Without a Trace gets Spiked Actor James Marsters, best known for playing ruthless vampire Spike in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, has traded in his platinum hair and long leather coat for a role on Without a Trace.
In a post on his official website, Marsters confirmed that he's landed a recurring role in the missing persons drama as Detective Mars, a character described as "bright" and "charming" with a "full-of-life personality".
Mars, a police detective, encounters the FBI team lead by Jack Malone (Anthony Lapaglia) while investigating a human trafficking ring. Eventually, Mars will become part of a task force that investigates people smuggling.
US network CBS is yet to reveal when Marsters will first appear in Without a Trace, or exactly how many episodes he will guest-star in.
Marsters first appeared as Spike in Buffy's second season, and went on to become one of the cult drama's main characters, later transferring to the spin-off series Angel. Since Angel wrapped up in 2004 Marsters has had a variety of small film and television parts, most notably as Professor Milton Fine in Smallville. yourtv

James "Spike" Marsters to be on right side of law on "Without a Trace"
Been missing James Marsters? Me, too. The actor who brought Spike so vividly to life on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Angel" will have a recurring role on CBS' "Without a Trace." (He is shown in younger, blonder days with "Buffy" star Sarah Michelle Gellar.)
You can learn more at his Web site, jamesmarsters.com. He will play a police detective investigating human trafficking. So it sounds as if Marsters' days as a bad-boy heartthrob are behind him. Well, we all have to grow up, don't we?
But it will be wonderful to see him back in a regular role on a series. He will give viewers another reason to stay up late Thursdays: "Without a Trace" is returning to its old 10 p.m. slot on that night. The new season begins Sept. 27.

Ooh, controversial last paragraph! Buffy's Spike Joins Without a Trace
James Marsters, best known as the Billy Idol-ish vampire Spike on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel, is trading in his trademark trench coat for a detective badge on the hit drama Without a Trace, reports Zap2it.
Marsters will play a police officer who joins up with the FBI missing persons squad while looking into a human trafficking ring. The role is a recurring one, with the possibility of a story arc spanning several episodes.
If they really want to up the mystery factor, they should have him be the father of Poppy Montgomery's baby, despite the fact that she's never met him before. Dun, dun, DUN.
Of course, without the bleached hair or the cockney accent, Marsters is exponentially less hot than he was as a vampire. Sure, as a detective, he'll probably still beat people up, but if he's not going to sink his sexy fangs into their necks, what's the point?

Whats the point??? The point is, he's a damn fine actor and doesn't need make-up and props to prove it !!! Me thinks the writer obviously hasn't seen him in anything else, stupid git

Question: I heard that Without a Trace has no intention of hiding Poppy's pregnancy. True or false?— Jocelyn
Ausiello: True. Now the only question is, who's the baby's dada? Matt Mitovich had an interesting theory: What if the mystery man Sam slept with last season turns out to be James Marsters' Det. Mars, and he's the proud papa? Hmmm…. Interesting thought

The dose.ca person already beat Ausiello to that thought (see a few posts up). I think they are both being very silly

Don't apologise to me. The WAT team can, though, if they dare to come up with this contrivance.

Not too keen on the idea then would you like her to get back with Jack? I like Sams character but Danny is the only person in the dept, she hasn't slept with

I do like Jack and Sam together, yes (and he will be free from that other woman, I gather).
But my main problem is Det Mars is a newbie so unless they have him and Sam meeting somewhere in flashback (oh dear) and then he pops up (!) on the show, or they have a very quick 'relationship' and she takes a pregnancy test pronto, it's not feasible. The latter could raise some interesting tensions amongst the team, I guess...

That'll be good I couldn't take to her, and for some weird reason I always felt she was way too old for Jack even though they were actually of a similar age

CBS moved its long-running hit series Without a Trace from Thursday to Sunday last year, and while the show continued to do well, the network has reconsidered and has shifted the show back to its old home for the new season, including summer reruns to get viewers retrained. To give the show more oomph, it has added James Marsters, best known for his brilliant, blistering portrayal of Spike on both Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Angel, in a recurring role as a detective aiding the crew in breaking up a human-trafficking ring. While it may take a bit to get used to him talking without the British accent (it was fake), he is a passionate performer with an incredibly loyal following, so it's a smart move that will draw new viewers to an already-successful series.

BostonNowIllustrated with a very yellow-haired pic Nice words, though, so maybe they should be forgiven for not noticing his other appearances where he sports his own accent
