periods of time.

I use my computer pretty much every waking hour that I'm home, and I hardly ever *knock on erect cock* have anything crash. Of course, not using Internet Explorer does help, I've discovered.

Yeah... so I've heard, though I've had no problems with it. A techie friend of mine, Grey, who I used to work with, always insisted on using Netscape at work... though I think that had a lot more to do with people not being able to track what sites she was visiting in work hours. Not, of course, that either of us would spend Friday afternoons shopping for underwear on the net rather than working... *ahem*... (inserts blushing smilie)

Cy (or anybody else who knows about this kind of thing)... if I wanted to set up my own website (preferably without having to spend anything cos I'm skint : where would you suggest as places to start looking? There seem to be lots of places offering free webhosting and stuff, but I don't really know what the best options are.

ummm well I don't really keep up my personal web site anymore since I got my LJ and started using photobucket for my pics but I've used Angelfire and Geocities. Both have free packages, as well as ad-free paid accounts.
