You'll get some frank opinions on the con in general and James in particular if you take a look at the MR forum itself - you have to be an signed in ezboard member to read this, though. MR con reports threadMaybe JM has been spending too much time with teens recently (although the youngest in the band often seem the most mature....).

I have read a number of reports - and some of them from people I know - saying he was as drunk as a skunk. You could say it's only rock 'n' roll, and he is a grown man who can do what he wants. I'd agree at an all out rock gig (like the second performance at the Crazy Donkey). Although if it made him screw up the set, lyrics, and he was shouting instead of singing I might be about wasting my money. But I think it pays you to be more circumspect at a Con. But ultimately, I wasn't there. I don't own him. His behavour is his to think about. He doesn't seem to have been too happy with himself the next day.... And I don't want to comment on anything else he may or may not have done! But as far as his Q&A, photo and auto sessions, I haven't seen anything anti.

right thanks for clearing that up! i havent heard much anti stuff, just about the GotR gig and some people saying it was great, others saying it wasnt. But i wasnt there so i dont know. When you say james wasnt too happy the next day, i wonder if this has anything to do with him saying he isnt a good singer

Ah... he was prolly feeling sorry for himself. I always do after a drinking binge - punish myself for getting drunk and saying stupid things by beating myself up about it. Doesn't help in the long run, but I always do it anyway! Haven't read any of the stuff, so can't really comment. But sometimes there are reasons people do things... and they're often very private and deep-down things that people can't and won't talk about... like getting drunk for apparently no reason, and stuff... but it would be wrong to speculate, so I'm not going to. But you get my drift, whatever people do, it's generally for their own very good reasons. Urgh. Counselling training is seeping out at the edges into daily life again. I can't help it, it's in my nature now. I even let the phone ring the required number of times before answering any call Hope being asked about his son didn't upset him. Thought that was a bit out of order, really. But hey, who am I to judge...

I kinda fibbed earlier, because of course, some people didn't like his political explosion in the Q&A either. Poor James, lol!

His rant was a violent one, there's no getting round that. Some people are offended by people with world opinions anyway, or being critical of their country; all the more so when someone is talking about mutilating the president.
Understand, I am playing devil's advocate here. In my own politics I am at least as left as JM, and on occasion go off on vitriolic rants myself. Personally, I would have loved to have been there, and to have witnessed Adam and Danny expressing their world views too. But I am also a union rep and have learnt from experience (and age - being 2 years older than JM!) that if you want people to listen to and understand the valid points you are making, you ease up on the abusive or violent stuff because otherwise that's all they remember and you lose the argument.

To be fair, the question was innocent, about getting involved in politics himself. It was James that chose to run with it and go off on a hand chopping off tangent. In the heat of the moment I have been known to do similar... but have to say, not in front of 800 people, lol.
There are plenty of interesting takes on proceedings from people who were there, at Marsters Mobsters, and MTS, among others. But I am giving up linking to reports myself now, because they are making my head hurt. Doesn't mean to say no-one else can though.

I wanted to direct you to a particular post at MTS - although there are plenty like this I think she puts it well and succinctly (there's a post on the previous page of that thread that had my eyes welling up, but I think that may be my damaged myelin sheaths talking . Anyway, kinda puts a lot of the more negative things that have been said by some attendees in perspective. Harmony87's post

I liked Harmony's post - I'm glad there are people willing to say stuff like that. Poor guy - how can you expect him to be superhuman? I think it's amazing he does as much as he does for his fans, and it makes me when they don't appreciate it.*Pixie shakes head* He's not a god! even if he looks like it.

LMAO! No. If he was a god, he wouldn't get blisters on his fingers during signing sessions, and wouldn't need nicotine patches. Pixie's simplified version of how-to-spot-a-god!

Hello. I finally finished the transcript of James' Q&A at MR04. I've posted it at morethanspike.com (and in the MR forums). Please do not repost it elsewhere. I'd like to be able to go back in and fill in a few blanks (unclear words) and fix any errors people might notice. Feel free to post news about the transcript and a link to it on other boards, but please be sure to ask people to NOT repost the whole thing. You can read it in the "James Speaks" section at forums.morethanspike.com. If this link works, it should take you directly to the thread: forums.morethanspike.com/index.php?act=ST&f=5&t=2766&s=989f29e5a9f4195dae25520dc785c79eEnjoy.
