After his hints at DragonCon, it looks like it's confirmed now. James is back, and looks like Brainiac is too So thought we better have a new thread for it. Exclusive! James Marsters Returning to Smallville Categories: smallville Just a little giddy good news to help ring in the new season of Smallville, which starts tomorrow night.
Reliable insiders tell me—and the CW confirms—that James Marsters (swoon, Buffy's Spike) is returning for four episodes of the superseries during the new season.
We last saw Marsters's character, Dr. Milton Fine (aka Brainiac), in Smallville's fifth season finale.
While it's unclear exactly how James is returning, I can tell you he's reprising the exact same character, he's returning to set very soon and his episodes begin airing in January. Watch With KristinHe's gonna be all over the screen - small and big ones - in January, isn't he?!

As hinted on Rumorville a few weeks ago... E! Online's Watch With Kristin has revealed some news that we've been wanting for a while - that James Marsters will be returning to Smallville!
Professor Fine was last seen in Season 5's finale, "Vessel."
James returns for a 4-episode arc that is scheduled to begin in January. Keep an eye on the KryptonSite Spoilers Page for updates as they become available.

JAMES MARSTERS RETURNS TO 'SMALLVILLE' The 'BUFFY' actor will reprise his role as Brainiac
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
By TONY WHITT, Contributing Editor Published 9/27/2007
LOCATION: Smallville - weren't you paying attention?
THE SKINNY: Wow, that James Marsters is getting around, isn't he? Not only will he be doing a multi-episode guest spot on the BBC series TORCHWOOD -- in its second season, mind you, not the first season that's now airing on BBC America -- he's about to reprise a role he played over a year ago on another big genre series.
We last saw Marsters on SMALLVILLE in the fifth season finale, playing Dr. Milton Fine, the man who would be Brainiac. Now he's returning -- despite the way we last saw him -- in four episodes of the upcoming season. There're no other details than that, however -- guess the way he's coming back will be the real surprise. I mean, honestly, when did you ever know a villain on a genre series to die and stay dead?

Question: It's been forever since you gave us some scoop about Smallville. Got anything? Please? Pretty please? — Angie
Ausiello: I can confirm that Jane Seymour is returning for the final pre-strike episode (No. 15), which probably won't air until February. It's safe to say she'll appear in a flashback since Lana stabbed her to death in Season 4. I think it's also safe to say said flashback will finally reveal both why her character was such a raging bitch and what connection she has to a certain Smallville villain (cough, Brainiac, cough). Ask AusielloHuh?! A connection to Brainiac?!

Show Return Updates: Smallville
James Marsters returns as Milton Fine, alias Brainiac, in "Persona," the next new episode of Smallville. © Michael Courtney/The CWNew episodes of Smallville return Thursday, Jan. 31 on The CW.
In "Persona," the first new episode since "Gemini" was aired in mid-December, we return to Bizarro's efforts to take over Clark's life; he also learns from an unsuspecting Lana about the return of Brainiac (James Marsters). Meanwhile Lionel finds out Grant (Michael Cassidy) is a clone of Lex's dead brother, Julian.
Marsters's return overshadows the other "name" guest star for the episode, Mark McClure, who was Jimmy Olsen in Superman and its immediate sequels (not to mention – for any reason – Supergirl). Interestingly enough, IMDb prefers Back to the Future as McClure's career highlight (he was Marty's brother Dave – remember?), but he doesn't get very many lines in either franchise. Will McClure have a cute scene with Aaron Ashmore, who plays Smallville's version of Jimmy? I don't think Smallville is the type of show to pass that up.
So with Helen Slater, Mark McClure, and Dean Cain already shoehorned into this season, I'm wondering who's left for the Past Superman Cameo Sweepstakes. Teri Hatcher? Not likely. Jack Larson (Jimmy from George Reeves's Adventures of Superman) showed up in Superman Returns and Lois & Clark, so that's been done. Personally, I'm rooting for Ned Beatty (Otis from Superman and Superman II), a good actor who'd have fun interacting with, and running rings around, this cast.
The revival of Milton Fine not enough for you? Check out the episode after that, "Siren," which sees the debut of yet another DC comics hero, the leather-clad martial arts vixen Black Canary (Alaina Huffman, Maureen from Painkiller Jane), and the return of Justice League boss Oliver Queen, alias Green Arrow (season 6 regular Justin Hartley).
There are supposed to be six episodes left of the fifteen produced for this season, according to Guide, so this should be only the beginning, though we don't know yet how the new episodes will be spaced out over the next few months. Saturday January 19, 2008About.com
