Ooh Movie thread. I Love movies! ;D
The last time I went cinema it was £5.10 and that was at the Odeon. I Did have an NUS Card at the time so there was a little discount. The cinema I go to has a Safeway supermarket next door, so I take a rucksack and buy all my nibbles from there. Its cheaper!
Right then...movies.. If your a soppy cow like me and love girly chick flicks, then I recommend The Prince and Me. Its a typical predictable love story, but its full of that fuzzy goodness that makes a good chick flick.
I Robot is pretty darn good. Its full of special effects and I sat watching some scenes just wondering how it was put together and how long it took. Will Smith is humorous as always too. Theres a bit of "slight" nekidness too.
Garfield is one for the kids (obviously). Its a good film for older viewers, but its clear that its aimed at kids because of some of the jokes. (Im a big kid at heart, so I laughed). Garfield dancing is a cool scene though. Oh, and if you hated CGI Scooby, then youll hate Garfield.
Shrek 2: I gotta agree with everyone else and say this film is brilliant. I love Puss, but Donkey still has a place in my heart..lol. If you love the first one, then its just human nature to love this one! ;D

It seems there's similar prices for movies all around - in Munich the regular prices are 7,50 to 8 €, but there's a discount on Tuesdays (5 or 5,50 €). I gotta admit that I rarely go to the movies. But I went no less than three times last week, lol ("Super Size Me" and "Fahrenheit 9/11", twice). And I highly recommed "Super Size me" for anyone who loves fast food but wants to diet...

And I highly recommed "Super Size me" for anyone who loves fast food but wants to diet... I think I read something about that online... is that the documentary about the volunteer they followed around for a certain amount of time and ate nothing but McDonald's food every day and gained a ton of weight?

yeah, not only that, his cholesterol level shot up and he lost interest in sex...apparently they are phasing out 'super size' meals now....but I just read today that the salads they introduced have a higher fat content than the burgers! Back on topic.....I've promised to take V to see Spiderman 2 tomorrow....hope it's better than the first one!

The pictures by us are the same price £5.50 on normal days but a reduced price of £3.50 on tuesdays.
I saw King Arthur yesterday and really enjoyed it. I haven't heard about the roman thing before and it threw me for a while but the overall film was very enjoyable. Loved the fight scenes especially the one with the ice and Ray Winstone sp? was very good as one of the Knights.
NN I loved Spiderman 2 thought it was alot better than the 1st one. The scenes with the train and while they are in the coffee shop are exceptional.
Another film I really enjoyed was I, Robot. Not all that keen on Will Smith as an actor but he was being quite grown up in this film and there wasn't any silliness off him. The robots of course are the scene stealers in it and they are very well done especially the main one called Sonny.

;D yeah, Spidey 2 is much better than 1, and did you notice that the editor's wife was the actress who played Amber Bensons mum in 'Chance' ;D
I still think Tobey Mcguire is too short and too ugly to play Spiderman though....and too much of the film was given over to his angst about not being able to live a normal life. Saying that, the action scenes were incredible, and Alfred Molina was a much better villain .

It's £5.50 at the Odeon in Blackpool but cheaper for pensioners and they have a special offer on every Wednesday and the staff are very nice but the drinks are a rip off, £2 for a soft drink is disgusting and we saw The Bourne Supremacy which was very enjoyable and Arthur which I also liked and I, Robot and Will Smith really has grown up and I liked this one but I felt sorry for the poor robots huddled together in those containers, just cruel! Nicholas Clay has died? When? Why? He wasn't that old was he? I don't like it when peeps die, it's very unsettling.

WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!! Just back from the cinema, and really really enjoyed The Bourne Supremacy, like Ditto. It may not have had as many twists as the first film but it still held your attention, and I was holding my breath too, a few times! Very stylish, good dialogue, very well performed. Excellent locations. Great incidental music. Fab fights and car chases (and I ain't into car chases generally). I'm not particularly a fan of Matt Damon, but this is HIS role and no-one else's. Big thumbs up and a 4.75 out of 5 on the PK-omoter. AND, to add to the bliss, for the first time ever the ticket woman said my pusher went free and I would be student rate, so it only cost £4-30 for the whole thing ;D Plus, they gave us two packets of complementary mints! Nice

Well, we did wonder! But it may be a new policy. They certainly don't - or haven't previously - advertised it. But most theatres do something by way of discount or freebie so I guess they are just falling into line. Anyway, it was a nice surprise

Well, my dander was up when we went to the cinema today - knowing that you can now get in so cheaply as carer and student, I was miffed when we were about to be charged £9 something and flapped my trap. Polite but firm. £4-30 it was We both really enjoyed The Village. I had read and heard quite a number of reviews praising the movie direction and acting but bemoaning what they seemed to think was a cop-out or lameass ending. But I thought the revealing of the truth was excellent; it made the whole movie more frightening/chilling for me and caused a lot of talking afterwards about the nature of fear etc. And I thought Ron Howard's daughter was excellent as our heroine And woohoo, the Previews - I can't remember the title because I was bedazzled. But Jet Li's upcoming movie looks mighty fine. And man oh man, so does he!! Can't wait, want it NOW! ;D

We saw "Closer" today - it was a bit of a mind fuck and we talked about it for quite a while after (which stopped us going to see The Aviator half an hour later as we were still mulling over the first movie! Would have spoilt the second, not giving it our full attention).
Hard to describe it; I guess it was about relationship, truths and lies and consequences. I didn't know beforehand but part way through I said to D was it originally a stage play (it was, and the writer wrote the screenplay too, which I think may have been a mistake) - it felt very much like one. They hadn't opened it out very much for the movie version but I think it would have benefitted from it. And some of the conversations would work fine in the theatre but not in the more naturalistic movie format. I didn't care for any of the four main characters til near the end, although they and their motivations were all interesting.
The acting was good, but I felt quite cold towards everyone, until one of the final scenes, when Jude Law's character became far more human and likeable in his vulnerability.
I'm glad I saw it, but it wasn't what I expected at all.

Just watched House of Flying Daggers....what can I say..it's very like Crouching Tiger...beautifully filmed, excellent fight scenes, but the plot was on the weak side. Still not sure if I like this trend to more arty martial arts films....they seem to have lost all the fun and faster pace of the older classics like Shaolin Temple, Drunken Master and The Big Boss . Andy Lau was quite tasty in this , but he's no Bruce Lee or Jet Li

My 15 year old saw Closer last night (they'd intended to see Meet The Fokkers), I guess this was a bit different. she said they could'nt work it out at first and it was all about sex ( I bet she's glad I was'nt with her I havn't been to cinema for ages, last film I saw was Wimbledon which I loved even though I hate tennis and never ever watch it. I am currently going through a serious Lord of the Rings obsession and am watching all three extended DVD's over and over again, lapping up all those special features. also reading the book again. Just off to get a life, via Middle Earth of course!

Lol, Pluto, a teenager would think Closer was all about sex, but it was darker and deeper than that (and I still hate Larry, two weeks on!). I think she'd have been cringing in the sex club scene, if you were sitting there, though!
NN, I really wanted to see HoFD. One of my LJ friends waxed lyrical about it just after I realised it was only playing evenings in Worcester and I wouldn't get to see it. Made me feel very sorry for myself! I love the arty films, so beautfully shot, ravishing colours. CT,HD made me cry, for gawd's sakes! I wasn't expecting that! If a movie can make me cry I shall defend it to my last breath!

Recs of videos/DVDs? We just watched 'Mixed Nuts' again on tape with Steve Martin and it was just soooo funny. I'd forgotten how funny it was. I just had to say it's one of our favourite films!

No reason why you can't rec and review movies you have seen at home, here Okay, after six weeks of virtual house arrest I escaped into the outside world this afternoon to see Constantine. I haven't read the comic books, although I have seen some of the artwork - excellent! - and know he is a kinda blond Scouser, so I wasn't invested in his Hellblazer origins. And I have a tendency to be very forgiving of Keanu's um, acting style, lol. So given all this, and the subject matter, I was bound to enjoy it on one level or another. I wasn't so sure about D, but hey, I have no life and rarely get out to the movies these days, so figured he could put up with it, especially as he gets in so cheaply as my "carer", heh! His reaction at the end? "What a class act! Loved it!" With nary a hint of sarcasm I was a little disappointed with the script, I have to say; very flimsy in parts. But I did love the visualisations of Hell and the various demons. Particularly admired John's first on-screen handling of a demon (which made the notion of being possessed, strapped sweatily to a bed being straddled by K a rather enticing prospect!) - the mirror crack'd from side to side. Gabriel and its delusions of self importance were also well realised. And there was something delightfully anarchic about our anti-hero brazenly chain-smoking his way to oblivion in uptight LA! I have a problem with religions of any shape or form, and so was cross to run across the notion again that no matter what good you might try to accomplish, if you have been "bad" just the once, you've had it mate... unless you are striving in a wholly unselfish way. Angel revisited. The story of Angie and her twin "seeing" things from an early age, one embracing their gift, the other denying it, reminded me sharply of one of my own fics of three years back, as it happens, which made it more interesting for me than it actually came across in the movie, lol. But overall I enjoyed it, and it seemed to pass very quickly. It could have been a helluva (heh) lot better, but it sure could have turned out a lot worse. And with Keanu looking like this - Hubba hubba!- it would be churlish to dwell on its faults!
