That's a darned rotten shame, the guy pulling out! I'm glad he's still going through with it, but it must be so gutting.

It's just the way that business is...my brother lost out on a directing job recently after being told it was a definite go ....James knows , as does Pat, that circumstances change so often ,that they just have to keep putting themselves out there and wait for the breaks. It's a business where you have to learn not to take rejection too personally. What concerns me is JM's management thinking he's too good for guest appearances ....yes...we KNOW he is, but TPTB in Hollyweird don't know....Buffy and Angel were not major shows in the U.S, and maybe appearing on a more mainstream show for one of the major companies would raise James' profile ....just my 2 pennorths worth

I actually DON'T think he is too good for guest appearances, if the show happens to be good enough. Great way to get noticed.
But this is a discussion for maybe the fantasy role thread, not Macbeth.

At Houston, someone asked James in the Q&A about the status of his Macbeth project. Even with the benefit of being able to pause and replay, I didn't get every last word down, but did for the most part. His response: That is going well. But as I'm learning with big projects, unless you have somebody in a big studio that says 'Green light', to get to that Green Light word, that phrase, that beautiful phrase, it's years in the making.
So it's rolling along but it will be years before you see it. But that's as true with almost every film.
[questioner says but it IS rolling along]
Yeah, oh yeah. I'm taking a meeting with a, uh, film production, uh, in England when I go. Yeah, yeah. But that doesn't mean that it's gonna go tomorrow. That could be a great meeting and nothing happens.
[then some stuff about how you read interviews with directors, asking what their next project will be and they are saying NO, I just worked on this one for seven years!]
But I love working on it. I don't mind it taking seven years; I'll be sad when it's done. I for one was glad to hear it's still rolling and that he loves the process.

I'm REALLY glad he's going ahead with it, and I'll look forward to seeing it when it's finished. I love Macbeth - it's one of my favourite plays - and to see James in it would be just amazing. Go James!
