But what day is that? Oh no, it's the day I go back to work Actually, it'll help me get through the day, knowing I have that to look forward to (albeit an hour after everyone else). So, it's going to be on Mondays then.

Unless you have E4+1 (like me) and can stroll home in leisurely fashion, grab some refreshments and settle back in civilised fashion at 10-00 pm For those Brits who still haven't caught S4, don't have E4 and have therefore missed it being shown repeatedly, it will be coming to C4 in Spring 2006.

Scan of an only teensy bit spoilery interview with Michael R HERE. Note how when asked when James will be back in the show he neatly sidesteps an outright answer, but the hint is in the run up eps to the finale (last 5 or 6...)

Oh my goodness, there's more Michael/James stuff from that interview now, at Guide's online site ;D cindy spotted it first: Guide Guide: When I spoke to series creator Al Gough before the season premiere, he was looking forward to the Michael Rosenbaum-James Marsters (Professor Fine/Brainiac) dynamic. How did you like it? Rosenbaum: You know, I didn't get to work with James that much [during Marsters' early-season arc], but when I do, it's amazing, it's electric. People don't know this, but it's very difficult to be a guest star. Imagining coming onto the set of a show that's already successful, where the crew is like a family and everybody works together....
Guide: You're "the transfer student from Belgium." Rosenbaum: That's exactly what it is. So I always try to make the guest star comfortable and say, "Hey, it's OK to mess up." But James, he's been around the block. In our first scene, I'm just kind of having fun, being the dark and brooding Lex Luthor, but as I start doing my lines, I'm like, "Holy s---, this guy knows his stuff inside out." I looked at him and thought, "Oh, you came to play today!" — both of us found each other trying to amp it up. We had lunch a couple of weeks later and James looks at me and says, "Man, I was a little nervous." I was like, "What are you talking about? You were so confident!" He said, "No, honestly, I was a little nervous working with you." Me?! I'm the biggest goofball in the world. It was like two football teams trying to show how strong and tough they are and afterwards going, "Hey let's go get a spritzer!" It was hilarious. I can't wait to see what they have in store for us [during the second half of the season].
Guide: When is Marsters returning to Smallville? Sooner rather than later? Rosenbaum: Well, we have about 10 episodes left in this season, so I would think things are going to heat up in the last five or six. We'll see what happens. They don't tell us; people don't understand that.
MR is a darling

Smallville hasn't officially got its sixth season signed and sealed yet. If it does, the luverly Michael does have other irons in his fire, but he's not exactly in each ep a lot as it is so I doubt they'd want to lose him completely to his own projects, and TPTB should make it worth his while to keep up appearances. No-one else could play Lex now, afterall.
But if and when there's news, it'll be at the Kryptonsite oracle. I'm a mere minion of Zod ;D

This is how the Futon Critic herlds JM's return to Smallville for sweeps: MARSTERS RETURNS TO BATTLE LEX LUTHER ON “SMALLVILLE” *licks lips* And they give him a huuuuge paragraph all to himself in the details of all th major WB shows: James Marsters reprises his role on SMALLVILLE as college professor Dr. Milton Fine, alter ego of the evil Brainiac, a classic DC Comics villain and one of the Man of Steel's most formidable enemies. Brainiac returns to manipulate Lex's (Michael Rosenbaum) obsession with the spaceship to trick him into helping free General Zod from the Fortress of Solitude. The story arc begins with the episode “Hypnotic,” which will air this spring. Marsters is well known to The WB's audience as the vampire Spike in the critically acclaimed hit series “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and its successful spin-off “Angel.” Marsters’ additional television credits include a guest appearance on the series “Northern Exposure,” “Strange Frequency” and “Andromeda.” His feature film credits include “The House on Haunted Hill” and “Winding Roads.”

Well, you brought a shorter version of the same info in spoilers. Infact, there's been a slew of similar pieces all over the place, more or less saying the same thing, so no point in posting those. But JM is being given lots of press, often headlining the articles, and with wee pics Not sure how I feel about being part of an army... Gal

"Smallville-" The Scoop: After the sub-par nature of the show's directionless fourth season, many were surprised by the current 180 in the show's continuity and storytelling quality. Soaring in its new Thursday night time slot thanks to deliverance on the promise of "everything fans have waited to see," season five of "Smallville" has featured the introduction of the Fortress of Solitude, Chloe as Clark's spunky sidekick in the know, Clark and Lana together and surprisingly angst free and the dissolution of Clark's friendship with the ever-darkening Lex Luthor. The addition of fan-favorite "Buffy" alumnus James Marsters as the manipulative Dr. Milton Fine certainly didn't hurt either. Why Watch?- With the show approaching its monumental 100th episode (set to air on Jan. 26), executive producers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar prove to be pulling out all of the stops with the confirmation that the episode will include an important "proposal" and a major character death. Small town murder scene Just as comics ramp up sensational storylines for significant-issue numbers, so will Smallville mark its 100th episode with a death.
Though the identity of the killee is being kept hush-hush, it's an opening-credits character and superboy Tom Welling has said "from this episode on, this show is going to be very different."
Smallville's been heading that way since last season's graduation freed the show from its "Dawson's Cape" holding pattern and they upped the mythology with the Fortress of Solitude, General Zod, Aquaman and Brainiac (played to perfection by Buffy's James Marsters). The fifth season has surged in ratings and acclaim as the plots thickened -- Clark briefly lost his powers, sorta died, got laid and rebelled against Krypton papa Jor-El while his adopted father campaigned for senator against Lex Luthor (scene-stealer Michael Rosenbaum).
Producers boast this is the year "the boy becomes a man," but the revitalization is really being fuelled by entering Revenge of the Sith mode with Lex living up to his dark destiny. As amusing as Clark and Lex's homoerotic friendship was, it's got nothing on watching the legendary arch-rivalry between Superman and Luthor finally ignite. Eye Weekly
