sorry for taking so long to tell you about LBM but I thought I may be bringing you good news ,but it isn't when Mum went in Hospital on 23rd December she was talking ok but not eating and walking and she was ok for that week watching and talking fine but on the Sunday 1st she started shaking and wasn't as she should be then by the 3rd she was talking funny about people who have long since gone the nurses said she had a water infection and I was hoping when she got over that she would get back to normal, this Friday 6th she was Very agitated and talking loudly (which Mum never does )which really upset me but today I had a phone cal from the Matron (Gary I think his name is) tonsay he'd like to see me about Mum and where do we go from here so this afternoon I went (J&J came with me for support) and it comes down to Mu8m wont be getting better any time soon and they are going to try a barium swallow to see why she cant eat and they've already done a gastrothingy and ultrasound and nothing shows up why she cant eat and they have to get her out of bed by hoist so she can't come home we will have to find a home for her when they send her from hospital that has definitely knocked me for six I can't stop yet and can't get my head round it :'(I want her home but J&J say its for the best I've put this in here cause I can look back on this and see when (my heart was broken) they told me about Mum and I thought you would like to know about LBM as well if you can't understand anything of my ramble sorry I'm still in shock

Oh Dee Dee I'm so sorry to see you so upset my darlin It may be that at the moment LBM is still suffering the after effects of the UTI ( water infection ) They are terrible things to see in the elderly as they completely knock them for six and cause terrible confusion and rigors (shaking) due to the high temperature and raging infection . I can't see why she couldn't be at home where she may be more comfortable and less confused in familiar surroundings ...they can get portable hoists for home use ..it would just mean sorting out carers to help you as much as possible ..on the other hand , there are some good nursing homes around , and at least people will always be on hand for her . I still can't understand why they haven't found a reason for BM not eating ...its certainly a puzzle , and I don't know why they think she'll manage a barium swallow if she's having difficulty in swallowing anyway So glad you have J & J for support , and I'd certainly ask if they would go with you to discuss what happens now as you really are too upset to take anything in properly my darling So wish I could do more Dee Dee , but if you feel BM would be better off at home , don't let them bully you into accepting a nursing home as the only solution

Deedee, I'm so sorry that BM is not doing well. I hope you find a close home for her to stay in, if bringing her home is not an option. I'm glad that you have kin that are able to help you, and like NN says, having others there to hear all this info will be helpful. Please keep us posted as often as you can....

Dee Dee , I do hope BM is feeling a bit better , please come in and let us know how she's doing darlin My GP is an arse , and I've realised why I tended to see every other doc in the practice rather than him Can't remember if I told you he ordered more blood tests and an ECG when I saw him on Monday the 9th and said he'd call with the resuts on Friday ? Anyway , I called the surgery when the call failed to materialise to be told ( by the receptionist !) that the first two tests were normal (ECG and blood count ) but that they were waiting for the thyroid one to come back ...which makes me think that the one he took that apparently came back within 24 hours as normal was either a miracle or he didn't actually send it Called the surgery again the following Wed and it had just come back , and wait for it ....the receptionist said 'it's fairly normal , come back in 6 months for another test' !! I thought 'Fuck that ' and made an appt. for last Thursday ...dumbass GP still decides to ignore consultants letter ...don't think he even read it as he was scrambling to find the test results on his puter as I was speaking , and , wait for it ...said ' Millions , or at least thousands of folks walk around with higher or lower levels and it doesn't affect them ! And ...having said in one breath that the ECG was normal , he then muttered that maybe the left ventricle function was a bit abnormal , and that if the palpitations didn't get better he might have to organise a 24 hour ECG , in the meantime make an appt for another blood test in April ! Once I've got over the outrage , I'm going to make an appointment with the senior partner cos I've had enough !

Yeah, go over his head NN. He'll wish he'd been more concerned and respectful once you've shown him what you're made of. Shouldn't have to be like this though, should it

and an unbalanced thyroid is such a tricky thing - throwing out all kinds of symptoms.. hope you get to see the senior doc soon.. or can you go back to Dr Dreamy for another follow up .. might be worth the money or a phone call

A wee update I was told a wee while ago that I do have Kidney stones on my left side, but that they basically aren't worth bothering about and are leaving them be!! I've since had a 'Fasting glucose test' as my glucose levels were abnormal, the test came back okay, but I've to have it done every year now Meanwhile the pain, tinglies and lack of sleep was getting worse, also my walking wasn't up to par and getting slower and slower, occasionally having to use a cane. The doc just told me to try and keep active and keep taking co-codomal for pain relief. Anyhoo D was getting more and more p'eed off and took me to the surgery on Monday and we saw another doctor, who examined me and my movement, she said she is starting with a 'clean slate' so more blood work and then back to see her for results and a proper examination, in the meantime she put me on Naproxen and a higher dose of pain relief ;D ;D She appeared surprised when she learnt I hadn't been on any anti-inflammatories (sp), so here's hoping they help
