July 18-20, 2003 Tampa Airport Hilton Westshore Tampa, FL Oh well, even if Marilyn had struck lucky at Harrah's yesterday we'd have all had to go on the waiting list coz this one is sold out... but evenso.... Sounds like it is going to be a goodie, with restricted numbers and reserved seats, and casual James... GAH!! No fair! Me wanna go! Vulkon seemd to pull off the Cleveland Con very well, so hopefully this one will be fab for guests and paying punters alike. www.vulkon.com/tampajuly/index.htmlImportant Notice:
Those of you who attended the Cleveland Cocktail party will remember that James Marsters was available for personal pictures at that event, but per James' own request, he will not pose for personal photos in Tampa*. James says he just wants to "hang-out" with the fans at the Cocktail Party "like a normal person" and mingle and get to know everyone, without stopping to pose for personal photos every two seconds. James would prefer to have that one-on-one moment with each fan as he wanders around the room, rather than pose for photos. So let's please respect his wishes - you may still take candid photos of him during the event - just no posed photos. Also remember that Mercedes McNab, James Leary, Iyari Limon, and Robin Atkin Downes will also be attending the Cocktail Party and are usually available for personal photos. This will hold true for the Banquet as well.
*Vulkon apologizes if this causes any type of hardship on our fans, but please remember that it was not our decision.
Hanging out with James is worth so much more than a teeny photo op, so these lucky buggers better not complain!

And Raveness has posted about the party too, at MTS: The cocktail party last night was hectic 'cos James Leary & Iyari didn't make it because their plane was delayed 3hrs due to a bomb threat & then James Marsters was late.
I was limping back to the table when he came in so I got some of that on tape & then he was mobbed. After getting him on tape talking to a few of my friends I went back to our table & then like 20min later James comes & sits at the table next to us. I sitting sideways icing my ankle so I was pissed 'cos all these people would then try to sqeeze right around him & then they'd stick their butts in my face. Finally a few of my friends got to sit down & one of them made joe move so I could come sit down. He waved at me & then I got to share the seat with my friend & then another friend had a chance to say some emotional stuff to James. I got it all on tape.He responded & then he left.
Btw, he tried the drink we've dubbed Smouldering Sex God aka Clem Kicker. He def liked...hehehe forums.morethanspike.com/index.php?act=ST&f=5&t=1350&s=

catlady at F4F has reported:
The Q & A in Tampa just ended. Mercedes McNab said that the plan right now is for Harmony to be in 6 episodes. She loves working with James and she raved about how wonderful he is.
James didn't say much that was new. He didn't say anyone negative about Spike this time. Someone asked if Buffy loved Spike and he said the usual "Buffy loves Angel" stuff. Then he said that Buffy "used Spike horribly".
Yes, she did....

As a rule, info from private/members only lists shouldn't realy be copied over to public forums - unless the psoter has given permission of course, but I'll leave this up unless we get grumbles. Some notes on Saturday's Q & A from Darkkshad at BAPS:
Random notes from James's Q&A. I'm not going to be pretty with this because I don't want to impose on someone else's connect charges.
James said:
He was not comfortable with the nudity. It's different when it's the theater and you can choose to take a project or not. With you are contracted 24/7. He also again talked about how Sarah didn't have to take anything off.
He'd do a Harry Dresden film in a heartbeat. A lot depends on the funding. If there's a lot of money backing it as a big production, he wouldn't have a chance. If it's medium money, then he would.
Everyone dies at the end of his film in September but death is worth it if you can be yourself. "The price is worth paying to be yourself."
Love scenes are like stunt work. It takes a lot of work to make them not boring. He liked working with JL because she was able to access a part of Spike no one else could.
Regency Films is distributing his new movie. This is a good thing because it means a wide distributorship.
Spike and Angel would fight over Buffy. He sees Spike as immature (don't quote me on that one, but that's what my notes say.)
The musical is his favorite episode. "made me look glorious."
He's not aware of the facial expressions he makes as Spike because he's in the moment. He's in his sandlot as an actor.
Television offers security. Theatre doesn't pay enough, and sometimes movies don't pay at all. A former girlfriend of his found this out.
Security is a big illusion. You succeed in life by becoming strong.
He produced 70 plays and feels back in that seat with his music.
In 10 years he'd like to have collected the chits to pick his own projects and become a producer. Macbeth is still the dream project, he doesn't think anyone has done it well. He'd also like to do a show with two cops -- one black and one white where they explored their issues.
He liked Spike as a Bad Ass. But that gets repetitive. The character has had a chance to evolve,. It said more about the character after he lost his cool.
OK. The next two statements were interesting. "I think Buffy truly loves Angel." "I think she (Buffy) used him (Spike) horribly."
He thinks that once he moves to Angel, he will miss the crew. They really worked hard with a minimum amount of whining.
Eliza is hotter in person. She was totally one of the guys --- except she was girl. She had a lot of humility.
He would choose Han Solo in an instant over Luke Skywalker, who he couldn't understand as a hero. He also liked the Fett.
He has a new appreciation for bands who travel on the road.
He's a sleepaholic who likes to put in 12-14 hours but will get by with catnaps.
Spike learned a lot. He was going through a journey.
Yes. Someone asked about Seeing Red. Grrrr! For the first time, however, he put the majority of the blame for how the scene turned out on the producers instead of himself. He said it almost destroyed his friendship with Sarah and that the producers treated it just like another scene instead of giving them more direction on what they (especially him)
"Chance" was a great beginning for Amber. He said her victory was in getting the movie made, not in getting it distributed. It was a film that the script promised, and he's expecting great things from her in the future.
That's about it. Oh, somewhere in there we got the kicking ass/kissing babes line. Hee!
There's another Q&A tomorrow. If I can get him to call on me, I'll try to ask a Redemption question. I am considering waving a Spike t***g to achieve this aim.
It took four hours for me to get through the through the autograph line. I gave him the prezzies. He was tired but still a trouper. He was wearing a burgundy shirt for those who need to know. Teep sat at his table for the dinner and can give a report on what he had to eat. Just kidding!
And this, from catlady on F4F..... In the autograph line, I told James that I hoped he realizes that the reason many women love Spike is because we identify with him more than with Buffy. We identify with the way he loves with all of his heart and wears his heart on his sleeve. He added "and he gets used and gets his heart broken." He seemed to know exactly what I meant. He said "believe me that happens to both sexes. My life is proof of that." Oh, man....he is breaking our hearts.....Hugs to you, James...

catlady again, at F4F:
I didn't see any sign that his knee bothered him. He was standing and walking through the hour long Q & A. His hair looked longer. The roots were very dark and the ends were blond. I would think that he will wait until the last possible minute to bleach it again. I will try my best to ask him about his hair tomorrow.

Teeny bit of James' second Q&A, just finished apparently! Again from catlady - what a touper!
James talked about screaming in pain when he bleaches his hair. Someone suggested that he rinse his hair in milk. He thanked her for the suggestion and said that he will be bleaching his hair again in 3 days and would try milk to see if it helps.
I asked him about Buffy using Spike as a punching bag when she was depressed and frustrated. I said that it seemed that the show was sending a message that her actions were OK since she never showed any remorse. He didn't think that her abuse of Spike was shown as being acceptable. I told him that she never showed any remorse and that make it look like it was OK. He said that he knew that the writers did not think that her abuse was acceptable and they did not intend to send that message. He said they were trying to show that she was human and that humans make mistakes. He said that he was sorry that it came across that her violence was OK.
James also said that he is taking 7 weeks off to film "Italian Heat." He is filming his AtS scenes before he leaves because he will be in every episode. James said that his AtS commitments come first but that Joss was very excited about him having the opportunity to work with Derek Jacobi so he was very willing to made the adjustments to the schedule.

This extra from catlady has me worried, especially coupled with what he said in a recent interview about not sleeping much (and he LOVES to sleep): James Did Not have knee surgery. He said the doctor is mad at him, but he didn't have time for the surgery.
Saw a pic from the cocktail party, and it may have just been the lighting BUT, he looks exhausted....

Wheatie!! Long time no thingummy! ;D Okay laydeez, only seen it reported on BAPS so far, so will bring you the bare bones....
He is 7 (even I had worked out the maths on that one! But then I guess a lot of people had no idea he'd been married and had a son until very recently. Pfft, they should read Bloody Spike, lol!)
Did he let son watch BtVS? No, but he didn't think he wanted to - lol! More interested in Dragonball Z...
His son doesn't like him to sign autographs when they are together, so he doesn't. The world of acting is a plastic world, and so he tries to keep him away from that.

He's 7? I'd thought he'd be a couple of years older, but then again, I'm not quite an expert on James' lovelife like some people I know... who shall remain nameless... I wonder if he looks like his dad... So he had a 1-year-old kid when he was playing The Big Bad... kinda funny... ;D
