I don't suppose we have an airtime to go with that date yet, do we? I'll put it on the calendar anyway.

Heres a quick report - (Im at work) Will do detail later!! FAN-FREAKIN'-TASTIC!!I loved it - and not just cos of James - it was so well done and even though as you say Teebs we know what happened, the tension and the drama was all there. It was gorgeous on the big screen and the seamless linking of actual footage with the new stuff was really well done and James and Danial Lapaine lip synching to the actual conversation Armstrong and Aldrin had to Houston. It was the ITV cut we saw, so it was only 69 minutes - whole version is 90 mins so hope we get that on the DVD. And now the gratuitous lusting... OK - James was fab - he makes a Grandpa cardie look sexy! And big screen shower? Just not long enough!! All that water running down and clinging to him and making him all wet........... - brazen hussy water!!

Sorry I didn't see your post before leaving Rosie ...but it was good to see lots of familiar faces , or rather everyone else saw faces ( both familiar and famous ), whilst I vaguely looked about seeing not much more than the back of folks as they or we were walking by ! Bill Nighy walked past us when we were out having a cig before the film started ...by the time the nudge and whispered comment ' Ooh , thats Bill Nighy ' had registered , I'd missed him and only saw the back of him Anyway, I digress ...really enjoyed the film , as Rosie said , it was the ITV copy of the film but the director did say in the Q&A afterwards that the film will be shown in its entirety at some point and on a different channel as yet unknown ...we did wonder about the scenes of Buzz with the monkey , but only after we'd left the building The director was rightly proud of the cast and crew and was glad to be able to tell the story of the first moon landings in time for the 40th anniversary ,and by blending the astronauts' own recollections (from autobiographies and interviews) with both archived film and dramatic representation , he really has managed to give audiences an insight into the difficulties and triumphs these remarkable men experienced . Will finish after feeding ;D

And there's more ;D The director Richard Dale, , and head of research Dan Parry were ushered onto the stage after the film ended (in double quick time and with remarkable efficiency as a small table , 3 chairs and 3 microphones seemed to apppear from nowhere!) to be part of a Q&A seesion led by Chris Lintott , astronomer and co-presenter of The Sky At Night . The very eloquent (and seriously cute) Richard had wanted to do justice to what he described as a unique moment in time , when the world watched as two men walked on a different planet in the belief that they would change the world forever . It was extroadinary that at a time when the US was still heavily involved in the Vietnam war , when billions of dollars and hundreds of thousands of scientists , technicians and support staff were invested in a dead presidents dream to win the space race , often garnering outrage at the waste of money , and being referred to by much of the African American activists as the white mans folly , and he wanted to ignore the controversies and focus on the achievement . Only twelve men have walked on the moon to this day , despite over 3000 launches of space vessels of any kind , and just four months after that first landing on the moon , Apollo 12 achieved the same feat , but was largely ignored and forgotten about . Everyone remembers that Neil Armstrong was first, and Buzz Aldrin second but very few will remember those who came after . There was lots of fascinating stuff about how they were able to make it look as though men and objects were weightless , especially on a small budget and RD confessed that they used an old Stanley Kubrick trick of blu-tacking a pen to a slowly spinning plate of glass and used a see-saw contraption with four heavy men on one end to make it appear as though the actors were floating . Looking at the meticulously re-created tiny modules (which were larger than the originals ) with knobs and dials rather than computers , with upright hammock contraptions to sleep in and wires bolted to the floor which hooked onto their spacesuits to keep them upright when they blasted off , you wondered how it was at all possible for the men to survive , let alone complete the mission ! Lovejames asked how they had chosen their lead actors , and only remembering the JM bits (natch) , he said that ' James Marsters , Spike from Buffy he Vampire Slayer, and subsequent Spike show (which we concluded must have referred to 'Angel' *snort*) was chosen because of his resemblance to Buzz ...not physically , although as he said , many very good actors can make you believe that you are seeing the character they take on , but because like Buzz , he was 'electric' ;D He said some other stuff , but I'll have to leave it to those with better memories ...but I do reacall him saying that they'd sat with Buzz and his wife and watched Moonshot , and that they had declared themselves to be very happy with the result ;D I won't spoil your soon to be viewing pleasure with details , but it's a fine docu-drama , and James steals the show as per ;D Of the 21 missing minutes Dee Dee , the film was commissioned as a feature , often filmed for a 2 hour slot , but including the time for several adverts which typically brings the actual time down to 90 minutes . ITV wanted a cut that would fit into their time schedule , but that the full version will be shown by (possibly )one of the Sky channels ..and I suspect that a DVD will be available at some point

I thought the director said James was eccentric like Buzz....!! ;D Director Richard did not look old enough to be shaving - but yes, he was very eloquent and pasionate about the film. I liked Dan Parry the research guy - fabulously geeky - what he didnt know about the astronauts lives isnt worth knowing! I remembered afterwards about the monkey too NN and also the version they must have shown on German last week was longer cos I know there was a scene of Buzz/James jogging and we didnt see that. I ddint think to ask about the DVD until it was too late. I really did love the film - I like ones about Space anyway - and it was beautiful on the big screen. Daniel LaPaine was great as Neil Armstrong - very enigmatic - very unemotional - you scarcely had an idea about what was going on in his head! And Andrew Licoln as Mike Collins - also excellent. Oh man - and I just loved the scene where Buzz was telling his wife about how difficult it was to do anything in zero gravity on the moon - it was James being Geek James explaining theories - arm waving and all! Brilliant! ;D It was just wonderful - loved it all. Cant wait to see it again!!
