I yaven't read ANY HP books I don't have anything against the boy, and have enjoyed the movies, but I prefer my wizards to be all grown up Cue another namecheck for Harry Dresden! Forgot to bring this over before, but the Dresden Files have bene optioned... yesyesyes!! Now, we all know who should play Harry, if it ever becomes a reality, don't we....?! Screw the height thing, that's the only thing about James that wouldn't be absolutely goddamn perfect for the role... I digress.... Jim shares the following:
"I am pleased to announce that the Dresden Files have been optioned to Morgan Gendel at Cashmere Road Entertainment. Morgan is a Hollywood veteran writer and producer, and wrote the Emmy-nominated episode of STNG, "The Inner Light." He has been a co-producer on the set of Law and Order from seasons 1 through 11, and has written episodes for DS9, STNG, L&O and a dozen other television series. Most recently, he has worked on the revamped Dragnet and produced the animated Spider Man cartoon, coming out this fall on MTV (if I remember correctly) and he is a fan of the Dresden Files.
As of right now, this does not mean that this show is going to be appearing on a television near you. It /does/ mean that an intelligent and capable Hollywood veteran thinks that it has a fair shot of winning a spot as a film or television series of one kind or another. With luck, maybe the books WILL go big screen or little screen. I'll keep everyone up to date as best I can. My fingers are crossed, and I'm hoping for the best!" jim-butcher.com/news/

I've read masses of Dean's books - he is very prolific! Thing is, he has written so many I can never remember the titles! He used to write pure horror/spooky stuff, but he is getting more involved and more mysterious with age. He has a nice fluent style, very readable. False Memory is a good read and kinda scary.... something happened in Buffy S7 which made me think of this book straight away!

I'm reading something that probably won't appeal to alot of people - "The Thousand Plan" by Ralph Barker - A story about the first thousand bomber raid on Cologne in WW2. It really is an interesting historical book. My Dad remembers so much about WW2 (even though he was only 12 when it ended) and he encouraged me to read this book. It's fascinating to read how WW2 was conducted compared to the wars of today.

;D Hi Chris, my Demon Teen Daughter is reading Discworld series... me I'm of the gory horror type...books , not me in person..though there's some that might argue the point!!
Dean Koontz, Bentley Little, Ed Gorman, John Connelly, Iris Johanssen and Carol O'Connell are just a few of my favourite authors.

Poor Stephen... this from Yahoo News today: Stephen King Hospitalized With Pneumonia Wed Nov 26, 8:38 PM ET
BANGOR, Maine - Stephen King was expected to remain in a Maine hospital on Thanksgiving as he recovers from pneumonia, a spokesman said.
King is conscious and in good spirits, and is expected to recover fully, his spokesman, Warren Silver, said Wednesday. He's likely to remain in Eastern Maine Medical Center for several days, Silver said.
Silver told the Bangor Daily News there appears to be a connection between the pneumonia and a 1999 accident in which King was struck by a van and nearly killed while walking near his summer home. He suffered a punctured lung and a broken leg, hip and ribs in the accident.
The puncture resulted in a "fair amount" of scar tissue in King's lungs, creating what doctors see as a vulnerability to ailments such as pneumonia, Silver said.
The best-selling author had been diagnosed with pneumonia in his right lung before a recent trip to New York to receive an honorary National Book Award for lifetime achievement. His condition worsened when he returned to Maine and the pneumonia spread to the other lung, Silver said.
"He had been walking around with it, and it got worse and worse."
King checked into the hospital Sunday. He underwent a procedure on Tuesday to remove fluid and scar tissue from the right lung, Silver said.
The 56-year-old King, whose best sellers include "Carrie" and "The Shining," requested no visitors except his family, and no flowers.
"Stephen and his family ask only for good wishes and prayers, and at this time, when we celebrate the bounty of our country, that we remember those who are in need," said a statement from Silver.
All the best, Stephen.

;D Best wishes to Steven, have spent many happy hours with his books. I'm reading Dean Koontz' latest, By The Light Of The Moon, and love this guy. I've read all his books, and whilst I still like the horror stuff, i've really enjoyed his latest departures into the realms of fantasy. Also reading Jonathon Kellermans A Cold Heart, about a serial killer who is bumping off folk in the arts and entertainment world as they are on the verge of making it big. I've followed all the cases of Davenport the psychologist , and Milo the gay detective in their cases set in LA and Hollywood, and can recommend them wholeheartedly.

As PK knows, I'm a bit of a biography buff. This last book I read is probably the best book I've read in 3 years. The Mitford Girls by Mary S. Lovell
"I am normal, my wife is normal, but my daughters are each more foolish than the other" Lord Redesdale, father of the Mitford girls.
Even if the six daughters, born between 1904 and 1920 had been quite ordinary woman, the span of their lives which encompasses the most traumatic in Britain;s history would have made for an interesting read. Diana married Oswald Mosley, the hated leader of the British Union Of Fascists, Unity was a beloved friend of Hitler during WW2, Debo became the Duchess of Cavendish and Decca was a communist. Such varied lives and political preferences, these sister's were quite often at loggerheads during their lives I thoroughly recommend this book 10/10

Is it a new book Toy? I've a friend who's really into the Mitford girls, would make a good gift to have in hand for him if it's not something he might already have.

Glad to help 'Love' by Toni Morrison, one of my fav writers! Don't know her - I'm always looking for something to read, what's her style?

her style's been described as 'magic realism' but I've heard her refute this from her own lips she's incredibly lyrical and as close to poetry as I'm ever likely to appreciate She's a black American writer in her early 70's with the most amazing presence, listening to her read is wonderful, incredibly restful yet exciting at the same time. She writes about the black American experience from slavery through to contemporary times, if I had to recommend one book of hers for anyone to read it would be 'Beloved' *sigh*
