I think a thread for music we have alwas loved or just heard could be plugged here. I have just this minuet heard a song from a fairly new singer called Joss Stone. Aged only 16 she has the voice many soend years trying to perfect. The song I heard was a cover from White Strpies I believe and though it sounded good Iknow it didnt do that amazing voice justice so I will be doing what I can to hear more. I found this article on a google search and I think it sums her up perfectly Farewell AmandaIts a funny article, but really says it all about this young girls talent.

Maybe NL could give us gig reviews here, as she goes to lots, and I reckon almost all of the bands she sees are unknown to lil ol' provincial me!
I am watching TOTP - yes, I am THIS old and still watch TOTP! [glow=red,2,300]Bite me![/glow] Really enjoyed Maroon 5, and Incubus (who knew that they had made 7 albums...?!)
Thank you for your attention.

Ooh yeah I'm definitely up for the challenge PK! January's always a quiet month gig wise, but I've got tickets for 3 gigs so far in February:
February 11th - The Distillers, Brixton Academy (supported by EODM, Pretty Girls Make Graves and Peaches) February 16th - Eagles of Death Metal, Madame Jojo's February 24th - Fiery Furnaces, The Garage
I know all these bands well so have high expectations and will give reviews on all.
I haven't heard of Joss Stone Az, is she bluesy? I can't use that link for some reason.

To funny not to read Went to see a good rock band last night called Atlanta they do good covers of old classics such as Brown eyed girl which wanders off into Bob Marleys Two little birds. it goes so well. Other covers a very heavy version of Whiskey in the jar. Havent heard a version this good since Thin Lizzy covered it. Atlanta Theyre soon to be touring Ireland and will then be going to Florida and Vegas.

I've heard of Spunge Wil, they're the uk ska/punk group right? Haven't heard enough to know if they're any good though I'm afraid lovie, be interested to hear your opinion though. Never heard of Never Heard Of It ;D, Graveltrap, not for me I saw 'A Perfect Circle' last night at the Hammersmith Apollo, can't rate the venue I'm afraid, too many restrictions on what you can and can't do, doubt I'd book tickets for there again unless I was desperate to see a band. There security people were ready to pounce on anyone who looked like they might light a fag! only beer in the auditorium, you had to smoke and drink 'real' drinks in the foyer The support band was Melissa auf de Maar, some of the Queens people have collaborated on her first album due out soon, so I was interested to see what she was like. Can't say I was that impressed, her voice just didn't do anything for me, and her chat in between songs was irritating, she barely warmed the crowd up for 'APC' I'm not a big fan of APC myself, I mean I'm happy to listen to their music but have never bought a cd or anything. I was impressed though, they put on a good show and Az it was VERY loud ;D We stayed to the back of the venue, coz it was HOT! which is usually not a good sign for me coz I like to be in the thick of it, but I was able to enjoy the show in relative comfort and no bruising YES! I don't know the songs well so can't give a setlist or anything I'm afraid, but I can definitely recommend them if you're into rock!

Hey, not sure where to put this, but since it involves music, I thought I'd post it here! A friend of my dad's and the family, has won a Grammy! Tom Piazza won a grammy for Best Album Notes for writing the narration to a Martin Scorsese documentary about the blues. Tom is a well known author around here and he's the one who wrote the nice article about my dad for Oxford magazine a couple of years back. He's the longtime boyfriend of Mary, who plays in the Morningstar String band that my dad plays in. Anyway, just very happy for him, he is a very nice person.

It's titled Martin Scorcese Presents the Blues: A Musical Journey.....a compilation affiliated with a PBS series about the blues. Tom is a great musician, too....and one of the friendliest people I've ever met.

I am so happy I am on holiday this week! My REM DVD - Perfect Square - came today and I was able to watch this afternoon, and listen with the volume up real high! If anyone is even just a bit into them, treat yourself to this... it ain't even very expensive. I blabbered on about it here - www.livejournal.com/users/pokerkitten/10331.html - and I might add more when I am calmer!

Went to an XFM (London radio station) xposure night, where they showcase new bands. There were 3 bands billed but they squeezed in another act for us early birds First guy up was from Finland 'Muchasahn' (sp? completely phonetical LOL) just him, his guitar and computer. He was dead sweet but I'm not sure he'd be able to carry a whole show for me. Next up was 'Pet' a Berlin 3 piece band, sort of electropop, pretty good, (though I thought the lead singer looked like nasty nick from one of them big brother shows ;D ) very danceable. Next was 'Hot Chip' a saaf London band from Putney and Fulham, they all seemed a bit hyper, but the 5 members of the band were so diverse looking they caught one's attention quite easily, lots of keyboards and not rocky enough for me but I enjoyed them none-the-less. Highlight of the night for me was Gisli a Norwegian band, with an extremely cute drummer , really good base player, the lead singer had a nice voice too Much heavier sound, which is my preference, you can never have too much drum and base A very enjoyable evening!
