;D Hi all
The gang enjoyed Cold Mountain tissues needed at the end. but the best film Ditto and I saw besides the epic Lord of the Rings Trio was Brotherhood of the Wolves it is a french film with subtitles. Oh and if you are interested in plays the Shell Seekers is a must to see, very cleverly done along with the Woman in Black very scary.
Luv to all Ladyhawke

My not terribly insightful reviews of the two films I have seen this last week or so:
HP III - hand wibble in mid-air* *Translates as no better, no worse than the other two for a neutral. Passed the time well enough.
Troy - TOTTY! Muscles, thighs, sweat, grime, men in short leather skirts, great one on one fight scenes. Not much else to it. Go to a cheap screening and take a drool bucket.

Just back from seeing Shrek 2....if you enjoyed the first one you'll love this. I'm in two minds as to whether it was better than 1, I thought 1 was funnier...but have to say Puss in Boots, as voiced by Antonio Banderas was great...totally taking the piss out of Zorro. Lots of visual gags and references to other films. Wasn't too keen on the Fairy Godmother character (Jennifer Saunders ) they could have made her much funnier! All in all I think we would have been better waiting for the DVD..you see so much more when not distracted by popcorn munchers!

You need to go to the cinema with me NN. No-one dares munch or chatter near me! I liked the look of the trailers, but do you think not having seen the first Shrek would be a disadvantage? I shouldn't imagine so; I doubt it's that deep, lol! I quite fancy it at cheap rates (certainly not at full price)!

I think you'd enjoy it PK....even more so if you can get in cheaper...and no, not taxing on the brain cells at all, just a good giggle.I would have gone on Wed as J gets 2 for 1 tickets with his mobile phone, but I'm going out anyway And the popcorn munchers were my lot, and they take no notice of me! Nah..I usually prefer to watch films at home...you can have a coffee and a smoke, and pause it if you need to go!

We watched Donnie Darko tonight.... wow! Okay, not a new film, but missed its cinema screenings. But I always knew it was my kinda thing. What I didn't know was how the truth would hit so late and so fast and with such surprising yet perfect clarity. It's wild, weird, imaginative, mysterious, thought provoking, quirky and just damn fine. Can't even begin to give plot/narrative details because you need to come at this fresh the first time. But absolutely not everyone's tub of popcorn.

I must see this now! I actually went to Tesco's this evening and looked for it, but they were out V and I watched Dreamcatcher, based on Stephen Kings book, and enjoyed it....Similar sort of theme as 'It', it's about about 4 boys growing up in Derry , Maine, and coming to the rescue of a boy who isn't all he seems, and it's more Sci Fi than horror. It stars Morgan Freeman, the Brit actor Damian Lewis, a complete hunk who took the fancy of both of us called , Thomas Jane, and Donnie Wahlberg among others ;D

I went to see Van Helsing a while back, and actually quite enjoyed it... though it's rather like a gothic, monster-filled version of James Bond (those who have seen it - Friar makes a great 'Q', with all his little gadgets!). Not much else to say about it, but it passes the time and is quite fun to watch. Dracula wasn't all that scary, though. But top marks for his pretty brides, real pain in the neck (lol!), always spoiling everything.
Snotbag baby vampires were gross, though. Don't go to see it on a full stomach unless you can handle lots of amniotic fluid that LOOKS LIKE SNOT!!!!!

I want to see Shrek 2 as well - got the video of Shrek 1 I liked it so much!
I forgot to say how much cinema tickets were, mainly because I go so rarely I can't remember. I think about £5.50 is the going rate, but I sometimes get a student discount... can't remember how much. Last couple of times I went as someone else's guest, so I haven't paid for a cinema ticket for a while...

I hadn't paid full price at the cinema for ages, so I am here to tell you it is £6 at Worcester's citiplex On reflection I think I would have rather stalked FlogIt Paul just round the corner from the cinema, in the Guildhall, today than pay 6 quid to see "King Arthur". It was kinda like "Troy" in that the battle scenes and hand to hand combat were excellently done, the dialogue was awful, and the rich and many stories associated with the history and legends were largely ditched to lever in more fighting.... Quite valid to give it a Romano-British setting but then all they did with it was have battles. At least "Troy" had top notch eye candy

I recently read 'The Last Legion' by Massimo Manfredi, and from what I've read about this version of King Arthur, it would seem to have a similar premise. In the book, Arthur is said to be the son of a later Roman Emperor, who is taught by a Britain with Druidic powers, and saved from exile by a group of Legionnaires from different parts of the Roman Empire.
I have to say I prefer to believe the version of the legend that was 'Excalibur', despite the hammy Merlin that Nicol Williamson gave us !

Lol, I was trying to think of who played Merlin in that version! I love that particular take on Arthur....prefer the magical to the brutish!

Ahhh me too M...Morte D'Arthur and all that! John Terry who played Arthur in Excalibur was on 'Waking The Dead' last week , and looking very old! Nicholas Clay who played Lancelot died last year I think it was...he was lovely.

Jeez, was it that long ago?? I guess so.....sigh! I see Pix wants to see Shrek 2...wonder if she went? With the nieces here all day Tuesday, I think we might go see it....good cover for an overgrown child like me! Although I did get the nerve to go see HP3 by myself! You all pay more for tickets than we do....afternoon matinee tickets (til 6pm) are about $5.00 and later is about $7.50. It's really the snacks that cost.....a coke, popcorn and candy, can be $10.00! But they do have kiddie packs, with coke, popcorn and little candy for about $5.00, so not so bad when you take the kids.

You'll enjoy Shrek 2 M, it's great when you can use kids as an excuse! Wow, your prices are good...it cost me £25 for us all to see Shrek....I told em they could go whistle for treats at £4 for a kids box, and £5 for a large popcorn the prices here are such a rip off, you can see why it's only major films that make any money!

You know why snacks cost so much, right? It's because the theaters don't make much off the movies themselves (after having to pay royalty fees and such), so they jack up the snack prices to make up for it.

You're kidding! Excalibur was a load of wank, and I would say I prefered the "realism" of the current movie. They did try to pretend they were having an original take on the whole thing, but no, they weren't. I've been reading history and archaeology tomes about this subject for decades. And there are many excellent novels along the Romano-British theme. "Sword at Sunset" by Rosemary Sutcliffe is IMO the absolute best. Utterly convincing, she writes it so well. It is very old now, but if you run into it in a library or second hand store do have a read!

I've come acroos other stuff by her - good author. Haven't seen Excalibur. but the trailers looked dire... but then, I have my own opinions about the whole Arthur tale, so... guess that's why. Fascinating topic, though...
