Just seen this over at MTS Subject: [Jim Butcher Announce] FOR FANS IN THE UK!!!
Greetings to our friends across the pond!
I thought I would drop out a quick line to let everyone know about the premier of the Dresden Files show. It's coming out in the US and Canada this coming Sunday, but according to Digiguide, Dresden will air in the UK on Sky One, on Wednesdays from February 14th. Enjoy!
Also for UK fans, a reader who happens to work at Waterstones wrote me to let me know that the UK versions of the books by Orbit will be on sale in their stores beginning this Thursday and continuing through most of March. You'll be able to buy three of the paperbacks and get one free, as I understand it. But definitely on sale. For those who have been planning on buying the whole series for their friends and relatives (I don't know who you guys are, or what you have against your friends and relatives, but by all reports you're out there) you can save a bit on your gift buying.
So look for the new Dresden hardback in April, the television series in February, and the Waterstones sale next week!
Jim

Well having watched the first episode of The Dresden Files, all I can say is, what a waste of an hour that was I knew things weren't going to go well when 'Bob' appeared in human form , Murphy looked more like Susan ie; long dark wavy hair and quite dusky in appearance, not that Susan was mentioned or made an appearance. The flashbacks to his father were weird too, and not as affectionate as described in the book. The story-line wasn't bad, a wee boy being hunted by a 'skin-walker' and protected by 'Ravens' who assumed humanesque form. The 'skin-walker' was found out to be working for someone else and the way it ended they made it appear to be 'Justin' This is a kind of rambled review, but don't expect another 'cause I don't think I'll be watching it again I'll stick to the books ;D

I have to say I quite enjoyed it ;D...I know it wasn't faithful to the books but then again its rare for books to make it to the small screen without changes . I viewed it as just a fantasy story with some resemblance to the books and as such it delivered for me .
Harry was about the only person from the books to actually match the physical description of any of the the characters , and his home is far too swish to be Harry's humble abode , but I quite liked the spirit Bob in human form who Harry could banish to the skull when he overstepped the mark ;D
I'll watch again because I like to give things a good go before I can say yeah or nay , and I hear that the next episodes are an improvement on this series opener , but I feel this would have fared better had they begun with a 2 hour story with more background to the characters we did meet .

Not yet anyway..but then again finding trained cats the size of a small dog might have been difficult , and probably cost more than the SFX budget, which , lets face it couldn't have cost them a great deal Like I said, I quite enjoyed it , but it needs to improve a LOT for me to stick with it

I would have loved to see JM in a Dresden series that followed the books more closely , but I always saw him more as Thomas than Harry , and I doubt if he'd have wanted to play a blonde vampire again ;D I also hope that the vamps , werewolves and fae will make an appearance , but not having read any spoilers , I don't know whether the makers have found it testing enough to introduce a modern day wizard without introducing the more fantastical characters . Its my guess that they have and will be more focused on the detective with a twist angle , and the more human element ...which will be a shame because we know that the fantasy characters are what makes the books so magical ..We'll have to wait and see Oh, wikidpedia do a great and pretty in-depth look at the books here ... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Dresden_Files ...and , something I didn't know, Karrin Murphys name was changed for the series because there is a Detective Karen Murphy in the real Chicago PD

I never knew Jim Butcher had shoulder length hair! I'm quite shocked. I didn't imagine him like that! Bit worried about the Dandy Sprat thing cos I dunno, doesn't seem right. Good word though and I luf anything historical but I can't see how you would use that in today's day and age, even jokingly. Hope James does appear on the show...
