I was thinking about this while sitting in the audience at EoD I would like to ask James what ' motivated ' him to continue acting after he left Juliard?. I mean he got kicked out he got in with a bad crowd and spent most of his time in casualty or a police station. He was living rough hadn't got 2 halfpennies to rub together. I mean what stopped him from saying sod it all and go look for an ordinary 9 to 5 job. He must have been very demoralized at one point. What do you all think??

I think he was determined to prove those teachers wrong - he does have a lot of guts and grit in there.... and I'm not sure how rough he was living in NY. Makes it sound like he was in a shop doorway, and I haven't ever heard that. No glass in the windows, though! And he did do all sorts of jobs to get by (even if he didn't last long in some of them, lol!). I think he would give the question a considered answer if anyone did the deed. Is it gonna be you Twistie? I'm gonna ask him does it hurt to keep bleaching his hair, coz I don't think I have ever heard him talk about that.... ;D

I'd like to ask him how often he sees his whippersnapper, but it's too personal.

Oh boy, that would really set the cat among the pigeons Ditto ;D Can you imagine?! I imagine him seeing him quite often.... but that is my rosy idea of the perfect James. Although I bet he does...

Whippersnapper? Oh, the offspring, you mean? Too bad that is forbidden territory because I'd love to hear him talk about him. I have to believe he is a very good dad--in his nature to be. The one problem their relationship no doubt suffers from is lack of time together because of his schedule, but I'll wager their time is of high quality. Oh, I could go on and on about this, but better not! Yeah, I think in lieu of the above, I'd ask him about his hair, too. There is just sooo much there we don't know about, y'know! Like how many times he has to have it "done", does it hurt, what is his natural color, and the like.....Important stuff!! OH!! And if he is single, because I REALLY must know that! ;D

Actually, what I'd be very interested to know/ask about the hair, is exactly what chemical reaction does the Sweet n' Low have on the dye to make it sting less?
Suppose he is at all scientific? It isn't a topic I have heard him discuss much...WOW!! Something I know a little about that he doesn't?!? I'm feeling a little superior at the moment.... ;D

To focus in even more we could ask for detaisl of the pus bursting from his scabby scalp.... ;D Okay, enough! Marilyn has taken herself off to Chicago without printing out a copy of these suggested questions, goddamnit! Will we have to cram them all in at The Harvest?!

Ok I probably over exagerated the living rough thing but like you said PK he had no glass in his windows. I don't know about asking him at the Harvest though I'd be too embarrased in front of an audience. I'd probably be able to ask on a normal conversation basis.
Ditto I would love to know about his whippersnapper aswell but there are just somethings we can't ask. Wasn't it about the time he left Juliard that he got married perhaps his new wife and a child on the way was what motivated him to continue acting.

Well, apparently they hadn't long had baby when James went to LA late 1996. The missus and baby were due to follow soon after when she finished the job she was on.... I was kinda surprised, as I had always assumed they had split up before he moved, and therefore that son was a bit older than he actually is.... So yeah, def not a subject to bring up!

Won't ask him about that then, wouldn't want to get him angry, he is FIERCE when his is angry, he scowls grr grr You ask him Twisty... So PK, is Marilyn there now, with James? Wah, why aren't I there. She's all on her own as well. The poor pauvre petite; mind you all James fans are sooo nice, she's sure to meet up with somebody. You shudda gone PK, you'd have been all right. You should have taken me as well. Somebody should have taken me. I want to be there.

The marriage hit the skids after the move to LA, looks like. What the hell happened?? Christ, I'm way too nosey... Must have been damn hard to leave his son, though. Being a child of divorce himself. Lot more to this story and this guy than we know (just now...). Like what is up with the anger issue? Where does that come from? He is becoming more forthcoming with some personal stuff of late--age, kid(s), his dark side. I'm thinking he wants to open up about some things....That is tantalizing! Come on James--SPILL!!! We are all here for you! Come and cry on our shoulders, in our arms...

Anything, PK?? Well, back to the man of the moment, my most burning question has to do with his attraction to younger women since his divorce. Now THAT can be a symptom of mid-life crisis stuff. Shoot, but I am dying to see what type of woman he takes up with next! Should be me, of course....I'm intelligent, kind, sexy, gracious, educated. I'm the proverbial lady...who is a whore in the bedroom. I'm also 7 years older, and better for him because of it. And I have a wicked sense of humor. I love cats, have 5. And can we talk Shakespeare? Oh, yes....I am his soul mate, for sure. So, you see, it is quite meant to be..... Oh!! Did I drift off there and say anything I might regret? Reveal something? Could have sworn I was asking him a question at a con....Must have been a dream!

Here's a question I was pondering the other day when PK said that James had recorded the next Jim Butcher book Fool Moon ( hope I got the title right ). How did James get into the character of Harry?? Did he just read through it first and play it how he thought. Or did he have extensive discussions with JB to get the right perspective on the character. I dunno what you others think but to me no matter how much description there is in a book or a fanfic different peeps get a different visual when reading it. To me and I know to alot of others James did a great job with Storm Front even to the point where we would love to see him act it on screen. But the question to me is how did he get to that conclusion??

My impression is that Jim B has had nothing to do with the audio books - other than, as he says himself, to write the books, lol! I am on the McAnally's list where he posts quite often. Seems like a real good bloke ;D And he likes James, and just loves what he did with "Storm Front", but he played no part in it. Oh, he said he furnished a list of pronunciations for the names etc. For me, James' portrayal of the women was magnificent. As good as his interpretation of Harry. ;D Or Bob

Really PK you surprise me. I thought Jim B would have at least given James some background info on the characters. I've been on the Jim B thread to have a look around but there wasn't much about it on there. Does it tell you more on the McAnallys board. Did Jim B know of James before hand and ask him specifically to read it. Or was it the company that recorded the book. Do you agree with me though that peeps getting different visuals when reading fics. Take the BV for instance they have pics of people who they see for there characters but when I read them I can't always see them that way.

He did know of James because he is a Buffy fan, but no, like I say, he had nothing to do with the audio other than to sign a contract and make some money! He has commented that he is more than happy with the job JM did, and that he has fans who buy the books and audio because of JM but stay for Harry! Says sales tend to go up a little after Buffy cons, lol! They'll both be at DragonCon in August, of course. I think an author of fiction is much more open to each and everyone one of us getting something different out of their characters and themes, and are fine with different interpretations of their work.
McAnally's is an email list and the discussions - although occasionally OT - are about Jim B's works, what books we and he like, and stuff like that. He often posts, and also lets us have advance chapters of his almost published books - woohoo! ;D
And this is way OT and should be in the audio books thread!
